You’re Invited to the Ends of the Earth [Bar] as We Preview Fox’s Hot New Series THE FINDER

January 9, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

The minute you enter the world of THE FINDER, you recognize right away that the world you know has shifted slightly.  Things are a little different in the series that sprung from Fox’s other hit series BONES.  For one, it feels so much more relaxed.  But that is the illusion that they want you to have.  For lurking beneath the surface is a murky world where the characters finds themselves in the most unusual of cases.

THE FINDER is not all about death and homicide.  Their mission is to simply find the impossible.  Things lost over time.  An elusive place tucked away in a memory that you want to revisit. Or perhaps a person who has slipped off the grid.  Beautifully back-dropped by the lush flora of the Florida Keys, the heroes we meet gather literally at The Ends of the Earth – which is slightly rundown bar hiding out in the midst of God’s land.  This is where the lost come to be found and where everyone comes to find something they have lost.  [Read more…]

We Shine the Spotlight on CASTLE Star Seamus Dever

January 9, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

In the ABC drama series CASTLE, Seamus Dever portrays Detective Kevin Ryan, a role which has become more complex as the show explores the inner psyche of who Detective Ryan is beneath his loveable, funny-guy exterior.  CASTLE is a cop show that embraces comedy and levity in the most absurd investigations, but which will also delve into the darker side of murder, cop killers, and sociopaths.  Sliding seemingly effortless between the agile comedy and finely-tuned drama, Seamus is a chameleon on screen.  In an exclusive interview, Seamus shared what drives Ryan and the relationships he prizes above everything else. We Preview the Magnificent 2nd Season Premiere of DOWNTON ABBEY

January 8, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

The first season of DOWNTON ABBEY invited viewers back to the Edwardian times at an aristocrat estate in England just as the Titanic sank in 1912.  The subsequent story followed the ripple-effects of the loss of the estate’s current heir and the rise of an unknown succeeding heir – as lineage and the question of “who would inherit” were absolutely vital.

When a young barrister, Matthew Crawley, was discovered to be the next in line to inherit the vast estate of Downton Abbey, the current occupants, the Earl and Countess of Grantham as well as the rest of the Crawley family, were surprised and unsure how to welcome their newly discovered cousin.  Because the Earl and his wife had only daughters and no sons, it was thought that the estate’s heir should marry their eldest daughter to keep the estate in the family.  [Read more…]

January 8, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

In the fantasy world of ONCE UPON A TIME, Lana Parrilla is queen — truly as she portrays both the Evil Queen and her real-world counter part Regina in Storybrooke, Maine — the fictional world the Evil Queen created in order to imprison all the inhabitants of the fairytale world in order to make her dreams come true.  Storybrooke and Regina’s life as Mayor there is supposed to represent the Evil Queen’s dream of “happily ever after.”  Yet that “happily ever after” is now threatened by the arrival of Emma Swan, whose very presence is causing tiny fractures in the blissful utopia that the Evil Queen wished for.  In a recent exclusive interview, Lana Parrilla shared her view on Regina’s crumbling world and what Regina is really seeking out of her carefully-constructed life. Witches and Warlocks and Wizards Oh My! We Preview MERLIN’s Magical Fourth Season Return

January 6, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Fans of the fantasy series MERLIN have had a long wait since the dramatic finale of the 3rd season last year.  But the long hiatus is finally over and it was worth the wait.  Returning with its 4th season, things start off with a bang – or rather a nasty tear between our world and the netherworld and creepy crawlies soon swarm over Camelot.  One icy touch and a person is not simply frozen in fear – they are literally frozen to death.  Unleashed by Morgana and her evil sister Morgause, the Derocha are not simply ghosts in the night. They are supernatural creatures that will steal your soul, the very breath from your body, and worse yet – Merlin’s magic is impotent against them.

It is the moment that every wizard fears, when you look into the face of your enemy completely helpless to defend yourself against them.  Until this point, Merlin has been able to stand steadfast in the knowledge that he can always use his magic to protect himself and everyone he cares about.  But once that is stripped away, all you have is a man forced to use his wits to defeat a seemingly invincible enemy.

