On the Scene with THE CLOSER as they Celebrate 100 Episodes… and Beyond!

August 29, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 4 Comments

The long running TNT series about a uniquely persuasive police investigator who “closes” cases simply by eliciting confessions, THE CLOSER stars Kyra Sedgwick along with her charming and more often than not hilarious castmates who make up the sterling ensemble, which includes Jon Tenney, Corey Reynolds, Robert Gossett, G.W. Bailey, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Philip P. Keene, Jonathan Del Arco and J.K. Simmons.  New to the series and taking over the spotlight as Kyra exits the series is Mary McDonnell, who will helm the spinoff series MAJOR CRIMES, which debuts next year.

In a television landscape bursting with police procedurals, what distinguishes THE CLOSER is not only its razor-sharp writing, but also its ability to imbue its characters with loving detail that elevates and compliments the stories without become fully immersed into their private lives.  The delicate balance of crime and companionship makes it addictive.  Being the highest rated cable series for five years in a row, averaging more than 8 million viewers, THE CLOSER is a proven success and fan-favorite.  When it first debuted with Kyra Sedgwick as its focal star, it was unprecedented, but a risk that paid off handsomely and one which other networks have tried to emulate.

Now in its 7th season and making its way towards its series finale, which airs mid-summer 2012, the show took time out to celebrate its upcoming 100th episode and its phenomenal success.  On August 27th, the cast, producers, writers and other select guests celebrated at the Universal Sheraton where they took a few moments to chat with the press and pose for pictures.  Being invited to such a wonderful event, theTVaddict.com had the opportunity to talk with a few of the show’s stars, including Kyra Sedgwick, Corey Reynolds, Robert Gossett, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan and Jonathan Del Arco. Who Killed TORCHWOOD? A Look At How The Popular Sci-Fi Show Has Lost Its Way

August 26, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 14 Comments

After last week’s controversial episode of TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY, the question that haunted us was not whether it was okay to torture a man to death if he cannot die, but rather:  who killed TORCHWOOD?  For a show that fans had been clamoring for and which cheered when it was announced that it had risen from certain death and cancellation by the joint financial efforts of Starz and BBC America to resurrect it as an American television series, who knew that within such a short timeframe that one would be wishing it had never been raised from the dead.

The irony is that TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY tells the tale of what the world would look like if death ceased to exist.  Miracle Day was the day that people stopped dying.  Death had finally abandoned us and left the entire human race to rot for eternity.  The blessing soon became a curse and TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY sought to show how horrifying never-ending life can be.

But with only 10 episodes granted for this miraculous fourth season of TORCHWOOD, and seven episodes having aired to date, I found myself thinking something appalling:  I wish it had never come back. [Read more…]

August 25, 2011 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

As the first season of EXPEDITION IMPOSSIBLE comes to a close, and after a season filled with danger, disaster and displays of remarkable courage, host Dave Salmoni reflects back on what made this season so special for him.  With both the good and the difficult marking this past season, Dave thought that, for him, what made the whole adventure so extraordinary was sharing the experience with everyone.  He explained that the greatest part of it was, “It was like a big camping trip with my friends — that it was my job was a bonus! I felt like I was camping in the mountains. The contestants were great and I enjoyed becoming friends with them. And the crew, they were my type of people. We had a great time!” [Read more…]

The DOCTOR Is In: We Preview WHO’s Return with Star Karen Gillan

August 25, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

In anticipation of the much-anticipated return of DOCTOR WHO, theTVaddict.com’s West Coast Correspondent Tiffany Vogt recently had the chance to sit down (alongside a gaggle of reporters) with star Karen Gillan, who was only too happy to tease what’s in store for fans as the show kicks off the second half of its sixth season this Saturday.

So we’re in the midst of the 6th season, which is very exciting, and when we last left off, there had just been the big reveal that River Song is Amy and Rory’s daughter and that she had been kidnapped again.  Is there anything you can share about what to expect for the second half of the 6th season?
KAREN:  Well, after that massive revelation of the last series — that relationship between Amy and River is definitely going to be explored  — a lot!  So that’s been really fun actually.  That relationship really, really develops and it changes the dynamic for everyone in the cast.  So that’s really big.  And also “Let’s Kill Hitler.”  What a title?!  It’s amazing and it’s such a good episode.  I think that you’ll like it.  It’s really cool.  It’s got a cool robot villain called the Teselecta, which is really snazzy. Killing Hitler! John Barrowman! Neil Gaiman! We Delve Deep into the World of DOCTOR WHO with Star Matt Smith

August 24, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt 1 Comment

In anticipation of the much-anticipated return of DOCTOR WHO, theTVaddict.com’s West Coast Correspondent Tiffany Vogt recently had the chance to sit down (alongside a gaggle of reporters) with star Matt Smith, who was only too happy to tease what’s in store for fans as the show kicks off the second half of its sixth season this Saturday.

How was it dying and then coming back on a television show, like in “The Impossible Astronaut”?
MATT:  Only in DOCTOR WHO can you make that possible!  I just love the way that Steven [Moffat] plays with time and structure in WHO — and in the next half of the series we really get into the crux of what that is all about and it’s pretty interesting.

How would you describe The Doctor?
MATT:  I think I’m very fortunate to have Steven Moffat as a writer.  He’s very inventive. That’s quite a tricky question because I try not to consider it too much.  I just try to do it.  Maybe in a few years I’ll have more of a perspective on it.  But I think The Doctor should be funny and brilliant and ridiculous — all of those things are in there somewhere.
