CBS Studios is bringing several shows to San Diego Comic-Con, including EVIL, the STAR TREK universe, the new series NANCY DREW and more.

Thursday, July 18

  • “EVIL” EXCLUSIVE SCREENING AND PANEL 12:45-2:00 PM – EVIL is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The series focuses on a skeptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter as they investigate the church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there’s a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work. Please join series stars Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, Aasif Mandvi and Michael Emerson along with co-creators and executive producers Robert King and Michelle King for an exclusive sneak peek of the first episode followed by a panel discussion. DISCOVERY TRANSPORTER EXPERIENCE AND “TREK” TALENT MEET-AND-GREETS – CBS All Access is bringing the “Star Trek” universe to the San Diego Comic-Con Exhibit Hall, Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 21, where fans are invited to step aboard the U.S.S. Discovery and travel to strange and distant lands through an immersive transporter experience. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet some of their favorite “Star Trek” talent in person with meet-and-greets in the booth (Booth #4237) on Saturday, July 20.   • “JEAN-LUC PICARD: THE FIRST DUTY” EXHIBIT – In celebration of Patrick Stewart’s return to his iconic “Star Trek: The Next Generation” role, “Jean-Luc Picard: The First Duty” is a special exhibition showcasing original props, costumes and other artifacts tracing Picard’s life and Starfleet career. Items on display include his cherished Ressikan flute, the legendary Picard family album, his Starfleet uniforms, models of ships Picard captained, and all that remains of the “Borg Queen.” The gallery also features exclusive first looks at costumes and other items featured in the upcoming CBS All Access series STAR TREK: PICARD. Located in space “J” at the Interactive Zone at Petco Park, fans will be able to recreate the fun of James Corden’s wildly popular “Carpool Karaoke” segment and become the star of the car as they hop inside a branded Range Rover to sing along to their favorite songs. W Network, Showcase and ABC Spark Announce Fall 2019 Shows

The Canadian Upfront announcements continue today. Following the release of Global’s fall 2019 schedule, the Corus channels (W Network, Showcase and ABC Spark) have all announced their fall shows, including new series pickups.

W Network

  • Pearson – NEW SERIES – (August 2019)
    Powerhouse lawyer Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) leaves New York behind to take on the city of Chicago in this unique spinoff of the long-running hit legal drama, Suits. The former managing partner of Pearson Specter Litt is determined to make a difference in the Windy City as she navigates the corrupt and intimidating world of Chicago politics.
  • Nancy Drew – NEW SERIES – (Fall 2019)
    Nancy Drew (Kennedy McMann) is a brilliant teenaged detective whose sense of self had come from solving mysteries in her hometown of Horseshoe Bay, Maine – until her mother’s untimely death derails Nancy’s college plans. Devastated by her mother’s passing, Nancy swears off crime-solving while crossing off the days until she can re-apply to college. But when a socialite is murdered, Nancy finds herself a prime suspect in the crime, along with a group of other teens present at the scene: Nancy’s nemesis from high school, George Fan (Leah Lewis); A rich girl with a mysterious past, Bess Marvin (Maddison Jaizani); Nancy’s secret boyfriend, Ned “Nick” Nickerson (Tunji Kasim), and amiable burnout Ace (Alex Saxon).     A Riverdale spinoff, Katy Keene follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene, singer/songwriter Josie McCoy, performer Jorge Lopez/Ginger, and “It Girl” Pepper Smith — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City together.
  • Party of Five – NEW SERIES – (Winter/Spring 2020)
    Party of Five follows the five Acosta children – Emilio, Lucia, Beto, Valentina and baby Rafael – as they navigate daily life struggles to survive as a family unit after their parents are suddenly deported to Mexico. The series stars Brandon Larracuente as Emilio, Emily Tosta as Lucia, Niko Guardado as Beto and Elle Paris Legaspi as Valentina.

Showcase

  • Batwoman – NEW SERIES – (Fall 2019)
    Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, a highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a saviour, Kate must overcome her own demons before becoming Gotham’s new symbol of hope (watch trailer)
  • Swamp Thing – NEW SERIES – (Fall 2019)
    Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe. Based on characters from DC created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.
  • Pennyworth – NEW SERIES – (Fall 2019)
    This DC origin story follows Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne, who’s not yet Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960s London.
  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi – MOVIE BROADCAST PREMIERE – (December 2019)
    Having taken her first steps into a larger world in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga.
  • Returning Series: The Sinner; Roswell, New Mexico; Supergirl; The Magicians; Marvel’s Runaways, and the final season of Mr. Robot.

