JANE THE VIRGIN Chapter Twelve: Will the Real Sin Rostro Please Stand Up?
In typical JANE THE VIRGIN fashion, Chapter Twelve unravelled at rapid speed. One minute Jane’s making headway as an intern on The Passions of Santos, the next, Sin Rostro’s finally revealed. How the writers over at JANE THE VIRGIN so masterfully bring us from one plot point to another, with all of the telenovela nuts and bolts in between, I’ll never know. That’s probably why Gina Rodriguez just won a Golden Globe — a phenomenal actress clearly shines when given the right material!
But, I digress.
On the surface, it seems like Jane’s internship is going well. In fact, things are going so well that Dina wants her to write the next episode of The Passions of Santos. Unbeknownst to Jane and Rogelio, it’s his exit from the show — a plan that was hatched by his assistant Nicholas. If you recall, Nicholas is an aspiring actor, and with Rogelio out of his way he can launch his career on The Passions of Santos. Side note: this is why “trust no one” is a phrase.
Naturally, Rogelio’s devastated. Not only has he devoted his life to the show, but as he so humbly put it, he is “the star of the show.” Doesn’t it become a whole new show if they axe the title character? That’s like killing the Grey in GREY’S ANATOMY. How does that work? But, being the consummate professional that he is, Rogelio goes on to give a performance worthy of a Daytime Emmy. Jane’s so moved by his performance that she calls him dad for the first time. Pretty intense father-daughter moment here.
Petra deals with her fair share of revelations in this episode, too. For starters, Milos resurfaces. Yes, that’s right, the ex-boyfriend that she’s been running from finally tracks her down. However, their reunion doesn’t unfold how I expected it to. One of the things that he shares with her is that her wheelchair-bound mother can walk — something that we already know. After an elaborate set up, and to Petra’s surprise, she does just that. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait for another episode to find out why she’s been lying to Petra, because Petra kicked her out of the suite.
Now, for the big reveal, Sin Rostro… a.k.a Rose. While I knew that Emilio couldn’t have been the faceless drug lord, I never imagined that it would have been Rose either. Although, it probably should have been obvious due to how hard she’s been trying to convince Rafael of his father’s criminal activity. She’s slipped under everyone’s radar — even Michael and Nadine haven’t thought to look her way. However, now that she’s buried Emilio in a block of cement, I wonder if they’ll figure it out.
The best lines of the night go to Rogelio:
“You can’t have The Passions of Santos without Santos! Then it’s just Passions, and that show failed.”
“As father and daughter, we will conquer Hollywood together, much like Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie. Only we will not be estranged, and I will be the much more famous one.”

We Shine the Spotlight on SHAMELESS Newcomer Luca Oriel
Everyone’s favorite dysfunctional family is back this week with all new drama and a fresh new face. SHAMELESS welcomes Luca Oriel as Debbie’s (Emma Kennney) love interest. I caught up with the young actor about his new role, his character, Derek, and what we can look forward to this week on the show.
Are there any scenes you are excited for the fans to see this season that feature Debbie and Derek?
There are quite a few scenes I’m excited for the fans to see, but I can’t really speak about them so you’ll have to stay tuned to see how Debbie and Derek’s relationship develops!
What can you tell us about this week’s episode?
My character Derek is introduced in this week’s episode. Debbie and Derek meet for the first time and let’s just say he kind of saves the day for her.
Aside from SHAMELESS what shows are you loving on TV right now?
I’m a big fan of RAY DONOVAN, another show with a crazy messed up family dynamic. I love Jon Voight as Mickey; he’s a horrible father and human being, yet he’s so charming and smooth. Right now, I’m anxiously waiting for Season 3 of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK and I can never pass up IMPRACTICAL JOKERS.
You can watch Luca on SHAMELESS Sundays at 9:00 EST on Showtime.
