An AMERICAN IDOL Baby
Proving once again, Americans will do almost anything for their fifteen minutes of fame. A nine-months-pregnant Antoria Gillon arrived at Texas Stadium with hopes of becoming the next American Idol.
However, as the time of her audition approached, she realized she was in labor. Determined not to miss her shot, Gillon sang her best while in the midst of contractions. After completing the audition and learning she will return for the next round, Gillon was taken to a local hospital, where she gave birth to a healthy son – whom she named Simon Randy Ryan Jamil Labarron Idol McCowan. Baby Idol arrived early Tuesday morning and weighed 6 lbs. 7oz.

Wednesday’s TV Headlines: Kristen Bell, Saving Grace, Gay TV
Rumour’s are running rampant that Veronica Mars herself Kristen Bell may be joining the cast of LOST this upcoming season. Great news, yes — but while we’re dreaming of things, I’d like EVERWOOD to return, a 90210 reunion movie and for TBS to give me back the half hour of my life that I spent enduring THE BILL ENGVALL show.
TNT announced today that SAVING GRACE has received a network order for an additional 15 episodes. Which would be exciting news, assuming I didn’t already have my plate full with four other strong yet incredibly flawed woman courtesy of DAMAGES, THE CLOSER, WEEDS, MY BOYS… well you get the idea.
According to a new study released by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, TV isn’t gay enough. Evidently GLAAD doesn’t get BRAVO. Jokes aside, this TV Addict thinks television’s come a long way over the last ten years and rather than attack the big networks, perhaps GLAAD should take the time to applaud them. After-all, WILL & GRACE, BROTHERS & SISTERS & UGLY BETTY are three examples of shows that would never have made it to air twenty years ago.
The TV Addict is Bitter…
Why you ask? Well I’ll tell you. First off, Canada doesn’t get the F/X Network. As a result, I have no idea what happened on last night’s episode of DAMAGES. Thankfully the show is available on iTunes, so I’ll be able to catch up. But even so, watching the show on my iMac simply isn’t the same as watching it on my beautiful 37″ Sharp Aquos.
Which bring me to ‘why I’m bitter’ reason #2. I have TV envy. My brother just picked up a gorgeous 42″ Panasonic Viera TV for a mere $1599. Less than a year ago I paid $1999 for my measly 37″ TV. Damn you technology, why can’t you ever stay the same!
And finally, reason #3 ‘why I’m bitter’. I recently discovered that Showcase, the Canadian network that owns the rights to WEEDS will not be airing the third season alongside our friends to the south. Turns out fellow Canadians will have to wait until Fall ’07 to enjoy the third season antics of Mary-Louise Parker and Co. As of this moment, Showcase has yet to respond to the TV Addict’s request to be interviewed. But rest assured, if they ever decide to answer my questions with regards to why yet again Cananadian TV viewers are an afterthought, I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
DEGRASSI Student Transfers to Broadway
On again off again DEGRASSI bad boy Sean Cameron is about to end up in the last place fans would have ever expected — Broadway.
The TV Addict is thrilled to report first that actor Daniel Clark will soon be trading in his signature wife-beater for threads more befitting an 1890’s German high school student. Word is that Clark is set to make his Broadway debut in the Tony Award winning musical SPRING AWAKENING come January 2008.
While SPRING AWAKENING will mark Clark’s Broadway debut, fans may be surprised to learn that it will not be his first musical experience. Clark started his career as ‘Chip’ in Toronto’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
Don’t believe that DEGRASSI’S most notable juvenile deliquent started his career off as a singing tea cup. Check back tomorrow for some photographic evidence.
Tuesday’s TV News Round Up
ET Online is reporting that Mandy Moore has signed on to guest star as Ted’s first post-Robin girlfriend on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. Or as co-creator Carter Bays puts it, “the ultimate bad decision.” First, Robin Sparkles, now Mandy Moore — who knew ‘guy-next-door’ architect Ted Mosby had it in him. Or as Barney might put it, “High Five!”
