SUPERNATURAL: Alexander Calvert Teases What’s Next for Jack

November 16, 2017 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

This week’s SUPERNATURAL proved that Jack is far from in control of his powers. After heading out on a case with Dean, Sam and Castiel, Jack accidentally killed someone when trying to stop the episode’s monster-of-the-week. Unfortunately, his guilt convinced him that he needs to get far away from the people who have taken him in. This will lead to the Winchesters and Castiel splitting up to track down Lucifer’s son, but what he might get up to in the interim is anyone’s guess.

While visiting the set of SUPERNATURAL in Vancouver, we spoke with Alexander Calvert (Jack) about what’s next for the nephilim.

Why Did Jack Go on the Run? “Jack at this point is really naive to the world and to kind of get his first taste of being responsible for something so terrible really weighs on him and throws him in a direction that he’s not ready for. And that’s going to lead him to kind of make his next decision and his next kind of progress of where Jack is. Moving forward is him taking on that kind of darkness that he wasn’t really ready for yet.”

Where Does Jack Go? When Jack heads off, will he be working solo to search for answers? “Working is a good way to put it. He’s definitely trying to figure himself out and because of the guilt of what happens in ‘Tombstone’, he really pushes himself forward because he’s so guilty and messed up for hurting this person who was innocent. When Jack goes away from [the Winchesters and Castiel], he’s definitely on his own. It’s about his search for his father and his search for figuring himself out. Down the line, we’ll definitely see Jack interact with some fan favorites, I’ll say.”

The Continued Development of Jack’s Powers. In “Tombstone” we saw how thrilled Jack was after moving a pencil with his powers. Will we see him continue to develop his powers so that he can help Dean and Sam with their ultimate goal: get Mary back? “Going forward, you’re definitely going to see Jack try to do that. He knows ultimately that the thing that’s driving Sam and Dean is their mother and the way that Jack can be of service to them is to open that up and help Sam and Dean complete their journey in a way.”

The Danger of Jack. Given how powerful Jack is, what could happen if he starts to feel rejected? For example, what if the people he’s trying to count on turn against him somehow? “I think that’s a really dangerous place for Jack. The thing he wants more than anything is belonging. That’s why he’s attaching himself to Sam and Dean so much. He wants a family and he wants to belong. That’s a great point. If there’s that rejection, things could really go south. I hope that’s not the case.”

SUPERNATURAL airs Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. Watch a preview for the next episode below.

Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. Castiel has reunited with the Winchesters on the most recent episode of SUPERNATURAL and soon he’ll be meeting Jack for the first time. In the next episode, titled “Tombstone”, it’s actually Jack who suggests they investigate a case. He seems excited about the possibility that they could be investigating zombies, but they’re actually investigating a ghoul who happened to take on the persona of one of the “greatest gunfighters ever” according to Dean.

Speaking of Dean, he’s positively thrilled about investigating a case involving cowboys. After all, the last time he got to travel to the Wild West in “Frontierland” he was totally in his element. In a recent interview from the set, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Alexander Calvert teased this upcoming episode, as well as the upcoming meeting between Jack and Castiel.

SUPERNATURAL: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles & Alexander Calvert on the Upcoming Reunion and the Cowboy Episode

November 9, 2017 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

Castiel reunited with the Winchester brothers on this week’s SUPERNATURAL and the angel will be delving into a case with Sam and Dean in the next episode. He’ll also get a chance to meet Jack for the first time since his birth. Once that meeting happens, the group will head to Texas to investigate a case and fulfill Dean’s obsession with everything cowboy related.

During a visit to the set of SUPERNATURAL in Vancouver, we spoke to Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester), Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) and Alex Calvert (Jack) about the reunion with Cas and what’s to come in the next episode.

