THE FLASH: The Cast Teases Dibny’s Attempt at Being a Hero and the Search for DeVoe

November 14, 2017 By Clarissa Leave a Comment

Can Ralph Dibny become a superhero on THE FLASH? Barry is going to do his best to try and convince the former detective that he can use his new metahuman powers for good. But given Ralph’s general laissez-faire nature, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he’s not necessarily serious about his new job.

During a recent visit to the set of THE FLASH in Vancouver, we spoke to the cast about Dibyy’s first attempt at being a superhero, the “council of Wells”, and the search of DeVoe that comes up in this week’s episode.

The Search for DeVoe. Barry is determined to figure out who DeVoe is and try to get ahead of his nemesis. A discovery about DeVoe will be made tonight and, according to Grant Gustin (Barry Allen/The Flash), “it’s going to get dirty quick, and before it gets dirty [Barry] wants to get ahead of this guy. And then [the team stars] to realize what a challenging foe he’s going to be and different than any other speedsters we’ve faced in the past. He’s not a speedster, he’s something we’ve never seen before. Things are going to take a dark turn quickly in the middle of the year.” Gustin also hinted that “we have the bus metas and DeVoe created all of them. And they all have to do with his plan. None of this was an accident. We don’t realize that at first but we start to see everything’s connected and we don’t know why he needs all these people and why he did this to them.”

The Council of Wells. The search for DeVoe leads Harry to call upon some of his friends — all of whom are different versions of himself from other Earths. When asked about this “Council of Wells”, Tom Cavanaugh (Harrison Wells) joked that “This show will come and run its course, or it will be like SSUPERNATURAL and never end. And, then it will all be done, but at least we will have this stamp of shamelessness. With the Council of Wells, I will always be able to point to that and go, ‘Look at this exercise in egotism that we managed to pull off’. Unfortunately, for Brent Crowell, who is our production manager, it was his first time directing this show. He got saddled with having to tolerate me not playing just one character, or two characters which I normally do, but playing a multitude of characters, each one worse than the next. But, only if you line them up that way.”

Dibny’s First Hero Quest. “The learning curve from zero to hero is a pretty big one [for Dibny],” Hartley Sawyer (Ralph Dibny) said. “It takes most of the episode for him to get there. It’s tricky because Ralph was not, you know, a bad guy but has just gone on this path. And so coming back from that has been tricky. And also kind of the animosity with Barry has been tricky for him too, but it’s given us a lot of opportunities to play off of that.” Sawyer went on to preview that “It’s all fun and games for him with the powers and being a hero, and how hard could it be to be a superhero and how much accountability could there be? But you can’t save everybody. You can’t do everything all the time. And so when when people get hurt, Ralph does feel that. And he is aware of that. And that’s not an easy thing for him to digest and live with and take on the responsibility of knowing that if I make the wrong decision or a different decision that people can get hurt.”

Dibny’s Superhero Suit. As you can see from the preview below, Dibney isn’t thrilled about the suit that Cisco makes for him. “It’s a little hard to get into, but it’s fun to wear actually. It does not leave much to the imagination, but putting it on is fun and it lends itself to a lot of comedy, a lot of moments there with that, Sawyer said. But the suit will “go through an evolution. He will get a better suit. A different suit. Maybe not better. It’s very, very different.” Carlos Valdes (Cisco Ramon/Vibe) hinted that “over time, [Dibny] does really get frustrated with the stylistic limitations of the suit, so it’s possible that Cisco might design something a little more, how do you say, aesthetically pleasing.”

Fallout for Killer Frost. At the end of the last episode we saw Caitlin/Killer Frost escape from Amunet, who isn’t too happy with her former employee. Danielle Panabaker (Dr. Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost) hinted that “Amunet still has plans for Killer Frost. I think Killer Frost is pretty valuable, could be used as a pretty valuable weapon, and I think Amunet would be interested in taking advantage of that. And it’s not the last time we see Amunet try and use Killer Frost/Caitlin Snow to her advantage.” Panabaker hinted that there might be some additional internal strife to come between Caitlin and her alter ego: “I think what becomes very clear is that Caitlin doesn’t have complete control over when Killer Frost takes over and vice versa — Killer Frost doesn’t have control over when Caitlin takes over, either. So, they are both inside of Caitlin and battling to sort of see who can come to the surface. Killer Frost obviously wishes she could be in charge, and Caitlin likes being in charge, too.”

Don’t miss an all new episode of THE FLASH tonight (November 14) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

NCIS Sneak Peek: Auditory Oddities

There is a great exchange between Cary Grant and Myrna Loy in THE BACHELOR AND THE BOBBY-SOXER that goes like this…

Grant: Hey, you remind me of a man.
Loy: What man?
Grant: Man with the power.
Loy: What power?
Grant: Power of hoodoo.
Loy: Hoodoo?
Grant: You do.
Loy: Do what?
Grant: Remind me of a man…

Considering how many people confuse “hoodoo” with “voodoo” (aka “vodou” or “vodoun”), one can see why Gibbs (Mark Harmon) is confounded tonight on NCIS.

