TIMELESS Preview: First Look at NBC’s New Time Travel Series

May 15, 2016 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

timeless

Lucy is one of the most history popular professors at her university when TIMELESS begins, but her modern teaching styles don’t really appeal to the school’s tenure committee. And while she seems very unappreciated in the world of academia, Lucy is about to get a big opportunity that perfectly fits her skills.

One night, a mysterious criminal and his henchmen steal a secret state-of-the-art time machine and they’re looking to destroy the country as people know it by changing the past. Lucy is soon recruited by Homeland Security — along with soldier Wyatt and scientist Rufus — to help retrieve the machine and stop the criminal from changing the past. To do that, they’re going to use the machine’s original prototype. Their first stop is to 1937 and the site of the Hindenburg disaster.

But in addition to preventing the past from being destroyed by this criminal, they also have to make every effort not to affect the past themselves.

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Sneak Peek: Saving Bonnie Bennett?

April 29, 2016 By Melissa Smith Leave a Comment

tvd

William Shakespeare once wrote THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, which involved brothers, infidelity, the supernatural, demonic possession, madness, near-seduction, mistaken identities, jealousy and possible death.

Tonight, in “Kill’Em All,” and with Bonnie’s (Kat Graham) life at stake, some previously unholy alliances are formed, some make a return to the supernatural lifestyle, and there is a journey back from near-madness bring the Shakespearian-vibe to THE VAMPIRE DIAIRIES. Here is a list of disparate occurrences that somehow will knit themselves into a coherent tale of woe and warning. Feel free to pick out the funny and the ironic.

1) Caroline (Candice King) concocts a brew that could help Bonnie back to health…a witch’s brew for a witch.

2) Alaric (Matt Davis) and Caroline face the truth that they never will have a normal life. With children who are witch-siphons, a vampire mom and a vampire-hunter dad, they hardly will be the PTA presidents.

3) Ric finds an antiquity of Charlemagne’s in the Armory archives with many other ancient relics. (Kid in candy shop time…)

4) Alaric and Caroline are on a roadtrip outside of Lexington, Kentucky, (an area known for its supernatural ties), in search of a couple named Ashland and Wyatt whose physical form seem to be in flux (inside joke: Ashland and Wyatt share their names with apartment buildings near the University of Kentucky).

5) Caroline hid the crossbow bolts in the girls’ Halloween box.

6) Penny (guest star Ana Noguiera) tried to kill Stefan but Matt (Zach Roerig) ended up killing Penny by mistake. Penny died rather than drink Stefan’s life-saving blood. Stefan (Paul Wesley) wiped Matt’s memory rather than have the deputy suffer, yet Matt blamed Stefan all along. (No good deed goes unpunished.)

7) Damon appeals to Alex to help finish Rayna’s list so that the huntress will give her last life to save the Bennett witch.

8) Rayna (guest star Leslie-Anne Huff) continues to feed her blood to Bonnie to keep her cloaked from the Armory’s locator spell, and the witch begs Enzo (Michael Malarkey) to return home for her last days.

9) Bonnie’s magic returns and the Armory is able to find her. She forgives Damon (Ian Somerhalder) in a moment of doubt that the Rayna/switch plan will work.

10) The mysterious Yvette St. John (guest star Aisha Duran) is found in her Armory prison, having a possible effect on Bonnie. Unknown to Alex (guest star Mouzzam Makkar), Bonnie’s last spell before fainting is to lock Alex and her Armory crew inside the tomb.

11) Because money may be for nothing but the chicks are for free, has Damon’s act of contrition turned Bonnie into the vampire-hunting weapon that used to be Rayna?

12) Damon succeeds in having Rayna’s remaining life transferred into Bonnie, with one slight miscalculation…Bonnie will now carry the mantle of “vampire huntress” and turn on all of her friends. (No good deed goes unpunished…amplified.)

13) Is tonight a rescue mission or just a Comedy of Errors? For those suffering Triskaidekaphobia, eliminate one bulletpoint before deciding which to find funnier.

Tonight’s episode of THE VAMPIRE DIAIRIES, “Kill’Em All,” was written by Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux and directed by Kellie Cyrus.

Watch as nothing seems to go the way it should on THE VAMPIRE DIAIRIES, tonight at 8pm on The CW.