The TV Zone is reporting that JERICHO is getting ready to hold a fan convention in Oakley Kansas on September 14-16. First an OFFICE convention in Stanford, now a JERICHO convention in Oakley Kansas. Great, two cities I couldn’t find without the help of Google Maps. Forget Oakley and Sanford, call me when LOST has a convention in Hawaii. There’s a convention I’d sell my TiVo to attend.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, CBS has signed a deal to make an American version of the BBC hit THE WORST WEEK OF MY LIFE. Or as Lindsay Lohan calls it, last week.
You’re Invited to a Sneak Peek of PUSHING DAISIES
If ABC’s brilliant new show PUSHING DAISIES doesn’t catch on, it most definitely won’t be due to lack of effort on behalf of the alphabet marketing department.
In the hopes of ensuring everyone gets an early taste of the pie maker (believe me, it will make sense when you see the premiere), ABC is inviting you (yes, you!) to a sneak peek of what will no doubt be your favorite new show of the fall. Here are the details:
WHEN: On Thursday, August 16, at 8:00 p.m. PT, the public will get an opportunity to screen the premiere episode of the highly anticipated new drama PUSHING DAISIES. Available cast and executive producers will be on hand to introduce the screening, and there will be a limited number of special treats at the conclusion of the event for attendees.
WHERE: Hollywood Forever Cemetery 6000 Santa Monica Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90038
If you attend the screening, be sure to return to theTVaddict.com and let everyone know how much you loved the show. Because believe me, you will love it. Unless of course you hate pie, puppy dogs and/or adorable co-stars like Kristin Chenoweth, Chi McBride and the Pie Maker himself Lee Pace. And let’s face it — if that’s the case, we don’t want you hanging around theTVaddict.com anyways! Enjoy the show.

TheTVaddict.com Interview: FLASH GORDON’S Karen Cliche
By: Amrie Cunningham (My Take on TV)
The summer of interviews continued this week as I got some time to chat with the disarmingly beautiful and incredibly down to earth Karen Cliche (pronounced CLEESH), who plays Baylin on Sci-Fi’s newest action adventure series, FLASH GORDON. She had so much great stuff to say about her cast, her character, her support for women’s issues, and her love for a certain classic TV show.
Amrie: Hey Karen – we’re so excited about the premiere of Flash Gordon!
Karen: There’s a lot of excitement buzzing. It’s so cool.
What about Flash Gordon made you want about to be a part of it? Had you seen a script?
Actually I knew nothing about it. I had heard about it through the years, but I didn’t know much about Flash Gordon in general. I wasn’t a huge fan but then my agent brought it up. I knew one of the head writers, James Thorpe, who had written on a couple of the series I had done. He had put in a good word for me so when the role came out, when I auditioned, I just loved it…a lot of the roles I’ve played, I’ve played a man, I’ve played a mutant, I’ve played a vampire….when the opportunity came to play the alien, the physicality to her, she was a tough girl, strong woman. That’s just ideal for me. I really wanted to play her. I thought, what a challenge to play an alien bounty hunter from Mongo. Who gets the opportunity to play this? I was very excited about it.
What does the viewer need to know about Baylin going in?
In the pilot, I come in the last 10-15 minutes. You’re introduced to Baylin in a very in your face, strong kind of way. She comes to Earth on an assignment from Ming to get Aura back to Mongo. She doesn’t care about Earth. She ends up stuck on Earth and befriends Flash and becomes part of their team and so she’s just a really strong independent, unapologetically strong woman. It’s how she is, not because it’s a put on or she tries to be. It’s just because that’s the way that she is. Her parents died when she was very young. She’s been on her own for a long time. She’s been self sufficient her whole life. When she is confident and strong and independent, she’s not trying to be. That’s the way she’s known how to survive all her live. When you’re introduced to Baylin, it’s like a kick ass tough girl and then throughout the episode, you get to feel a little more about her. She sort of has a sense of humor, I think. Maybe she’s funny because of her mannerisms. She doesn’t really know how to be politically correct. You learn more about her throughout. We just shot an episode, 8 or 9, you really find out what it is that happened to her in her life. I think people will really appreciate finding that out about her and it will give her a whole other level. She doesn’t breakdown. It doesn’t destroy her. You just understand her a little bit more. It just makes you love her even more. People are going to love her because she’s just this strong kick ass woman, but then once you learn a little more about her life story, it adds a whole other element to her.
