FALLING SKIES: What to Expect and Not Expect from this Summer Sci-Fi Series

In the past month there has been a virtual onslaught of publicity to promote TNT’s new alien-invasion series FALLING SKIES. There are billboards, bus ads, posters and a multitude of print and online advertising. For the most part, it is both extremely effective – yet it is also somewhat misleading.
It is effective because when it premieres everyone looking to see aliens will be tuning in to check out the show. However, the misleading part is that those same viewers will be looking for a kick-ass action show. Unfortunately, FALLING SKIES is not that show. It does not start with a bang and it does not offer high-octane action sequences. It offers instead, brief moments of action – such as when the aliens have cornered the survivors as they scavenge.
Viewers should be better prepared for what FALLING SKIES actually is. It is a tale of defeat and desperation. It is the after-math. We lost the war for our planet — and the survivors are refugees skulking in the darkness trying to avoid attention and desperate for food, water and shelter. [Read more…]

Almost Famous: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and KNIGHT RIDER Star Paul Campbell Reflects on the Road Not Taken

If you’re anything like this TV Addict, odds are fairly certain that you spend an inordinate amount of time scratching your head over some of the shall we say more curious decisions TV Networks make when it comes to some of your favorite shows. But what about the actors involved in the shows themselves? As one might imagine, having starred in BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, the short-lived pilot-turned-internet-phenomenon NOBODY’s WATCHING and NBC’s less-than-successful KNIGHT RIDER reboot, actor Paul Campbell has a unique perspective on such matters. One that he was only too happy to share during a recent one-on-one promoting ALMOST HEROES, a new original comedy series that recently premiered on Showcase in Canada.
As a young actor you made the decision to leave BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fairly early on for a larger role on a potential pilot that didn’t end up getting picked up. Do you ever look back at decisions like that and wonder, what could have been?
Paul Campbell: No. I found that this is the business that you can’t afford to ever look back and say what could have been. Because when you have those sort of decisions to make — decisions where I either stick with a show [BATTLESTAR GALACTICA] where there are no guarantees that this character [Billy] is ever going to be more than a sideline player or try my luck with a pilot I had just booked — there’s no value in looking back. I’m constantly faced with those decisions. Should I take this Canadian series that I’m on, should I got to Romania and shoot a movie, what am I missing, as an actor, there is always going to be that “What If?” [Read more…]

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: TV Tidbits that Really Grind Our Gears!

The Business of Show
Despite the fact that it’s called show business and not show friends for a reason, there is nothing that leaves a sour taste in our mouth more than actors talking about money. Take the Hollywood Reporter’s recent Comedy Actor Emmy Roundtable for example. Did anyone really need to hear how Ed O’Neil and Rob Lowe were aghast over HBO’s insulting offer of a paltry $40,000 for what we’re sure were six long and arduous weeks of work alongside Al Pacino and Bette Middler? We sure as heck didn’t.
Rob Lowe
If the artist formerly known as Sam Seaborn is serious about taking his career to the next level he so richly believes he deserves, announcements like yesterday’s news that has Lowe signing on to play suspected wife killer Drew Peterson in an Lifetime Movie probably isn’t the best way to go about it. Oh sure, Lowe can dress up the movie all he wants (Telling EW.com, “These movies aren’t made anymore, and in the last five years, they’re not made on television either — except in very specific places. One of ‘em is Lifetime, and they do it really, really well. So I’m glad they’re makin’ stuff like this, on Lifetime.”), but the fact of the matter is that despite Lifetime’s fairly admirable job of reversing their “Mother, Mother May I Sleep with Danger” brand with high quality shows like DROP DEAD DIVA and ARMY WIVES, at the end of the day, a movie of the week is a movie of the week. A tawdry sex fuelled, scandal filled one that quite frankly, Lowe of all people should not be encouraging. We’re just sayin. [Read more…]
An In Depth Look At… GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Shocking Showdown!
From the moment GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Lisa managed to seduce married-man Patrick, fans of the soap have been in a lather over one of the year’s most controversial storylines. “People hate Lisa,” says Soaps In Depth executive editor Richard M. Simms. “We’re not talking love-to-hate here, but hate-with-the-fiery-passion-of-a-thousand-flames,” he adds with a laugh.
Next week, Port Charles’ least-loved local loon takes things to a whole new level when she decides to confront those she believes did her wrong — remember, she is insane! — by taking them hostage and putting them on trial. “Lisa has escaped from a mental hospital, and she’s completely convinced that people in this town — especially Patrick and Robin — basically conspired to ruin her life. In her eyes, it’s everybody’s fault but her own. And while Patrick is to blame for having slept with her, something which he completely owns as being his fault, the things she’s done since have more than balanced the scales. Lisa has basically waged war on Patrick and his wife for the past six months or more.” [Read more…]