Fall TV Preview: QUANTICO

September 27, 2015 By Kelly Thompson 2 Comments

DOUGRAY SCOTT, AUNJANUE ELLIS, PRIYANKA CHOPRA, JAKE MCLAUGHLIN, JOHANNA BRADDY, GRAHAM ROGERS, YASMINE AL MASSRI, TATE ELLINGTON

The Premise: A diverse group of recruits has arrived at the FBI Quantico Base for training. They are the best, the brightest and the most vetted, so it seems impossible that one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11. “Quantico” stars Priyanka Chopra as Alex Parrish, Josh Hopkins as Liam O’Connor, Jake McLaughlin as Ryan Booth, Aunjanue Ellis as Miranda Shaw, Johanna Braddy as Shelby Wyatt, Tate Ellington as Simon Asher, Graham Rogers as Caleb Haas and Yasmine Al Massri as Nimah Amin. “Quantico” was written by Joshua Safran. Executive producers are Joshua Safran, Mark Gordon, Nicholas Pepper, Jake Coburn and Robert Sertner. “Quantico” is produced by ABC Studios.

The Premiere Date: Sunday, Sept. 29 (10:00-11:00 PM ET/PT) on ABC (CTV in Canada)

The Competition: CSI: CYBER (CBS) and NBC’S NFL FOOTBALL

The Quick Take: Despite an cringe-worthy elevator pitch that screams, “It’s GREY’S ANATOMY meets HOMELAND!” QUANTICO completely works. From the shocking opening scene revealing a terrible 9/11-esque attack to the pilot’s crazy cliffhanger of an ending, QUANTICO played like a roller coaster ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat (or in our case, couch) for the entirity of its forty-four minute run time. Seriously. Complete with all the elements that make a great pilot: Interesting and diverse characters coupled with some solid storytelling and pitch perfect ending, QUANTICO should most certainly be on your list of shows to catch this fall.

QUANTICO: Watch the First 8 Minutes of the New ABC Series

The Bottom Line: We’re in for two reasons. (1) We detest football, and (2) should this show be a success, we’re mighty curious what season two and dare we say season three look like!

QUANTICO: Watch the First 8 Minutes of the New ABC Series

September 17, 2015 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

QUANTICO

A diverse group of agents enters the FBI training academy in the series premiere of QUANTICO, but is one of them actually a terrorist? The show flashes back between the future (which shows the aftermath of a terrorist attack on Grand Central Station) and the present (which focuses on the lives of the new FBI recruits) in the hopes of figuring out the truth.

Alex Parrish joins the FBI in a search for answers about her father, but she’s not the only one keeping secrets. Her fellow trainees include: Ryan Booth (ex-military), Shelby Wyatt (an orphaned Southern belle), Eric Packer (a Mormon with a troubled past), Simon Asher (the first openly gay FBI recruit), Nimah Amin (an observant Muslim with a double life), and Caleb Haas (for whom the FBI is a family business). In the future, she’s found among the wreckage of the fabled train station and immediately becomes a suspect. Can she clear her name and find out who the real terrorist is?

ABC has released the first 8 minutes of the series, which you can watch below. QUANTICO premieres on Sunday, September 27 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Here it is… #8MinutesOfQuantico we're all so excited for you to see it! Feedback please!!! #Quantico https://t.co/ErqcjQTpEs

An Open Letter to PARKS AND RECREATION EPs Greg Daniels and Mike Schur: Thank You

February 24, 2015 By Victoria Nelli 1 Comment

parks and recreation finale

Mike Schur and Greg Daniels,

For over a decade you both have given us television that has made us laugh, cry, laugh some more, and sometimes make us feel extremely uncomfortable. Nonetheless, it’s always entertained us. Whether it’s Rainn Wilson ripping the mask off of a CPR training dummy or making Amy Poehler try to walk across an ice rink while “Catch Your Dream” blasts in the background.

Being the final episode of my favorite show on television is tonight I felt it would be appropriate to thank the both of you for a couple of things.

Although the jokes and quick bits always made me laugh (still not sure how Pratt came up with that “network connectivity” punch… it still gets me) the love and heart of the show is what kept me and millions of others watching week after week. Thank you for giving us beautifully written scenes. Ben (Adam Scott) and Leslie’s proposal is one of the sweetest scenes I’ve ever seen.

Thank you for Amy Poehler. I could go on and on as to why she embodies everything Leslie Knope is, and why NO ONE could play Leslie better than her but this note would never end. Thank you for putting her back on my screen after SNL and thank you for making her rap “Parents Just Don’t Understand.”