ABC Spark

  • Motherland: Fort Salem – NEW SERIES (Winter/Spring 2020)
    Set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution over 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the government to fight for their country, Motherland: Fort Salem follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world – but with supernatural tactics and weapons. The series stars Ashley Nicole Williams, Jessica Sutton, Taylor Hickson, Demetria McKinney and Amalia Holm.
  • Everything’s Gonna Be Okay – NEW SERIES (Winter/Spring 2020)
    From Please Like Me creator, writer and star Josh Thomas, the half-hour comedy Everything’s Gonna Be Okay introduces Nicholas (Josh Thomas), a neurotic 25-year-old visiting his single dad and two teenage half-sisters, one of whom is on the autism spectrum. He hasn’t been particularly present in his siblings’ lives, but when their dad reveals that he is terminally ill, the girls have to cope with not only a devastating loss but also the realization that Nicholas is the one who will have to rise to the occasion, move in and hold it all together.

What is Coming to Netflix Canada in June 2019

A third season of DESIGNATED SURVIVOR is coming to Netflix Canada in June 2019. The show, which was cancelled in 2018 by ABC, was soon picked up by Netflix and turned into an original series. Meanwhile, you can also catch the new Netflix original film MURDER MYSTERY, starring Aniston and Adam Sandler. And Jon Favreau is returning to his love of cooking in THE CHEF SHOW, which will feature appearances from his famous Marvel friends. Finally, you can also catch a new season of BLACK MIRROR and the third season of JESSICA JONES.

NANCY DREW: First Look at The CW’s New Mystery Series

Kennedy McMann stars as the titular character in NANCY DREW, an updated version of the beloved books coming to The CW this fall. In the show, Nancy is described as “a brilliant teenaged detective whose sense of self had come from solving mysteries in her hometown of Horseshoe Bay, Maine – until her mother’s untimely death derails Nancy’s college plans.” Now devastated by her mother’s death, Nancy decides to give up crime-solving while re-applying to college. But then a socialite is murdered and Nancy learns that she’s the prime suspect in the case, along with a group of other teens who were present at the scene “Nancy’s nemesis from high school, George Fan (Leah Lewis); a rich girl with a mysterious past, Bess Marvin (Maddison Jaizani); Nancy’s secret boyfriend, Ned “Nick” Nickerson (Tunji Kasim), and amiable burnout Ace (Alex Saxon).”

This leads the five teens to team up and clear their names. In addition, Nancy’s renewed interest in solving crimes “brings her into conflict with her widowed father, Carson Drew (Scott Wolf), who is dating Detective Karen Hart (Alvina August). And, when a supernatural presence begins to haunt Nancy’s investigation, she discovers that the current crime has an astonishing connection to the unsolved murder of a local girl. Whether the ghost is here to help, or hinder Nancy remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: Nancy’s going to have to unravel the clues from both the living and the dead to solve the crimes.”

The CW Announces Fall 2019 Schedule

After NBC, Fox, ABC and CBS, The CW is the fifth and final broadcast network to announce its upcoming fall schedule. The CW only picked up three new shows for next season: BATWOMAN, KATY KEENE and NANCY DREW. In terms of its existing shows, both SUPERNATURAL and ARROW are coming to an end next season, with ARROW only consisting of 10 episodes. There’s also a few changes in the schedule, with All American, Arrow and Charmed moving to new nights. CBS is launching two new drama shows this fall: ALL RISE and EVIL. ALL RISE is a courthouse drama focused on the judges, prosecutors and public defenders as they work with bailiffs, clerks and cops in Los Angeles. “Among them is newly appointed Judge Lola Carmichael, a highly regarded and impressive deputy district attorney who doesn’t intend to sit back on the bench in her new role, but instead leans in, immediately pushing the boundaries and challenging the expectations of what a judge can be.”

