Amrie’s Take on TV: Summer TV Preview

May 1, 2007 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

It’s officially May.

May is my least favorite month of the year for two reasons. One, the number 5 is my least favorite number to write, so having to write the date for 31 days aggravates me. Two, normally, our favorite shows end and we’re left waiting for months to find out what happens with our favorite characters.

In previous years, May has been an end of the season, and I’ve spent the summer getting caught up on old shows, TV on DVD, catching up with friends I haven’t seen since the season premieres in 2006.

Recently, however, networks and cable channels have been offering up summer fare that keeps me endlessly hooked on the TV, and leaves me pushing back the “catching up with old friends.”

This summer, to keep us shaded and pale, we’re being offered some great TV –

Fox cancels Kelley’s Wedding As Viewers Fall Hard For Tudors

April 4, 2007 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

If you’ve been meaning to check out David E. Kelley’s midseason show THE WEDDING BELLS, you best do so soon. Fox will shut down production of the series following completion of its seventh episode. In a statement, Fox said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, it just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Based on overwhelmingly negative critical response to the series, one has to wonder if the network has a different definition of “first rate” than the rest of the world!

In other news, expect Showtime to announce a second season for THE TUDORS any day now. The debut of the pricey costume drama was the highest rated premiere on the channel in three years. In fact, the inaugural episode brought in over 40 percent more viewers than the first episode of DEXTER and nearly 80 percent more eyeballs than watched the launch of WEEDS. Assuming those numbers don’t slide drastically, Showtime will no doubt wish they had more than six episodes to offer fans hungry for the sexy saga.

Krysten Ritter Talks ‘Til Death, Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars

March 29, 2007 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

krysten ritter interview

Jenny recently had the opportunity to ask Krysten Ritter some pressing questions! Find out if she’ll be back on 2 fan favorites as Gia from Veronica Mars and Lucy from Gilmore Girls, when she’ll be on ‘Til Death as Allison, the snarky, dark college daughter of Eddie and Joy, and what she has planned for the future!

————-

Jenny: What are you currently working on?

Krysten Ritter: I just shot the season finale of ‘Til Death and today I started on a pilot called The Rich Inner Life of Penelope Cloud for CBS, starring Marisa Tomei. The writer (Jeff Greenstein) is someone I met 2 years ago (on another pilot that was not picked up) so I am thrilled to be working with him.

krysten ritter interview

Jenny: A lot of our readers will know you as Gia Goodman from Veronica Mars last season. How was working with that cast?

Krysten: Lovely. This was my first major recurring role on a series – so my first time really experiencing an on-going, long lasting job where you really get to know everyone and form a little family etc. I really enjoyed Ryan and Kristen (who I worked with the most) and made great friends. This was a fabulous set environment and I couldn’t have asked for a better first TV experience, I miss it. I tried to absorb as much information as I possibly could. I found myself really paying attention to everything that was going on – even behind the camera. The way things were shot, lit, and all of that. The knowledge I gathered while filming Veronica Mars definitely informed other projects of mine that I’ve been producing and playing around with.

Amrie’s Take on TV: THE TUDORS

March 27, 2007 By theTVaddict 3 Comments

the tudors

I’m not proud to say that the only thing I remember from European History in high school and college about Henry VIII is the fact that he married Anne Boleyn and that he fooled around with her sister Mary.

Maybe you’re like me. Maybe you only know that he had 6 wives, or you know that he liked to “take a mistress,” or you know that he had some illegitimate kids. Maybe that’s the only thing you know.

I’m happy to tell you that the minute details of his extraordinary early life are not required knowledge before you dive into the 10-part miniseries that explores the world of King Henry VIII.

Showtime was kind enough to send over the first 6 episodes of this amazing show and I’m indebted to them for life.

Rather than focus on the things you may have learned in your European History classes, there are 5 basic things you should know about this show before diving in, head first, and enjoying every minute of it.

March 18, 2007 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Like all good things do, the 2007 Paley Festival has come to an end. The TV addict had a fantastic week in Los Angeles, enjoying the sun, the food (In-N-Out Burger, Pinks Famous Hot Dogs — Yum!) and of course the TV. In case you missed them, click the links below to check out our Paley Festival Recaps.

2007 Paley Festival Recap: NIP/TUCK

March 13, 2007 By theTVaddict 8 Comments

The TV Addict himself got to pose with the original Kimber (Kelly Carlson). And no, I know what you’re thinking — she didn’t convert me to scientology.

In hindsight, the NIP/TUCK panel was perhaps the week’s most disappointing panel at this years Paley Festival. In fact, the word panel is a giant misnomer — as the night was pretty much dominated by two voices — creator Ryan Murphy and star Julian McMahon (Dr. Christian Troy). While Murphy offered up some interesting anecdotes and insight with regards to the show, star Julian McMahon dominated the conversation a little too much for this TV addict’s liking. Who knew Julian McMahon had so much in common with the centre-of-attention doctor he plays on NIP/TUCK?

