The Most Popular Witches on TV

December 17, 2018 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

If you asked anyone to name a couple of witches they have seen on TV, they’ll be able to do so with relative ease. This is because over the years witches and TV have gone pretty much hand in hand, with witches being mysterious and capable of doing magic. This has seen witches become popular in other areas too such as games, with mFortune’s Which Witch being a prime example. Today we’re looking at popular witches to appear on TV, so keep reading for our list below.

Charmed
We start with a TV show and a triple whammy of witches in Charmed. Three sisters, who all live in San Francisco, all possess magical powers unique to them. Prue has telekinetic powers and builds on this to become the strongest and most powerful of the trio. Piper can freeze her surroundings and make things explode, while Phoebe has the power of premonition and levitation. They’re three witches with style, who were extremely popular with viewers.

Samantha – Bewitched
Taking things back a good few years, Samantha was the lead character in arguably the most iconic witch related TV show on all time. Samantha, who possessed great powers, yearned to integrate into normal every day life. She married a normal man and used her abilities to attempt to solve situations that arose, often causing further trouble. Samantha portrayed the good side to witches, and this helped her become one of the most loved witches to ever appear on TV.

Sabrina – Sabrina The Teenage Witch
You could say that Sabrina is a character who was created with a bit of inspiration taken from Samantha and Bewitched. Again, Sabrina offered viewers a more light-hearted and fun version of a witch, rather than focusing on the evil side that is often portrayed in other TV shows and movies. At 16, Sabrina’s powers kick in, and she goes on to use her spells in her everyday life, although things don’t always go as planned. She’s a witch that most people will remember, especially those around during the airing of the hit TV show.

Willow – Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Willow wasn’t the lead character in Buffy the Vampire slayer, but she was always integral to Buffy’s success at defeating foes. Willow studied witchcraft and by the end of the second series of the show, she proved herself more than capable of assisting Buffy when it came to defeating enemies using the supernatural powers she had learned. While Buffy was always centre stage, Willow was always there to save the day in many respects, with her spells proving crucial at times.

Melisandre – Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is by far and away one of the greatest TV shows of all time, and every viewer will be able to recall Melisandre, a woman with serious magical powers. While the show features a lot of supernatural and fantasy action, Melisandre is more witch like, as seen when she removed a necklace that saw her transform into an old woman in season 6. She’s a witch that people are still yet to understand in full, and one of the most intriguing to appear on TV.

NCIS: NEW ORLEANS Sneak Preview: Who Do What Voodoo

Most viewers of THE ORIGINALS or THE VAMPIRE DIARIES would not be surprised to learn that the largest concentration of the religion Vodun is in New Orleans. Never heard of Vodun? You probably have, just by another name. When slaves from Africa’s Benin region brought their religion, Vodun, on slave ships, their religion became intertwined with Catholic practices to form the Creole version of Vodun, also called Louisiana Voodoo. There are frequent visitors to the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum and NOLA’s St. Louis Cemetery to visit Marie Laveau’s tomb.

Laveau was known as the ‘Voodoo Queen’ of New Orleans, and tourists and residents alike visit her tomb to make a wish at one of the most haunted spots in the Big Easy. The legends and traditions of voodoo should come as no surprise to Dwayne Pride (Scott Bakula) who has been walking the fine line between the living and dead ever since his near-death experience where he picked up an ethereal traveler whose intent remains to be seen. Whether she is an angel, a reaper, a recurring nightmare or a figment of brain damage incurred during his brush with death, remains unclear.

To try to get a grip on his situation, Pride turns to his friend, Commander Calvin Atkins, M.D. (Geoffrey Owens), for medical and spiritual guidance as he struggles with the ramifications of his unexplained visions. If the supernatural is not your cup of tea, even on Halloween Eve, feel free to consider a ghoul…and not the type you see on SUPERNATURAL.

When Pride’s assistant, Ginny Young (Christina Smith), escapes from a kidnapper, the NCIS: NEW ORLEANS team uncovers evidence of a suspect who is harvesting organs from multiple victims…a ghoulish enterprise if done by force.

Join the walking dead (real and costumed) as ghosts, goblins and ghouls parade down Bourbon Street tonight on NCIS: NEW ORLEANS. Guest starring on tonight’s episode, “Pound of Flesh,” are Danny Burstein, Joe Carroll, Karen Obilom, Rebecca Haden, Joaquin Montes, Nicholas Bordelon, Samantha Smith and Taneka Johnson. “Pound of Flesh was written by Ron McGee and directed by James Whitmore, Jr.

NCIS: NEW ORLEANS airs tonight (October 30) at 10:00 p.m ET/PT on CBS in the U.S. and at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT on Global TV in Canada.

CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA: Go Behind the Scenes of the new Netflix Series

October 22, 2018 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

Sabrina Spellman is a “daughter of night”, according to the behind the scenes featurette above. The new Netflix series, CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA, tells the tale of the 16 year old witch who is torn between the supernatural world of her family and the normal world of her human friends. On her 16th birthday she is “faced with the decision of signing her name in the Book of the Beast,” according to star Kiernan Shipka. Torn between two worlds, she must choose which path to take: that of a witch or that of a mortal. There’s also monsters and a Dark Lord and a horror vibe to this series that the original 1990s show didn’t have. The show also features many “powerful women that are unapologetic in their fierceness,” says Michelle Gomez.

In the sneak peek above we see Sabrina asking her aunts if they can postpone her witch baptism — a nod to the fact that she’s not eager to give up her mortal side, especially where her boyfriend is concerned. Her aunts, as you can imagine, don’t have a happy reaction to any of this.

CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA debuts on Netflix on Friday, October 26.