How Important Are the Winchesters? Before moving on to the next episode, we noticed that Billie brought Dean back from the dead this week because, according to her, Sam and Dean are “important”. We’ve always known that the Winchesters are crucial to the fate of the universe, but does Billie know something now that we don’t? Jared and Jensen aren’t yet sure. “We haven’t really found out why just yet,” Jared explained. “We know we’re important for some reason, but true to SUPERNATURAL form I think it will be a surprise to Sam and Dean and Jared and Jensen. I think the brothers have always felt like they have a higher cause and a greater calling, so I think they’re looking forward to figuring out exactly what it means.”

Loss of Faith. The meeting with Billie also revealed that Dean feels a bit loss after the recent deaths of his mother and friend. Cas’ return, however, will be considered a bit of a “win”, according to Jensen. “At the end of last season and the beginning of this season we do see that Dean is just of like given up, so to speak. So the return of Cas has ignited that fire again. He’s got some hope and motivation to dig a little deeper and see what we can figure out. Because if he was written off and Mom was written off, maybe there’s a few other people that shouldn’t have been written off. And we figure that out as the series continues to move on.”

Related: Watch some outtakes from our SUPERNATURAL interview with Jared & Jensen

Skeptical Sam. While Dean is just happy to have his buddy back and doesn’t seem to question the reason beyond Cas’ return going forward, Sam is a bit more skeptical, according to Jared. “I think Sam is really looking to find out what happened and how did it happened. Also, not just because of Sam’s intellectual curiosity, but Sam still wants mom back and, heck, if we can start calling out who we want back, I’m sure there are a lot of people Sam wouldn’t mind to bring back. So I think Dean is so relieved to have that win he’s looking for, and to have our buddy back. Sam’s like ‘OK, it is great, I agree, but, you know, to quote Dean — the other shoe is probably going to drop. So what else can this person do?'”

Jack and Castiel Meet. Castiel spent the later part of season 12 protecting Jack before his birth because he believed that the boy could help the world. Jack “adopted” Castiel as his surrogate father and was devastated when he learned that Cas was gone at the beginning of season 13. Now the two of them will finally come face-to-face. We’ll see that Jack and Cas are “close because they think it’s like meeting the only other alien,” Alexander said. “You’re an alien on the Earth and you thought you were alone, but then suddenly there’s someone who’s actually like you. I feel like they have that unique bond.” This moment will mean “everything to [Jack]. I don’t want to say too much cause I think it’s all kind of there when we see it, but I mean, a huge moment for Jack.”

Dean’s Love of Westerns. We saw that Dean is obsessed with Westerns all the way back in the season 6 episode of “Frontierland”, but he’ll get a chance to revisit that in the upcoming episode “Tombstone”. “I don’t think it’s any shock that I’ve always been kind of a fan of the iconic symbol of a cowboy and everything that comes along with that,” Jensen said. “A fan of western movies and everything. So when I read that Dean gets all excited about it and decides to play the part up, so to speak, I of course got excited as well. I think there’s a nice slow-mo montage of some snakeskin boots and a hat and the whole bit. But yeah, instead of playing FBI agents we get to play Texas Rangers, which is kind of fun.” Alexander said that the crew was so into this episode that “everyone in the crew dressed up as cowboys for one of the days.” (Browse through photos from the episode).

Watch a portion of our interview with Jared, Jensen and Alexander below (more to come!).

SUPERNATURAL airs Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

The Winchester brothers investigated a case with Jack on the most recent episode of SUPERNATURAL. But in the next episode they’ll be heading out on the road to investigate a case together — just like the good old days. Unfortunately, this one is a bit of a pickle. While the brothers are hot on the heels of tracking the ghost of a demented doctor, they’re shocked when they get assistance from a very unexpected source — Billie. You’ll recall that the (former?) reaper was actually killed by Castiel after saving Dean and Sam from a black site prison and then telling them to honor the deal they made with her to get out.

Meanwhile, Castiel recently woke up and faced an ancient entity in The Empty, only to be thrust out of that dimension. In the next episode he’ll be trying to find his way back to the Winchesters.
