Summer TV Preview: SUITS Season 2
“I thought it was great because there’s only so long you can do that tap dance of, you know, when is someone going to find out,” was how SUITS executive producer Gene Klein characterized the hit USA Network show’s surprising first season finale that saw friend Trevor let the proverbial cat out of the bag. Of course, one person who isn’t nearly as excited to discover that Mike Ross (Patrick Adams) isn’t the fine, upstanding, accredited lawyer Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) purported him to be is Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres). “This law firm of Pearson Hardman is her baby, her name is on the letterhead, her name is on the door,” explained Torres during a recent visit to the set of SUITS in Toronto. “It’s a direct reflection of her and she’s angry that they put the firm in jeopardy.” Fortunately, for both Mike Ross and Harvey Spector, when SUITS does return for its much-anticipated second season on Thursday July 14th at 10PM on USA Network (Mondays at 9PM on Bravo in Canada), she’ll have far bigger fish to fry in the form of partner Daniel Hardman, who returns to the firm after mysteriously disappearing five years earlier. Teased star Patrick Adams, “Hardman is a very smart, shrewd, incredible lawyer, who can, if given the opportunity, blow us all up and take over everything so Jessica is going to kind of let me stick around because she needs our help to keep the firm safe from Hardman.” In other words, fans of SUITS should buckle up for one helluva exciting season. Did NBC Make the Grade? We Hand Out its End of Season Report Card!
The Good:After a disastrous Fall that saw the viewing public summarily dismiss virtually all of the networks new offerings (RIP: PLAYBOY CLUB, PRIME SUSPECTS, FREE AGENTS), the house that Carson built came back relatively strong in the second half of the season with a little help from THE VOICE, Betty White and did we mention THE VOICE? Yes, after an almost unprecedented marketing campaign, NBC’s IDOL wannabe actually lived up to the hype ratings-wise and in doing so helped the network jump from fourth to third in the season’s final 18-49 demographic rankings. Meanwhile, on the scripted front, NBC’s low ratings continued to be a boon for the longevity of such critically acclaimed fan favorites like PARENTHOOD, PARKS AND RECREATION, 30 ROCK and COMMUNITY. Which brings us to… [Read more…]

GLEE! GAME OF THRONES! THE KILLING! TRUE BLOOD! THE WALKING DEAD! GENERAL HOSPITAL! The TV Addict Week in Rewind
Welcome To Our World: Asked what it’s like to leave SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, Will Forte said, “It’s really hard to bring yourself to watch the show.” He had more to add, but for us, that’s how it’s felt for a while.
Tackiest Move: Donald Trump announced he was considering suing a Miss Universe contestant who stated she believed the contest to be rigged. In related news happening only in our head, President Obama announced he would sue Trump for slander, libel and, if all else fails, general buffoonery.
Oddest Choice: Who decided that George Lopez would be a good host for NBC’s weirdly-addictive “dating” show, TAKE ME OUT? They were wrong… although he does sort of add to the train wreck quality of the entire show.
Consider Yourself Warned: Although new-to-the-cast Christopher Meloni is all over the ads for the about-to-debut season of TRUE BLOOD, his vampy alter ego, Roman, doesn’t actually appear in the premiere. [Read more…]

Dispatches From The Couch: How Low Will We Go?
I’m gonna need someone at The Learning Channel to help me out here. What, exactly, am I “learning” by watching two first cousins tie the knot on MY BIG FAT AMERICAN GYPSY WEDDING (“Our family believes in incest!” proudly declares the bride.) … aside from the fact that we as a society are basically doomed?
It might be one thing were this an insightful look at the beliefs of a culture, but GYPSY is nothing more than the latest freak show to parade fame-hungry people willing to degrade themselves for a little time in the spotlight in front of an audience who should hate themselves for watching this crap.
Seriously… what is wrong with us? Is it simply that watching these shows makes us feel better about ourselves? Sure, we may be out of work or overweight or, heck, crack addicts… but at least we’re not these people. [Read more…]
