Archives for December 2008
Tonight’s TV Addictions: December 11, 2008
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE OFFICE (9PM NBC, Global in Canada)
Will tonight’s holiday themed episode of THE OFFICE live up to Dunder Mifflin’s tradition of ridiculously funny holiday themed episodes? With Meredith’s hair catching on fire and Dwight cornering the market on the hottest Christmas toy. We’re going to go out on a limb and say yes.
30 ROCK (9:30PM NBC, CityTV in Canada)
In what will surely come as no surprise to anyone who has tuned into 30 ROCK this season, tonight’s episode features another Special Guest Star. This time, Elaine Stritch returns to drive her son Jack crazy.
NEW & NOTABLE:
THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (8PM AMC)
Yeah, yeah, Keanu Reeves has a remake out, and I’m sure it’ll have all kindsa cool special effects. But you know what? I’m willing to bet it won’t be better than the 1951 classic.
KATH & KIM (8:30PM NBC, E! in Canada)
As Kath and Phil throw a party to meet new “couple friends.” Something tells us that’s gonna be misinterpreted. If you’re not watching Molly Shannon and Selma Blair as the best mother/daughter team since Joan and Christina Crawford, shame on you!
CSI (9PM CBS, CTV in Canada)
Gil Grissom bidding adieu to the CSI mother-ship after nine season would probably mean more to us had we seen more than one episode of CSI.
PLANET IN PERIL: BATTLE LINES (9PM CNN and CNNHD)
It’s going to be a very special episode of THE TV ADDICT IN PERIL, if I fail to remind readers that Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta investigate serious environmental conflicts, including mass hunger in Cameroon and Congo on tonight’s installment of PLANET IN PERIL: BATTLE LINES.
THETVADDICT.COM READER PICK (via Twitter):
SyFyMichael: Survivor, of course (8PM CBS, Global in Canada). A dozen half-naked, scheming people who haven’t showered for a month living on an island. Can’t beat that.

TV Talkback: Golden Globe Nominations
Couch Tater: Oh, that wacky Foreign Press Corps members! Unlike their Emmy-nominating brethren, the Golden Globe nominators actually seem to occasionally look beyond the perenial favorites and recognize good work being done on shows other than, say, THE OFFICE. Sure, I’ve never even heard of some of the nominated things… I mean, seriously, what the hell is CRANFORD? But they showed a little love to my beloved TRUE BLOOD (which scored nods for both Anna Panquin as Best Actress and the series as Best Drama), so I have to return the favor and give ’em back at least a little affection. That said, as always, my love comes with a caveat. In this case: What, you couldn’t give BLOOD’s Lois Smith a nod for her portrayal of Sookie’s grandma?
The TV Addict: Look beyond their perennial favorites, are you kidding me? HOUSE, Sally Field, ENTOURAGE, America Ferrera, and worst of all Tony Shalhoub for what sure seems like his 75 nomination! Sadly, the Golden Globes are as predictable as ever. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled for many of the nominees (30 ROCK, DEXTER, MAD MEN etc…) But if the Hollywood Foreign Press really wanted to recognize True… err, I mean new blood, we’d see nominations for BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, DAMAGES, LOST and Julia Louis Dreyfus.
Question of the Day: Sex!!!
Now that we’ve got your attention, who is more desperate for it? Former FRIEND Jennifer Aniston, who has decided to sell her family friendly holiday movie MARLEY & ME by posing practically nude on the cover of GQ. Or the SCI FI network, who, in hyping up the final season of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA have decided to highlight two of Starbuck’s best.. err… assets over critical acclaim, legions of fans and a prestigious Peabody Award.

MARS Star’s New Gig!
Wanna see LIFE ON MARS’ Jason O’Mara (Sam) in a whole new light? Be sure to check out the premiere of TNT’s new show, TRUST ME, on Monday, January 26, at 10 p.m. ET, where you’ll be able to watch the actor pitch a fit — not to mention a DVD — as mad ad man Stu Hoffman. The series — starring Eric McCormack (WILL & GRACE) and Tom Cavanaugh (ED) as modern advertising execs — is a fast-paced, work-place dramedy (more edy than dra) which plays like a more-grounded NIP/TUCK. This isn’t entirely surprising, seeing as it comes from the medical drama’s production team. As for Mara’s gig on TRUST ME — formerly titled TRUTH IN ADVERTISING — expect it to be short-lived, meaning it won’t interfere with LIFE ON MARS in the least.
Tonight’s TV Addictions: December 10, 2008
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE (8PM CBS)
Special guest star Megan Mullally drops by to inform Christine and Barb that they may lose their gym franchise while at the same time reminding viewers how much we miss WILL & GRACE.
GARY UNMARRIED (8:30PM CBS)
Gary wants to have “firsts” with his kids. Hilarity no doubt ensues.
PRIVATE PRACTICE (8PM ABC, “A” in Canada)
Charlotte opens her own private practice, fingers crossed it’s more entertaining than Addisons.
NEW & NOTABLE:
TOP CHEF (10PM Bravo)
Holy bridezilla! Tonight’s challenge finds our culinary cut-ups preparing a bridal shower feast for — gulp! — judge Gail Simmons! Wonder if anyone will be brave enough to make something in the form of a penis?
WHITNEY: FROM THE HILLS TO THE CITY (10PM MTV)
We don’t have a clue who Whitney is, but apparently, she’s about to move from L.A. to New York City, where she’ll no doubt continue to enjoy the kind of faux life that Lauren, Heidi, Spencer and the rest of the HILLS gang has become famous for. But before the launch of her oh-so-cleverly (not) titled THE CITY, she’ll spend this hour dragging us through memories of her fantabulous (not) L.A. life!
THETVADDICT.COM READER PICK (via Twitter):
Kaitlin862: Going with LIFE today (9PM NBC). I’ve really been digging it since the moved to Wed. Quicky, Funny, but a great prodecure. Love it.

Today’s Pet Peeve
From BradInToronto (via Twitter): CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS on ABC instead of CBS. It’s just not the same without the “CBS Special Presentation” freaky spot to start.

Don’t Shoot the Messenger, Re: T.R. Knight
From: A TV Addict Reader

Subject: What’s T.R. Knight Smoking… Re: Korbi’s Scoop
Message Body: Who the frak does T.R. Knight think he is — David Caruso! Mark my words, there is absolutely no film career in T.R.’s future should he exit Seattle Grace and in ten years, after realizing that the grass is not always greener, he’ll resurface on yet another run-of-the-mill CBS procedural. Trust me.
