THE FLASH Season 3 Premiere Recap: An Open Letter to Barry Allen
See, Barry? Actions have consequences.
Traveling in time and changing a crucial point in one’s life has catastrophic consequences. Did you really expect that things would be alright after you saved your mother when she was supposed to die? Really?
Apparently you did, because you lived three blissful months with your parents. And hey, I get it. I really understand, Barry, on a personal level, what you were feeling and why you would want to change that specific moment in time; but guess what, the world does not revolve around you, kid. It really doesn’t.
So you were happy for three months. You had your family together, you were enjoying having your parents again and you even worked up the courage to ask Iris out – even though, in this timeline, your paths never really crossed. Things were awesome. Despite Eobard Thawne’s warning that changing history would have catastrophic consequences and you would – one day soon – come back crawling to him, begging him to go back in time and kill your mother again, you didn’t listen. You never listen, Barry.
Have you ever heard of the ripple effect?
Yeah. That’s what happened. You changed one thing – just one tiny little thing in the grand scheme of things – but it affected the lives of so many people.
The West family, for instance. Iris doesn’t talk to her dad – god knows why – and that has affected Joe on such a deep level, that he’s turned to alcohol and he is hanging onto his job by a thread. Apparently, Wally doesn’t talk to him either, so you know, things just get better and better for him.
On the other hand, Wally is a speedster and that could be pretty cool – in theory. But what really happens is that he is a completely unprepared kid with super powers, thinking he can take on the world all by himself. Getting killed was predictable, however entertaining watching how cocky he was as a kid superhero was. But he wasn’t ready, Barry, because you were supposed to be the Flash. Not him. So Iris and Joe don’t talk and Wally nearly got killed – maybe he even died, considering the state he was in when we last saw him in that timeline.
So there you go. Family destroyed. You had your happy ending, but at the cost of theirs.
Now let’s move on to Cisco. Hey, I love Cisco in whatever timeline he is. Even as a cocky, pompous jerk, he is still awesome. But look what happened, Barry. Cisco – our Cisco – became this insufferable, rich guy who values money more than people. Despite his amazing one liners (and god, I missed those!), he became a completely different person and, you know what? We probably would not like him very much in the long run. Because he was not our Cisco anymore. Not that happy-go-lucky, funny, incredibly loyal and selfless guy we all know and love.
Another life completely and irrevocably changed because you didn’t think things through before you decided to alter an entire timeline.
Caitlin was probably the least drastic change out of everyone. So she’s a pediatric eye doctor. She apparently lost all that bravery and the ability to think on her feet in a time of crisis, but hey, at least her life didn’t get completely ruined.
But it took Wally getting mortally injured by the Rival for you to finally see the extent of the mess you made. It took your memories being deleted from your mind for you to finally take action and – just like Thawne had predicted – you came crawling back to him, begging for him to kill your mom. So, see, Barry? Did it really have to get to this point?
It didn’t. It really didn’t. So Thawne went back in time with you so he could kill your mom again, and then he brought you back to the present. But it was too late. You saved Wally, but you couldn’t save Joe and Iris’ relationship. Whatever happened there, it stuck to this new timeline because, yeah, you created a third one. Way to go, Barry!
But I guess now you’re stuck with it.
This is probably just the beginning. Who knows what other changes your little trip to the past caused? Because, Barry, actions have consequences. Traveling in time can have serious repercussions.
And remember, next time? Think before you act, will you?
I hope you’ve learned your lesson.
An all new episode of THE FLASH airs next Tuesday, October 11, at 8/7c on The CW.

NCIS Sneak Peek: A Bird In The Hand
Laura San Giacomo returns as Dr. Grace Confalone, the psychiatrist last seen in May’s season finale.
Confalone’s no-nonsense approach to her patients runs into a conflict between her obligation to confidentiality and her desire to point Gibbs (Mark Harmon) down the right investigative path.
When one of her patients, a Marine sergeant, falls from a tall building, a suicide attempt is suspected, but Confalone encourages NCIS to look for a murderer instead.
On the lighter side, Fornell (recurring guest star Joe Spano) and Gibbs may be headed toward the “bromance” version of a divorce.