While Gibbs may have picked up some tips on Louisiana Vodoun while visiting NCIS: NEW ORLEANS, or by hanging out with NOLA native, Abby (Pauley Perrette), when referencing the talking dead body as “voodoo,” it is doubtful that Jethro assumes it is either hoodoo (magic) or voodoo/vodou/vodoun (a religion).

Something more along the lines of a scam, perhaps? Possibly. But the skeleton seems opinionated for a dead person.

Not only is the dead body in the shed speaking to a runner, Amber Davis (guest star Laura Regan), but given the current decomposed state of the deceased, it stands to reason that he is telling her that he is cold. Whatever this is, voices from beyond the grave have at least one NCIS team member spooked.

Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) is on board with giving the incident some credence, while Ducky (David McCallum), McGee (Sean Murray), Palmer (Brian Dietzen) and Bishop (Emily Wickersham) are more skeptical.

Ducky goes so far as to question the woman’s mental stability.

But, what about Gibbs? His mental stability rarely wavers, but Fearless Leader has had more than one encounter in the past with the dearly-departed, whether he chooses to disclose it or not.

Remember the chilling scene on the tarmac when Dorneget’s body returned home to be greeted by the ghosts of Caitlin, Pacci, Jenny, Cassidy and Mike Franks? Or all the other times that Mike has come back to give his probie some guidance?

Looks like Mike thinks that Jethro may need some wise words again tonight when Muse Watson returns to play the fabulous Franks. Maybe while he is back on this side of the veil, Mike can dispense a few words of wisdom to McGee who is pushing Delilah to find out the sex of the baby. Bad idea, Tim.

Perhaps the dearly departed can give NCIS a lead on the bribery, fraud or murder surrounding the case.

Can someone give Gibbs the phone number for Sam and Dean Winchester over at SUPERNATURAL on The CW? They are experts on hoodoo and voodoo, and they know a few things about scams.

Plus they remind me of a man…

Other guest stars on tonight’s episode of NCIS, “Voices,” are Ben Begley, Tom Degnan, Gino Montesinos and David Pevsner. “Voices” was written by Steven D. Binder and directed by Tony Wharmby.

NCIS airs tonight (November 14) at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS (U.S.) and on Global TV (Canada).

It’s almost Halloween, and sometimes, it’s not the goblins that come to haunt us. Sometimes, it’s our past, and the truth is out there tonight on NCIS.

For the famous and the infamous, there is nothing like the internet to provide entertainment, at their expense, by dredging up old photos in Pebbles haircuts or platform shoes to remind them of their checkered pasts.

Imagine that you are a celebrity. Like millions of Grandma Sadies who just “happen” to have humiliating photos of you that she shows to your new boyfriend or girlfriend while you’re in the kitchen, memes can pop up to humiliate you in front of the world.

While I was waiting for CBS publicity to post clips this week, I decided to look for some old photos of the NCIS cast to see if they were meme-worthy. I found a few interesting ones, which are in the photo gallery above. But don’t get your hopes up…the only embarrassing one is the McGee photo from this week’s episode, which I suspect may have been doctored to propel the plot on tonight’s “Fake It ‘Til You Make It.”

There was not a bad picture to be found. I guess when you look like the NCIS cast, even your most embarrassing photos are still amazing, so be sure to check out the slideshow. Unfortunately, a bad hair day often is not the worst thing to haunt us. The writers are fleshing out the new characters quite nicely this season, and looks like MI6’s Clayton Reeves (Duane Henry) gets another layer of his life exposed.

According to the press release, “After Reeves sees his friend get kidnapped, the NCIS team discovers the primary suspect disappeared two days ago with confidential military information.” But Clay’s friendship with Melissa (THE MENTALIST’s Samaire Armstrong) may not be the most compromising layer pulled back on the onion of Clayton’s life…Abby (Pauley Perrette) discovers that he is a “friend of Bill’s.”

For those who don’t get the reference (or watch a lot of LAW & ORDER), Bill Wilson was the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, and those who attend weekly AA meetings often refer to themselves as a “friend of Bill’s” or “friend of Bill W.)

And so, as with onions, the best part often is revealed as the outer layers are pulled back.

Be sure to check out the gallery where you will see an embarrassing photo from McGee’s (Sean Murray) teenage years which becomes a popular meme, along with real photos of Murray and the other NCIS cast members from years ago.

Full disclosure: a couple of the photos claim to be of cast members, but I’m not convinced. You decide.

NCIS also stars Mark Harmon (in a couple of great shots in the gallery), Emily Wickersham (from her modeling days), Wilmer Valderrama in a leisure suit from THAT 70’S SHOW), Maria Bello (from her COYOTE UGLY days), Rocky Carroll (from CHICAGO HOPE), Brian Dietzen (in a multiple of non-Palmer looks) and Duane Henry who could challenge Dietzen to an 8-pack competition.

There’s even a picture of the camera-shy director, Thomas J. Wright, who got kudos on my Facebook page for his incredible work on last week’s SUPERNATURAL, so check that out.

Guest stars on “Fake It ‘Til You Make It” are one of our KNOTS LANDING buddies, Ted Shackelford, Ashley Jones, John Laughlin, Yolanda Snowball, Ryan Radis and Paloma Rabinov.

NCIS airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on CBS in the States and on Global TV in Canada.