That said, here’s what creator Ryan Murphy had to say with regards to the origins of NIP/TUCK, on casting the show, the infamous story-lines, stunt casting and of course, the carver controversy.

2007 Paley Festival Recap: HEROES

March 11, 2007 By theTVaddict 13 Comments

After attending last night’s HEROES panel at the 2007 Paley Festival, it’s quite clear that Tim Kring secretly gave each of our favourite HEROES a hidden secondary ability — the power of comedic timing. The audience of hundreds was puddy in the panels hand, laughing at every word that came out of Greg Grunberg’s (Matt Parkman) mouth and even more surprisingly Leonard Roberts (Seriously, who knew D.L. Hawkins was so funny? The guy was on fire). The following is theTVaddict’s best attempt to capture the energy and excitement of the event.

I’ll begin by saying that the night got off to a rocky start thanks to moderator Tony Potts (ACCESS HOLLYWOOD), Potts started off the evening with a pointless anecdote about losing his wedding ring on a recent trip to the Bahamas with his family. Someone needed to tell Tony — and fast — that even though he’s on TV, nobody was there to watch him talk. Thankfully, after screening the episode entitled “Homecoming” and watching a sneak peak at episode 19 Tony realized who we were all here to see an introduced the panel. The panel included creator Tim Kring, Santiago Cabrera (Isaac Mendez), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder Suresh), Jack Coleman (H.R.G), Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman), Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bennet), Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura), Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli), Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli), Ali Larter (Niki Sanders), Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah Sanders) and Leonard Roberts (D.L. Hawkins). Here’s what they had to say.

Tony Potts: The fans are obviously all dying to know what happens next after Monday’s fantastic episode. Are you all really nervous about what happens in the next script? Is it scary knowing Tim [KRING] holds the keys to your fate?

Tim Kring: As we speak we’re finishing writing the season finale, I know everyone’s fate.
Greg Grunberg: Tim survives.
Tim Kring: Yes, I’m doing nicely.

How hard is it not to know, people are dying, things happen?

Greg Grunberg: It’s exciting. I just read episode 22, which absolutely blew me away. I can honestly say that it’s going to blow everyone here away as well.

[Everyone looks at Milo….. (laughter)]

Greg Grunberg: It’s the nature of the show to know we’re all vulnerable, it’s exciting.

Jack Coleman: Unlike the rest of showbusiness which is so secure.

PRISON BREAK Scoop Direct from the 2007 Paley Festival

March 10, 2007 By theTVaddict 23 Comments

Captain Brad Bellick (Wade Williams) uncharectistically smiles while posing with theTVaddict himself. But honestly, who wouldn’t smile given the opportunity to take a photo with ‘THE’ TV Addict? That said, Brad Bellick was possibly the nicest actor I’ve ever met. He truly was thrilled to be part of the PRISON BREAK family.

The Museum of Radio and Television managed to do what America’s Law Enforcement couldn’t accomplish in almost two years — get the Fox River Boys in a room together. Guards… Guards! Unfortunately, two stars still managed to allude capture, namely Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield) and William Fichtner (FBI Special Agent Alexander Mahone) who had prior shooting commitments.

Yet any disappointment PRISON BREAK fans may have felt due to the absence of stars Miller and Fichtner were quickly forgotten thanks to an overall fantastic panel at the 2007 Paley Festival. The cast that did make an appearance — including Dominic Purcell (Lincoln Burrows), a very pregnant Sarah Wayne Callies (Sara Tancredi), Robert Knepper (T-Bag), Wade Williams (Captain Brad Bellick), Rockmond Dunbar (C-Note), Amaury Nolasco (Sucre) along with executive producers Marty Adelstein, Dawn Parouse and Paul Scheuring more than made up for the lack of everybody’s favourite tattooed inmate. Here’s what the panel had to share with regards to the evolution of the series, being cast as an inmate and the somewhat violent nature of the show. Be sure to read down to the end for some season three spoilers.

theTVaddict Goes to Hollywood (Day 1)

March 7, 2007 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

I’ve always had a little anxiety when it comes to flying. My fear doesn’t stem from a fear of death or total lack of airplane security — having once inadvertently smuggled an exacto knife on board a plane — it’s more so about the in-flight entertainment. Nothing screams doom like sitting down in your seat only to find out that you’ll be forced to sit through a double feature of ACCORDING TO JIM episodes and some foreign language film chronicling a Red Violin.

That said, if you’re disappointed with the lack of updates today on theTVaddict.com, know that I have a good reason. I’ll be hurdling across the country in a race against time to ensure I make it to the Paley Festival in time for the much anticipated DEXTER event tonight. Stay Tuned…