Gibbs, not a man who enjoys small talk, is irritated by Fornell’s housekeeping, or lack thereof. And Fornell’s need for conversation when Gibbs gets home is not endearing him to Jethro, despite the fact that Fornell makes lasagna verdi al forno for dinner.
Yes, there is a joke in there. Lasagna verdi al forno is made with spinach pasta, and Confalone has nicknamed Gibbs “Popeye.”
Meanwhile, Torres searches for a place to live, and Abby (Pauley Perrette) brings her brother’s parrot, Juan, to work. Not only does Juan show off his flying skills in the bullpen, but he says “Don’t tell Gibbs” …in front of Gibbs. Will Juan help the team solve the case?
NCIS also stars Sean Murray, Jennifer Esposito, Brian Dietzen, Emily Wickersham, Duane Henry (who will return in episode 5), Rocky Carroll and David McCallum.
Other guest stars on tonight’s episode, “Privileged Information” are Brandon Quinn, Nina Rausch, La Monde Byrd, Matthew Holmes, John Burke, Andy Wagner, Marie Oldenbourg and Richard Wharton. “Privileged Information” was written by George Schenck and Frank Cardea and directed by Edward Ornelas.
NCIS airs at 8:00 p.m. tonight on CBS in the U.S. and GlobalTV in Canada. West Coast viewers, set your DVR in case the Vice Presidential debate preceding tonight’s episode runs into overtime.
Check out the sneak peeks below and a conversation with new cast members Esposito and Valderrama and their approach to joining the show.

CONVICTION: Hayley Atwell and Mark Gordon Tease the New ABC Series
AGENT CARTER’s Hayley Atwell returns to ABC with a new series called CONVICTION.
This time around she loses the British accent to play a lawyer and former First Daughter.
“I defy anyone to watch the show who doesn’t know [Atwell’s] previous work and wonder if she’s not American,” said executive producer Mark Gordon at the Television Critics Association’s Summer Press Tour earlier this year. “She’s great. And it’s not easy because the dialogue is so fast.”
Atwell’s Hayes Morrison isn’t nearly as together as Peggy Carter was. In fact, she has mess written all over her. Her reputation needs to be fixed. And it needs to happen before she does serious damage to her mother’s Senate campaign.
At the beginning of the series, Hayes is down on her luck, but an opportunity quickly puts her on the road to potential redemption. Potential being the key word. The question becomes whether she can make the most of this new job Eddie Cahill’s New York District Attorney Connor Wallace hands her.
It’s going to require her to give up her precious time and energy. Not to mention she’ll have to dust off her empathic skills. Her mission once she accepts it: heading up Wallace’s Conviction Integrity Unit.
Atwell relished making the transition from Agent Carter to Attorney Morrison. “It feels like an easy transition when you have good material,” she said. “It was a very welcome challenge, but something that I didn’t find daunting. I was thrilled by it, really.”
The actress embodies a character that struggles with her many demons. “I think she’s a risk taker in the good of that and the bad of that, in every kind of aspect of her personality,” said Liz Friedlander, executive producer of CONVICTION. “And I think it can get her in a lot of personal trouble and then also actually make her look at things in a very unconventional kind of renegade way in her work.”

“And she’s fairly fearless, which makes her the perfect person for this job,” said executive producer Liz Friedman.
So she’s fearless, reckless, and a risk taker. She’s also damaged. Atwell provided her own character analysis. “There’s a wild aspect of her,” she said. “I think she’s at times feeling that she is not so much reckless, but she’s in kind of a reckless situation, or she’s finding the environment she’s in, she’s kind of just reacting to that.”
“I did feel that there were elements of Hayes where she’s just stayed at the party too long, and she doesn’t quite know how to leave,” Atwell continued. “And she’s missed her ride, and the lights have gone off, but she’s eating congealed pizza.”
As part of Wallace’s Conviction Integrity Unit, Hayes will have to figure out whether or not the system failed. Determining whether justice was actually served is an intense, weighty responsibility.
Like it or not, she won’t have to face it alone. She has a team that she may or may not gel with — only time will tell if she’ll forge a bond with any of her coworkers. She, of course, will have to deal with DA Wallace. He and Hayes share a past that’s…complicated.
