USA Network unveiled its spring/summer schedule today, announcing the premiere dates for returning shows such as SUITS and SHOOTER, as well as the premiere date for new shows like THE SINNER.

BIG STAR LITTLE STAR – Series premiere Wednesday, May 31 at 9/8c
Hosted by five-time Emmy nominee and Critics’ Choice winner Cat Deeley, BIG STAR LITTLE STAR is a fun-loving celebrity family game show which pairs stars with their kids as they playfully test their knowledge of one another. All in good fun to win money for their chosen charities, each episode will feature three famous families as they reveal the most hilarious behind-the-scenes moments about their real lives.

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH – Season 2 premieres Thursday, June 8 at 10/9c
Inspired by the global best-selling novel “La Reina Del Sur” by internationally acclaimed author Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Season 2 follows the journey of Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga) and the sacrifices she must make not only to survive, but to make it to the top of the drug world. Where will she draw the line when her moral code and her destiny are at odds?

PLAYING HOUSE – Season 3 premieres Friday, June 23 at 11/10c (entire season on VOD June 24)

SUITS – Season 7 premieres Wednesday, July 12 at 9/8c
Now that Mike (Patrick J. Adams) is officially recognized as a lawyer and has accepted Harvey’s (Gabriel Macht) offer to return to the firm, Season 7 will see the team back together again at Pearson Specter Litt — each dealing with their own struggles as they adjust to a new world order without Jessica (Gina Torres). The series’ 100thepisode will debut during Season 7, on August 30.

SHOOTER – Season 2 premieres Tuesday, July 18 at 10/9c
Based on the best-selling novels by Stephen Hunter and the 2007 Paramount film starring Mark Wahlberg, Season 2 of SHOOTER follows the journey of Bob Lee Swagger (Ryan Phillippe), a highly decorated veteran who must confront a nemesis from his past in order to return to a life of normalcy.

THE SINNER – Series premiere Wednesday, August 2 at 10/9c
Starring and executive produced by Jessica Biel, THE SINNER follows a young mother who, when overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage, commits a startling act of violence and to her horror, has no idea why. Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive. Based on Petra Hammesfahr’s book of the same name, the eight-episode crime thriller’s driving force is not the “who” or the “what” — but the “why.” The series was created by showrunner and executive producer Derek Simonds with Charlie Gogolak also serving as executive producer. For Iron Ocean, Biel and Michelle Purple serve as executive producers. Antonio Campos executive produced and directed the pilot. The series is from Universal Cable Productions.

LUCIFER Preview: Is That….God?

April 2, 2017 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

lucifer

Is God finally coming to LUCIFER? It looks like he is. A new preview that debuted at WonderCon this weekend set up the return of the show, which will happen in about a month.

According to the trailer below Lucifer is concocting a plan — one that will bring the angels back to Heaven. As for his mother, he plans to shut her out. As Linda rightly points out, bringing Charlotte close to Heaven could draw the attention of God, her husband. But Lucifer has a plan for that too — he wants both of his parents to get exactly what they deserve.

The preview also shows Tim Omundson (GALAVANT, SUPERNATURAL) appearing as….well, probably God. Is Daddy coming to Earth to deal with his family?

Elsewhere in the spring premiere, it’s two weeks after Chloe’s near death and Lucifer returns to L.A. just in time to help solve an up-and-coming guitarist’s murder and introduces the department to a ditzy stripper named Candy, a mysterious new woman in his life. But since his disappearance Chloe isn’t so eager to forgive and forget and he needs to prove to her that he should be let back on the team.

LUCIFER returns with all new episodes on Monday, May 1 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

CHICAGO FIRE Sneak Peek: A Leap from the Window

January 17, 2017 By Rebecca Riley Leave a Comment

chicago fire

On last week’s CHICAGO FIRE, Severide heroically made the commitment to donate his bone marrow to Anna (played by ROOKIE BLUE’s Charlotte Sullivan) but unfortunately, on this week’s episode, it looks like fate has other plans.

While on a call, Severide climbs in through a window to save a young woman from her burning apartment. Unfortunately, after he safely gets the girl back outside onto the ladder, the room seems to explode and he must make a hasty exit…through the window….from the second floor. Luckily — as we see him later in the episode being treated by one of CHICAGO MED’s fine doctors — he did survive and will recover fully.

But the downside? Due to the fall and subsequent bruising on his pelvis, Severide will be unable to donate the marrow he signed over to Anna. And if viewers remember last week’s, because Anna has already started to undergo chemotherapy (essentially destroying her immune system), if she doesn’t receive new bone marrow immediately after the chemo treatment ends, her body will shut down and she will most likely die. Will the doctors be able to save her, and will Severide have any feelings of guilt if they are unable to do so?

