ORPHAN BLACK: An Ode to Felix, The Best Brother Ever

May 18, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt 1 Comment

Everyone is talking about the mesmerizing chameleon work of Tatiana Maslany as her various incarnations in the series ORPHAN BLACK, but one of the more fascinating characters making up the clone-club world is Sarah’s right-hand man, Felix (Jordan Gravaris).

Sarah would literally be up a creek without the one person who has her back, her foster-brother Felix; even Paul (Dylan Bruce) had not been solidly on Sarah’s side to support her and help her until last week’s episode “Parts Developed In An Unusual Manner.”  Before that, Paul was really just monitoring Sarah’s increasingly erratic behavior.  It had been Paul’s job to only watch, not assist.  [Read more…]

ORPHAN BLACK Redux: A Romance So Twisted

May 10, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Last week’s episode “Variations Under Domestication” cranked up the insanity that had broken out as a result of Sarah’s (Tatiana Maslany) impersonation of her clone twin Beth (Tatiana Maslany), which then led to Sarah having to impersonate yet another clone in a pinch:  Allison (Tatiana Maslany), the seemingly idyllic housewife with the perfect life.  But Sarah had already learned the lesson of all that appears perfect on the outside maybe rotten to the core once you peel back someone’s personal life. ORPHAN BLACK Redux: Chafing Under the All-Seeing Monitoring Eye

May 4, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

The new British sci-fi series ORPHAN BLACK does not hesitate to throw in a curve ball every chance it gets. After discovering last week in the episode “Conditions of Existence” that Beth’s boyfriend Paul (Dylan Bruce) was actually a plant assigned to monitor her every move, Sarah (Tatiana Maslany) decided to turn the tables on him to find out what Paul was really up to. After planting a bug in his office, Sarah’s worst suspicions were confirmed. Paul was spying for the enemy. Then Paul sensing something was really off with faux-Beth, followed Sarah and snapped a picture of her with her daughter Kira (Skyler Wexler), which led to a very tense showdown back at Beth’s apartment. Guns drawn, Sarah and Paul had their first honest conversation. Unfortunately, just as they were letting their facades slip, the episode ended with Sarah asking Paul, “Just tell me why” and his cryptic response, “They don’t tell us why.” [Read more…]

TV Today: Why We Love Anti-Heroes

May 3, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

If you are a TV aficionado, then you have probably been hearing the term “anti-hero” a lot in the past decade.  In fact, Showtime has made a fortune off of its “anti-hero” platform showcasing its series DEXTER, WEEDS, HOMELAND, NURSE JACKIE, CALIFORNICATION, as well as its upcoming new series RAY DONOVAN.  These are perfect examples of shows that feature the joys and triumphs of “anti-heroes.”

But recently the “anti-hero” craze seems to have reached such a saturation point that no one can exactly define what an “anti-hero” is and how it differs from just being a villain or a hero.  [Read more…]

Ask the Addict: Spoilers for GLEE, PERSON OF INTEREST, SCANDAL, CASTLE & More!

September 13, 2012 By theTVaddict 2 Comments

In reference to your recent tweet about GLEE’s fourth season premiere, I’m hoping you might elaborate on why you think it’s the show’s strongest episode since its premiere? — Linda
The TV Addict: Where do I begin? Working my way backwards, the final scene of tonight’s season premiere that features two characters immensley integral to the show’s success sent the type of chills down my spine usually reserved for when something on the small screen really hits home. What’s more, the episode doesn’t rely so much on a gimmick, theme, or artist from which to generate story but rather by placing the proper emphasis on real characters and their relatable journeys. Which is to say, I found myself rooting or Rachel Berry for the first time in an awfully long time, I was genuinely curious about the plight of new editions Marley (Melissa Benoist) and Jake (Jacob Artist).

This longtime Gleek is somewhat concerned that all these new characters will be stealing to spotlight from the original cast of characters we’ve come to know and love. Thoughts? — Dylan
The TV Addict: While fans of Puck and Quinn most definitely have cause for concern, seeing as though it would appear that both of their characters have been effectively replaced by a half-brother Jake (Jacob Artist) and doppelgänger Kitty (Becca Tobin’s) respectively, Artie, Tina, Brittany and Kurt fans have absoposilutely nothing to worry about. Not only do Brittany and Artie get some of the episodes most memorable one-liners, Tina totally nails her musical number in her bid to become, as the episode title suggests, “the new Rachel.” While Kurt and his father share a scene that pretty much secure’s Burt Hummel’s entrance into the father of the year hall of fame.