“[Connor]’s politically ambitious. I think he’s very bright, as is she,” said Cahill. “In some respects, he aspires to be who she is or covets what she has and maybe where she comes from.”
“I feel like [they] are these two sort of prize fighters who are constantly figuring out how to best each other,” Cahill said. “And in that, I think there’s respect, I think there’s attraction, and I think there’s a real will to win, you know, at all costs.”
For now, the forecast for Hayes’ future is bumpy. Turbulent, even. “I think that Hayes is going to make steps forward towards her redemption,” said Friedman. “I think she’s going to backslide like crazy. I think she’s consistently been her own worst enemy in her life, and when she starts to find her feet in a situation, she tends to self-sabotage.”
Added Atwell: “What makes it interesting as an actor is to find where the chinks in the armor are and the triggers of where she might just mess it up and the kind of underlying vulnerability, kind of the cost of having to be on form all the time and what that kind of does to her own psyche.”
CONVICTION airs Mondays beginning October 3 at 10/9c on ABC.
SCORPION Season 3 Premiere Sneak Peeks: Putting Romance Aside for Hackers
Walter raced to Lake Tahoe to confess his feelings for Paige when season 2 of SCORPION ended, but it looks like this couple has hit another roadblock. As Tim and Paige share a walk around the resort in the premiere tonight, Tim confesses to Paige that he’s very interested in pursuing a relationship with her, but he wants her to tell him if there’s anything holding her back. She thinks it over and tells him that she’s interested as well and the two of them kiss. Unfortunately, this is witnessed by Walter, who takes in the scene before walking away and then gets a call from Cabe about their newest assignment.
Elsewhere in the two-hour season premiere, Team Scorpion must put aside their personal and romantic predicaments when anonymous hackers with unknown motives take control of U.S. military aircraft and warships and point weapons at American cities. In the second hour, just as Team Scorpion makes headway against the hackers controlling U.S. naval destroyers, they learn that a U.S. nuclear submarine also has been hacked and has a missile about to launch.
Don’t miss the season premiere of SCORPION tonight (October 3) beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
THE FLASH Season 3 Premiere: A New Reality Awaits Barry in “Flashpoint”
There’s a lot of changes coming to THE FLASH season 3 premiere after Barry saved his mother’s life in the past and then subsequently messed with the timeline. After having viewed the premiere episode, we have a few teasers to share with you.
Welcome to Flashpoint. Barry is settling in nicely to his new universe. He’s working up the nerve to ask iris out on a date, he seems to be doing well at his CSI job and there’s a new Flash (we know him as Kid Flash) worrying about the metahuman criminals around the city, which leaves Barry free to live his life.
The Prisoner. Barry has Thawne/Reverse Flash locked up and he’s figured out a way to dampen his speed. Barry is determined to ensure Thawne never escapes because now he has everything Thawne and Zoom every took from him. Thawne tells Barry he’s hiding in a strange world that isn’t as rosy as it seems, but Barry doesn’t want to believe him. Even as Thawne points out that Barry is sitting on the sidelines while other heroes risk their lives Barry is still too happy to have his parents back to want to change things. Still, Thawne warns his rival “one day soon you’ll be begging me to kill [your mother] again”.
Cracks in the Shiny Facade. But things are not as happy as Barry wants to believe. Something very bad is going on with Joe. He’s constantly missing work and Barry is desperately trying to cover for him. But Joe isn’t interested in his help and he’s got a lot of friction with his daughter. In addition to these changes Barry realizes that he’s losing memories of his former life and once Thawne figures out the reason for this he warns Barry that soon this timeline will become permanent.
The Bad Guys vs the Good Guys. There’s a new villain in Central City — the Rival — and he’s giving Kid Flash a run for his money. When Barry stumbles upon Kid Flash’s operation he joins the team. But there’s really only one person who can help them: Cisco Ramon. He’s a charismatic billionaire entrepreneur and he isn’t that eager to help Team Kid Flash. We’re also introduced to Caitlin. She’s now a paediatric ophthalmologist in this reality and not part of the team, although her scientist brain proves helpful in a pinch.
Expect two big cliffhangers at the end of the episode, both of which look likely to have lasting repercussions. Tune in to the season premiere of THE FLASH on Tuesday, October 4 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