You can just hear the laughter as Morgana and Morgause watch with unbridled glee.   The Derocha are doing all their dirty work for them and Camelot will swiftly fall if they are not defeated.  In a desperate, last minute attempt to save the kingdom and all of them from a chilling death, Arthur, Merlin and the Knights of Camelot journey to repair the torn veil between the worlds before it is too late. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: Where We Left Off and the Burning Questions We Are Dying to Have Answered in the New Year

January 5, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

When last seen before the 3rd season mid-season break, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES left us hanging with a dramatic take-down, a clever chess-maneuver, and another breath-taking cliffhanger to tie fans over until the return in the New Year.  Fortunately, we have reached 2012 with our hearts still beating and our minds still burning with questions.

Stefan
Where we last saw him: Taunting Klaus with the fact that he has stole Klaus’ entire family from him and taking off with Katherine for parts unknown.  Stefan may have begrudgingly saved Damon’s life, but breaking Elena’s heart may be unforgivable.  Stefan chose to not turn back on his emotions and reclaim his life with Elena, and instead ran off with his ex-girlfriend.  Ouch!

Questions to be answered: Exactly why is Stefan choosing to team up with Katherine and leave Mystic Falls? Is he playing a martyr to draw Klaus away from everyone he loves, or does he just want to dish out some well-deserved payback on Klaus?  Plus, has Stefan really disconnect and a managed to keep his human emotions turned off?  And will there be more friction between Stefan and Damon since they both tried to outsmart each other in taking down Klaus?  Finally, will the old rivalry for Elena’s affections arise now that Stefan is free of Klaus, or is Stefan going to be looking for a new ladylove?  [Read more…]

The Top 10 Television Shows of 2011 (A Second Opinion)

December 29, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 12 Comments

With the vast array of astoundingly good TV shows currently airing across the television landscape, it is incredibly hard to point a mere Top 10.   In an effort to single out what I thought reached the Top 10 for 2011, the following are 10 shows that excelled in writing, casting, characters, cinematography, direction, production and publicity.  Interestingly, 4 out of 10 of the shows are British TV shows, which just goes to show that America cannot claim exclusively to be the “best of the best.”

DOCTOR WHO
First and foremost, DOCTOR WHO takes the top crown.  No matter what other critics say, it is a remarkable achievement for any TV show to continue to enthral viewers after 48 years – of which it aired over 33 televised seasons in more than 50 countries around the globe.  The genius in recasting the lead character every couple of years adds to the renewed interest in fans and the writers in creating new stories; but, by far, the current broadcast run under the helm of Steven Moffat and showcasing the enumerable talents of Matt Smith has been nothing short of extraordinary.  I am not alone in this belief, as DOCTOR WHO has secured a number of BAFTA nominations in recent years – including a recent nomination for Best Actor, and winning in prior years for Best Drama and Best Writing.  This past year has been perhaps one of the most shocking, surprising and delightful seasons ever as it began the season with the death of The Doctor and ended with his wedding.   The cleverly cast ensemble made up of Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and Alex Kingston has infused the series with life and energy and created an addictiveness that crosses demographics like no other show ever – children, parents and grandparents are tuning in and living for just a few more moments with the infamous Doctor.  Any show that can achieve all that deserves to be number one on the year-end Top 10 list! We Preview the DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special: The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe

December 22, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 1 Comment

Every since the return of DOCTOR WHO in 2005, we have been given a bright, gaily wrapped Christmas present in the form of a special DOCTOR WHO episode celebrating the holiday season.  In 2005, there was “The Christmas Invasion”; in 2006, there was “The Runaway Bride”; in 2007, there was “Voyage of the Damned”; in 2008, there was “The Next Doctor”; in 2009 there was “The End of Time”; in 2010, there was “A Christmas Carol” and this year, it is “The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe.”

Just like last year’s whimsical look at the meaning of Christmas in “A Christmas Carol,” this year’s episode is another chance to travel back into our childhoods and revisit a time when life was simpler, more colorful and full of magic.  [Read more…]