Catch an all new CHICAGO FIRE tonight (January 17) at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

LUCIFER Set Tour: Go Behind the Scenes of Production Design, Wardrobe and Props

The inspiration for LUX came from a club in L.A. that’s about three times the size of the one you see on television. Production has also removed some furniture from the set since season 1 in order to open up the area more.

Lucifer managed to save both his club and his penthouse in a recent episode of LUCIFER, so he won’t have to relocate any time soon. Which is a good thing, because both locations are very cool and dark looking and perfectly compliment his devilish nature.

During a recent visit to the LUCIFER set in Vancouver, we got a tour of the penthouse, LUX, Chloe and Maze’s new apartment and Dr. Linda’s office. You can browse through those photos above.

Meanwhile, Costume Designer Shanna Mair also shared some tidbits about what it’s like to clothe the actors on the show. For every outfit that ends up on camera, Shanna’s department tries out 4-8 outfits before the final decision is made. Imagine how many clothes they must go through for all of the main charcters and some of the more prominent extras. Her department also has 8 to 9 days to prep for every episode. As a result, for the main actors they tend to build a little closet that fits with their characters so they don’t have to scramble at the last minute. The show also can’t use the LAPD name or logo for its police characters, because it’s against copyright laws. So they’re called the “Los Angeles Police” on the show, but the costume department makes their uniforms look very close to the actual LAPD uniforms. The only difference is that their uniforms are more tailored so they look less boxy.

Lucifer’s suits are primarily Burberry, Ted Baker, Hugo Boss and Canali. Each of these suits show well on camera and fans with a keen eye will notice that he tends to wear the same suits over and over again.

Maze’s outfits, meanwhile, are a big collaboration between the costume department and Lesley-Ann Brandt because Lesley-Ann knows her character so well. Costumes will send a lot of photos back and forth and they “fall into these fantastic outfits”, says Shanna.

LUCIFER doesn’t really get a lot of inspiration from the comics because Shanna doesn’t want to be too influenced by the source material and instead wants to ensure that the show creates its own characters. However, they do include a few little nods to it. Watch out for a shirt that Maze wears in episode 11 or 12 — fans of the comics will recongize it.

Shanna explained that Mom is like three characters in one: a lawyer, Charlotte and Lucifer’s mom. She’s got that “cutting edgeness to her” and they dress her in appropriate clothes depending on what role she is playing. If she’s acting as a lawyer they “dress her like a lawyer”. If she’s acting as Lucifer’s mom “she gets a little bit of edgy sexiness”. If she’s dressing like Charlotte she “looks a bit like a mom lawyer”.

Dan is an everyday kind of guy – he has to wear comfortable clothing that makes him look a little cool and stylish. Shanna tends to dress him in a lot of leather jackets and henleys, and most of the other actors don’t wear that same combination so that he’s distinctive.

Finally, Amenadiel is probably the character that has evolved the most in terms of clothing since the show because. He went from angel outfit to a more structured suit to a more urban look as he turned into a regular guy. DB loves the new look for his character.

LUCIFER: The Cast Talks Mom’s Intentions, the Appearance of God and More

November 21, 2016 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

lucifer

Since the introduction of Lucifer and Amenadiel’s mother on LUCIFER, fans have been left wondering what she has up her sleeve. Are her intentions pure towards her “children” or is she evil? And, for that matter, will her ex-husband (ie. God) be making an appearance this season?

During a visit to the LUCIFER set in Vancouver, stars Tom Ellis (Lucifer), Tricia Helfer (Mom/Charlotte), DB Woodside (Amenadiel) and writer Mike Costa spoke to journalists about Mom’s intentions, the figure of God hanging over the series and whether we’ll see any other characters from the comics on the show.

The God Problem. God made a deal with Lucifer at the end of last season and when Lucifer failed to honor his side of the bargain, his Father sent down Uriel to collect on the debt. Now Uriel is dead — killed by Lucifer’s hand — and Lucifer is still dodging his Father. So will God send another collector down? Ellis said that “a big part of our season this year is about that. It’s about what God has in store. Or what God has put in the path of Lucifer. Maybe not so specifically about that particular deal, but it’s more about Lucifer getting his head around — it’s a power struggle. Lucifer wants to take that power away from his dad and ultimately the question is ‘can he? Is that possible?’ Or is this person, this omniscient being everyone believes is here, are they in control kind of things? The big aspect of religion and stuff like that is how much of it is our choice and how much of it is all pre-determined or pre-destined and all of that. So we touch on that.”

