It is that dreaded time of year again as some of your favorite shows will go on a winter hiatus, returning after the New Year in 2012. For fans of THE SECRET CIRCLE, tonight’s episode “Balcoin” is going to leave with them with a nice mini-cliffhanger to tide them over for the next six weeks.
So what can we look forward to in the Fall finale tonight? Lots of witchy-goodness as Cassie (Britt Robertson) finds out a lot more about her family tree and what Jake (Chris Zylka) is really up to — but not before putting her heart on the line; Adam (Thomas Dekker) and Faye (Phoebe Tonkin) make an unusual alliance in the quest for the truth; and Diana (Shelley Hennig) takes a stab at moving on from her doomed romance with Adam. Then, on the adult-front, Charles (Gale Harold) and Dawn (Natasha Henstridge) begin to realize something about their own precarious relationship, and Jane (Ashley Crow) feels the after-effects of Charles’ spell, which made her forget about what she saw at Henry’s lake house. Ask the Addict: Spoilers for THE SECRET CIRCLE, DEXTER, ONCE UPON A TIME, GREY’S ANATOMY & More!
Rumor has it that tonight’s episode of GREY’S ANATOMY is one of those classic sob-fests. True or false? — Amy
The TV Addict: Short Answer: True. Long Answer: Based on tonight’s tear-jerker of a mid-season finale that features a very unexpected outcome to Meredith and Derek’s adoption woes, multiple character deaths, not to mention an ending that will leave fans on the edge of their seat as they ask themselves what on earth is going to happen next, our working theory is that Showrunner Shonda Rhimes must be some sort of secret investor in a Kleenex company. Which is our not so subtle way of saying that there will be tears… for a variety of different characters.
Having really enjoyed the way in which you broke the news last week that “Belle” would be dropping by ONCE UPON A TIME I’m hoping I might implore you to include some sort of similar tease in this week’s column? — Monica
The TV Addict: Flattery will get you everywhere, including a yes to your request… assuming of course you can decipher the following tease that has the next batch of Fairytale characters scheduled to drop by Storybrooke Maine involved with what many might consider the precursor to Willy Wonka. Read into that what you will. [Read more…]

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Things You Didn’t Know About CASTLE Star Tamala Jones
While odds are fairly good that you already know that actress Tamala Jones can be seen every Monday night at 10PM on the hit ABC series CASTLE, here are five things you might not know about her.
Was kind of saved by the bell!
From her youth spent recreating scenes from her favorite childhood movie (“I wanted to be Coco and would redo the whole opening of Fame in my backyard almost everyday”) Tamala Jones always knew she wanted to be an actress but it took two of her high school classmates for really inspiring her to pursue her dreams. Explained Jones, “I went to school with Lark Voorhies [SAVED BY THE BELL’s Lisa Turtle] and Jaleel White (FAMILY MATTERS’ Urkel), both of whom who were so amazing and sweet, and while I always knew I was going to be an actress those two really put the fire under my feet to make me go ahead and do it.”
Her favorite bone is the funny one.
Despite her current flair for the dramatic that currently finds her playing Medical Examiner Lanie Parish on the hit ABC series CASTLE, Jones’ first love is comedy. “Comedy is just so much more fun. You get to play, laugh all day and meet really interesting people like Chris Rock, Bernie Mac, D.L. Hughley and Tracy Morgan,” explained Jones during a recent one-on-one with the TV Addict. “That said, I like to throw in a drama here and there just to let you know I can. I love drama, but things get a little dark at times and I’m a really silly and goofy person.” [Read more…]

The Intangibles Killing Television
In today’s television climate, it is nearly impossible to predict what kind of show will be a hit and which will just miss the mark and fade into oblivion. Shows with sterling pedigrees, all-star casts, brilliant writing and some with double the money of other shows are still unable to reach their audience. Lots of fingers are pointed when shows that are supposed to be “guaranteed” successes don’t succeed. But even with all the right ingredients, there are certain intangibles that networks and studios are refusing to recognize as significant contributors to why shows today are not making it.
In an effort to illuminate the intangibles having such negative effects on television shows, I have identified a dozen categories that need to be considered. [Read more…]