ALL RISE stars Simone Missick as Lola Carmichael, Wilson Bethel as Mark Callan, Marg Helgenberger as Judith Benner, Jessica Camacho as Emily Lopez, J. Alex Brinson as Luke Watkins, Lindsay Mendez as Sara Pratt and Ruthie Ann Miles as Sherri Kanski. Greg Spottiswood, Len Goldstein and Michael M. Robin serve as executive producers.

ALL RISE will air Mondays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

Meanwhile, EVIL is described as a “psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. The series focuses on a skeptical female psychologist who joins a priest-in-training and a carpenter as they investigate the Church’s backlog of unexplained mysteries, including supposed miracles, demonic possessions and hauntings. Their job is to assess if there is a logical explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work.”

EVIL stars Katja Herbers as Kristen Bouchard, Mike Colter as David Acosta, Aasif Mandvi as Ben Shroff, Michael Emerson as Leland Townsend, Brooklyn Shuck as Lynn Bouchard, Skylar Gray as Lila Bouchard, Maddy Crocco as Lexis Bouchard and Dalya Knapp as Laura Bouchard. Michelle King, Robert King and Liz Glotzer serve as executive producers.

EVIL airs Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

TOMMY focuses on the first female Chief of Police in Los Angeles. “A true blue New Yorker, Abigail “Tommy” Thomas uses her unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political and national security issues from hindering effective law enforcement in the Southland.”

TOMMY stars Edie Falco as Abigail “Tommy” Thomas, Michael Chernus as Ken Rosey, Adelaide Clemens as Blake Sullivan, David Fierro as Buddy Boyardi, Russell G. Jones as Aurelius Looper, Olivia Lucy Phillip as Kate Jones, and Joseph Lyle Taylor as Treat Dudik. Paul Attanasio, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey serve as executive producers. TOMMY will premiere midseason on CBS.

Finally, FBI: MOST WANTED is described as “a high-stakes drama that focuses on the Fugitive Task Force, which relentlessly tracks and captures the notorious criminals on the Bureau’s Most Wanted list. Seasoned agent Jess LaCroix oversees the highly skilled team that functions as a mobile undercover unit that is always out in the field, pursuing those who are most desperate to elude justice.”

FBI: MOST WANTED stars Julian McMahon as Jess LaCroix, Alana De La Garza as Isobel Castille, Keisha Castle-Hughes as Hana Gibson, Kellan Lutz as Crosby, Roxy Sternberg as Sheryll Barnes and Nathaniel Arcand as Clinton Skye. Dick Wolf, René Balcer, Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski are executive producers. FBI: MOST WANTED will premiere midseason on CBS.

Freeform Upfronts: SIREN Renewed; Watch Trailers for MOTHERLAND: FORT SALEM, PARTY OF FIVE and More

Ahead of its Upfront presentation later today, Freeform released several trailers for new shows and made a few announcements. First, the cable channel announced that SIREN has officially been picked up for a third season. The second half of season 2 will premiere on Thursday, June 13.

Freeform released a trailer for MOTHERLAND: FORT SALEM, the show is set in “an alternate America where witches ended their persecution over 300 years ago by cutting a deal with the government to fight for their country.” It “follows three young women from basic training in combat magic into early deployment. In this world, the traditional roles of gender and power are flipped, with the more dominant women on the front lines fighting looming terrorist threats that are familiar to our world—but with supernatural tactics and weapons.” The show stars Ashley Nicole Williams, Jessica Sutton, Taylor Hickson, Demetria McKinney and Amalia Holm.

A trailer was also released for PARTY OF FIVE. The reboot series will “follow the five Acosta children as they navigate daily life struggles to survive as a family unit after their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico.” The series stars Brandon Larracuente, Emily Tosta, Niko Guardado and Elle Paris Legaspi.

Finally, a trailer was released for EVERYTHING’S GONNA BE OKAY. The show “introduces Nicholas (Josh Thomas), a neurotic 25-year-old visiting his single dad and two teenage half-sisters, one of whom is on the autism spectrum. He hasn’t been particularly present in his siblings’ lives, but when their dad reveals that he is terminally ill, the girls have to cope with not only a devastating loss but also the realization that Nicholas is the one who will have to rise to the occasion, move in and hold it all together.”