Costa did, however, flat out tell us that we shouldn’t expect to see God any time soon, saying “the question of God, the fact that he is so present and not there is a gift in a lot of ways. We have the conversation in episode 5 where they say, ‘We don’t know what he wants. We don’t know what God wants because he doesn’t talk to us.’ That gives our characters room to project into that. Right now, we’re just dealing with that. And God is not appearing any time soon, if that’s the question. No. He’s still removed and it’s about Lucifer and Mom and Amenadiel trying to deal with essentially an absent father.”

Woodside jokingly said “It’s always been my hope that God is played by Morgan Freeman in like Season 5. I think what makes the show so powerful is we have the same relationship with God that humans do. He doesn’t exactly talk to us, we don’t know what he wants. There’s something that’s really interesting about that. I hope we don’t see God until our very last season.”

Does Mom/Charlotte Have Genuine Love For Her Sons? LUCIFER fans have been suspicious since day 1 that Mom’s motives may not have been innocent. It seems clear now that she’s looking to get her ex-husband’s attention and get some revenge against him for casting her into Hell, while at the same time she’s eager to bring her sons back to Heaven. But how much of her love for her sons is genuine? Helfer said that “Where we are, I haven’t read the rest of the episodes or the outlines. But I’d probably make a safe bet that it’s both: Mom has a genuine affection for her children. But she also has a plan. She has something that she wants. She wants to get back what was taken from her. I’ve said it before, but it really was true. She was banished down to Hell. She would like to get back up to Heaven. That’s very clear. Does she have to do some things along the way that she wouldn’t otherwise want to do? But she does genuinely love her children.”

Meanwhile, Woodside agreed with Helfer and said “One of the things I can say is she really does love her children. She’s a mom. We play [with] the reality, [but] the circumstances very real. You have these children who come from a divorced household and for reasons we don’t really know, the father was pretty cruel to their mom. She’s trying to have a relationship with her sons, which makes sense. We just don’t know if there’s more behind it or she’s genuine. The way Tricia plays it, it’s just amazing.

In Her Absence. What does Mom think about what Lucifer has been up to in her absence? Given that she doesn’t think much of humans, it’s clear she’s doesn’t understand his desire to remain on Earth while she wants to return to Heaven. Helfer said that Mom “looks at humanity as insects, mosquitoes. She doesn’t understand the fascination, and doesn’t understand why he doesn’t want to go back. She can understand why he doesn’t want to go back to Hell, but she can’t understand why he doesn’t want to go back to Heaven. In the beginning of the season when Mom was a fish out of water, being in a human body for the first time, hating humanity, but also being in the form and getting used to things. She of course knows about humanity and how it generally works, but there are intricacies that are difficult. But as we go along, the more she’s here, the more she’s going to be comfortable in the skin she’s in, the more she’s going to be comfortable with what’s going on. And because of that, the more you’re involved in something, the more you start to empathize or sympathize with somebody. So she will start to understand some things and like some things she never would have thought in the first couple of episodes and when she first got here. She never would have thought she would like anything about being in human form. I think she’ll start to understand Lucifer to some extent, but she wouldn’t understand why he wouldn’t want to leave. And that may be where a plan starts to form — figuring out how to get back.”

Revealing His True Form. Lucifer took a bit of a risk when he showed his true face to Linda and now that the therapist is aware of the existence of celestial beings she’s fascinated with them. How will Mom react when she finds out that her son may have blown their cover? With nonchalance, actually. She learns about this in tonight’s episode and “there probably is some concern over what could happen,” Helfer said. “But at this point she’s not too concerned about it. It’s not changing much of the dynamic. And she probably feels she could do something about it if things did start to cause a problem. I’m not sure what, but at this point, she’s not too concerned about it.

Will the Show Introduce More Characters From the Comics? “We talk about that a lot, and a lot of it is a timing thing,” Costa admitted. When’s the right time? Because the comic is so obviously totally supernatural, and we want to be very careful when we introduce our supernatural characters so that we don’t just start throwing everything at the wall. When Uriel showed up, it was a very specific reason, and it served a very strong dramatic purpose. So much as we all have our favorite characters from the comic and we definitely want to see more of them, but every time we introduce a character like that, it has to be such a big deal.” Costa did, however, admit that there’s one comics character he’d love to see: “Gaudium is a big favorite. I don’t know how we would make Gaudium work, but it would be great if we could figure that out.”

Don’t miss an all new episode of LUCIFER tonight (November 21) at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Fox (U.S.) and CTV (Canada).