Thank you for giving Leslie two great loves, adorable geek, Ben Wyatt and beautiful tropical fish, Ann. (Rashida Jones) They helped shape so much of who Leslie was as a person and they made her so strong.

I never thought the death of a miniature horse could make me sob- but it did. Thank you for Lil Sebastian.

Chris Pratt, Nick Offerman, Jim O’Heir, Aziz Ansari, Rashida Jones, Retta, Rob Lowe, Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza, and Amy Poehler. Thank you for this magical combination of brilliant people.

I have an embarrassing secret to admit. I’ve never watched a show from the premiere and stayed with it till the end. Somewhere in the middle I always leave and come back or I start late and play catch up. That was until April 9, 2009. I was fourteen and in my freshman year of high school when I sat down to watch a new comedy on NBC. I was mesmerized, and couldn’t wait for the next episode. Watching Leslie’s passion and love for her tiny little parks department was inspiring. I instantly knew if I ever found a career that I loved as much as Leslie loved that department- I would be okay. Thank you for giving me that feeling at an age where I still wasn’t so sure as to what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

Finally, thank you for making us trust you. Over the years I’ve watched my favorite shows stray from their original tone, lose their hilarity, and plummet in content- PARKS never did. I always worry when a finale roles around. The creators hold so much power in their hands and have complete control over our last meeting with these people that we’ve grown to love. With you guys, I’ve never worried. I’ve never questioned any choice this show had made in the last seven seasons. You’ve never given me a reason to.

Thank you.

I love you and I like you,

Victoria Nelli

REVENGE! THE BACHELOR! EMPIRE! GENERAL HOSPITAL! JANE THE VIRGIN! The TV Addict Week in Rewind

January 23, 2015 By Richard M. Simms Leave a Comment

empire taraji

Lamest Villain: REVENGE made a big deal about ubervillain Malcolm… who was offed a couple episodes later. Seriously? What is wrong with this show? And who do we need to talk to in order to get it back on track?

Best Date: Sure, they arrived in a limo and sipping champagne, but thanks to guest host Jimmy Kimmel, THE BACHELOR and Katelyn wound up shopping at Costco “like real couples do.”

Most Ready To Sit In Judgement: With Mary Murphy having boarded the hot tamale train leaving the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE station, Paula Abdul is set to join Jason Derulo, Nigel Lythgoe and longtime host Cat Deeley at the judges table. Look for Abdul to find new and interesting ways in which to compliment people who are truly awful.

Least Aware Of What They Are Selling: Continuing to completely ignore its own name, the network Animal Planet is adding a show called INSANE POOLS to a line-up that already includes such animal-less offerings as TANKED and TREEHOUSE MASTERS.

Best Rivalry: Put EMPIRE’s Cookie and Anika in the same room, and a good time is guaranteed. [Read more…]

JANE THE VIRGIN! REVENGE! GENERAL HOSPITAL! ONCE UPON A TIME! THE NEWSROOM! The TV Addict Week in Rewind

December 12, 2014 By Richard M. Simms Leave a Comment

jane the virgin

Coolest Breakthrough: At long last, someone has recognized that there are praise-worthy programs on The CW, with JANE THE VIRGIN scoring that network’s first Golden Globe nods.

Least Special “Special” Ever: Everyone at Discovery should be ashamed of their involvement with EATEN ALIVE… although I suspect that instead, they are gleefully planning a follow-up to what proved to be a ratings bonanza for the channel.

Lamest Resolution: I get that fairy tales are all about happy endings, but after weeks of the Ice Queen storyline, ONCE UPON A TIME basically wrapped things up with a Grinch-like “her heart grew three sizes that day and everything was awesome!”

Least Shocking Death: Given that portrayer Josh Bowman had made it pretty clear in various interviews how unhappy he was with his character’s trajectory, it wasn’t entirely surprising when REVENGE’s Daniel took a bullet for Emily.

Coolest Casting: Honestly, I’d have been disappointed if Ryan Murphy hadn’t landed HALLOWEEN star Jamie Lee Curtis for the upcoming SCREAM QUEENS!

Best Reaction: When THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Michael finally revealed to wife Lauren that he had cancer, the beauty laughed heartily. Why? She had suspected for weeks that he was cheating on her. Her laughter was as shocking as it was believable in the moment. [Read more…]
