Meet Amber Riley: Proof Positive that an AMERICAN IDOL Rejection is Not the End of the World as You Know It!
Chin up Allison. American voting you off IDOL isn’t the end, rather the beginning of what will no doubt, amount to a remarkable journey.
Don’t believe us, just ask Amber Riley; Who parlayed her very own rejection from IDOL into a starring role in FOX’s highly anticipated new musical/comedy hybrid GLEE.
Tonight’s TV Addictions: May 7, 2009
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
UGLY BETTY (8PM ABC, City in Canada)
The Karate Kid turns to Hilda for help in his run for office, while a member of the Meade dynasty is kidnapped even as Mode’s fate hangs in the balance.
PARKS AND RECREATION (8:30PM NBC, 9PM City in Canada)
Leslie makes a lasting impression at a banquet honoring her mom. Not a good one, mind you…
GREY’ S ANATOMY (9PM ABC, CTV in Canada)
Remember when the Chief’s niece was hospitalized before her prom back in season 2? Tonight, it’s a group of college students who wind up at Seattle Grace following a car accident that occurs on the way to their graduation ceremony. On, and there’s much, much talk of Meredith and Derek’s upcoming wedding.
THE OFFICE (9PM NBC, Global in Canada)
You know, if there’s one person on this planet you’d expect not to know that disco is dead, it’s Michael Scott. Tonight, he proves that to be the case by bringing dance music to the office.
SUPERNATURAL (9PM CW)
The apocalypse is coming! The apocalypse is coming! Unfortunately, Sam’s kinda tied up, what with having to detox from demon blood and all.
Our Take on SCRUBS “My Finale”
“Endings are never easy. I always build them up so much in my head they can’t possibly live up to my expectations and I just end up disappointed. I’m not even sure why it matters to me so much how things end here.” said JD with regards to ‘endings’ on what amounted to what might be his final walk through the hallowed halls of Sacred Heart.
Unfortunately for JD and creator Bill Lawrence, (who in writing last night’s two-hour finale made his feelings on ‘endings’ abundantly clear, with Elliot also chiming in, “Don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t live up to the expectations you have in your head.”) endings are in fact a big deal and last night’s SCRUBS swan song was no exception. Particularly to this TV Addict and the four to six million loyal fans who dedicated eight years to never missing an episode.
Which is why we’re happy to report that “My Finale” delivered the goods by meeting theTVaddict.com’s patented criteria (patent pending) for a successful series finale. Criteria which include:
Win OCTOBER ROAD Season 2 on DVD
In celebration of OCTOBER ROAD being released on DVD this week, theTVaddict.com is thrilled to be able to give away a copy of the DVD to one lucky reader.
To enter to win, simply post in the comments below the answer to the following question: In the special ‘Final Chapter’ that was shot specifically for the DVD release (which by the way is a trend every short-lived show should be doing), who will be revealed to be Sam’s father? (FYI: Our fingers are crossed for Nick!)
One winner will be chosen at random and notified via email on May 14, so be sure to enter using a valid email address. Not a winner? OCTOBER ROAD Season 2 is now available on Amazon for a mere $21.99.
C.T.’s Confession: I’m A Moron!
Okay, I’m not a complete and total moron. But I have to admit that in the case of the article posted earlier this morning — regarding Jeff Probst perhaps influencing the outcome of SURVIVOR’s finale — I had a complete and total brain fart.
As several regular TV Addict reader’s were quick to point out, the votes are cast at the final Tribal Council, long before the live telecast at which the winner is announced. As a long-time SURVIVOR fan, I don’t know how the heck I could have forgotten that… but I did.
That’s why we have the best, smartest readers around: They keep us honest!
We’re Back!
We’re back! We’re back! We’re back! After an unexpected two days of downtime (courtesy of mediatemple, our hosting company that may-or-may-not be run by the real-life-equivalent of one Homer J. Simpson), theTVaddict.com is back and better than ever. Well, maybe not better than ever, but we’re back nonetheless, and thrilled to be so.
I mean seriously, while I’m the first to admit that I’m no Daniel Fienberg, 140 characters on twitter simply does not cut it. Especially when HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER tried to fool us into thinking that Stella is the show’s titular mother, 90210 attempts to create a friendship out of thin air between newcomer Liam, Navid, Ethan and Dixon (Really, what is up with that?) and SCRUBS signs off with what we’re not sure is a series, or season finale courtesy of ABC’s ambiguous marketing speak.
AMERICAN IDOL Season 8 Results: Who Went Home
Dying to know which contestant America sent home packing tonight, but not enough to actually sit through the commercial-filled, over-produced, hour-long borefest that was tonight’s AMERICAN IDOL results show? No problem, that’s what theTVaddict.com is here for!
Tonight’s TV Addictions (Twitter Style): May 4, 2009
WHAT WE’RE WATCHING:
THE BIG BANG THEORY (8PM CBS, CTV in Canada)
Says @indybyteman, “THE BIG BANG THEORY is the most consistently funny show on TV. Geek centric without being condescending. And Penny rocks.” Adds @thetvaddict: Sure, Penny’s cool and all, but what’s up with her taste in men. First Leonard, and now tonight Stuart? I think you’d agree that she can do better.”
GREEK (8PM ABC Family)
Says @laiq, “Because it’s a great show.” Adds @thetvaddict: Agreed, and tonight’s episode which may-or-may-not have Max getting down on one knee, and Rebecca taking a walk on the wild side is no exception.
GOSSIP GIRL (8PM CW)
Says @moviedo, “HEY, will watching GOSSIP GIRL ’cause I’m obsessed and because I fear Blair Waldorf will come after me if I don’t.”
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (8:30PM CBS, E! in Canada)
Says @thetelevixen, “I’ll be watching HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, because a) it’s AWE-SOME and b) I’ve heard there’s going to be a HUGE surprise tonight!” Adds @thetvaddict: “AWE-SOME.” Don’t you mean LEGEN… wait for it… DARY?
Exclusive: Creator Sean Smith Talks GREEK
On our recent trip to Los Angeles, the TV Addict was lucky enough to be given a tour of the set of GREEK by Scott Michael Foster (Cappie), Dilshad Vadsaria (Rebecca) and Sean Smith.
Now, I know what you’re thinking, “Sean, Who?”
Well, Smith may not be a household name like a Whedon or an Abrams just yet, but give him time. After-all, he’s had some pretty good on-the-job training, parlaying a writing assistant gig on EVERWOOD, to full-fledged writing assignments with SUPERNATURAL and SUMMERLAND; Culminating in a hit show of his very own — GREEK on ABC Family.
Which is what we’re here to talk about, as Smith was kind enough to not only take myself (alongside fellow bloggers Kathie, Amrie and Rae) on a tour of the set of GREEK, but answer some burning questions about what fans can expect as GREEK’s fourth chapter comes to a close.
