THE NEWSROOM Season 2: More Interoffice Politics, Political Scandals, and Good Old-Fashioned Dirty Politics

July 14, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

For a show entitled THE NEWSROOM, this HBO drama series is really more about the behind-the-scenes issues and relationships about those who try to broadcast the news than the news itself.  As was hotly debated in the first season, what constitutes “news” is a slippery-slope between tabloid journalism, politics and personal opinions.  But regardless of what qualifies, this series is at its best when it focuses on the stories in the lives of those who determine what is the news and the struggles they deal with day in and out to bring those stories to the airwaves. FALLING SKIES Preview: A Spy Is Revealed

July 14, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

In tonight’s new episode of FALLING SKIES, the question that has been hovering on everyone’s minds will be answered: who is the mole?  For weeks, we have seen the destruction wrought by the spy in their midst, including the death of Arthur Manchester (Terry O’Quinn).  With suspicions running high since both Tom (Noah Wyle) and his son Hal (Drew Roy) have been discovered to have had eye bugs infecting them at one point or another, the spy could literally be anyone.  Some are still suspicious that even Tom or Hal could still be an unknowing spy for the enemy — after all, they are the ones who have had the most contact with Karen (Jessy Schram) and she is definitely not herself these days either. CONTINUUM Chatter: Stars Rachel Nichols, Victor Webster and EP Simon Barry Talk The Challenges of Season 2

July 12, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

continuum cast

Taking a successful sci-fi series from its first season to its second is not easy and yet the Syfy series CONTINUUM managed the transition seamlessly. The series explores the modern day challenges of suddenly having travelers from our future thrust into our midst with opposing agendas: one wants to change the future and the other wants to maintain the status quo to ensure that she has a future to return to one day.  But in the world on CONTINUUM there are layers upon layers of mystery as to who is really controlling the fate of the future and what their true motives are.  At the end of the first season, it was revealed that Kiera Cameron’s (Rachel Nichols) mentor Alex Sadler (Erik Knudsen) had purposely sent her back in time and yet we are still unclear if he wants the future preserved as badly as Kiera does. In a press conference call, stars Rachel Nichols, Victor Webster and executive producer Simon Barry gave some insight into the conflicting motivations and how it effects the relationships of the characters this season. We Shine the Spotlight on MOTIVE’s Tenacious Detective Kristin Lehman

July 11, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Kristin-Lehman-Motive

Introducing one of this summer’s intriguing new police dramas, ABC debuted the new Canadian series MOTIVE starring Kristin Lehman, who plays Detective Angie Flynn.  The twist of the series is that it introduces the killer and the victim right away and then slowly ties their stories together to show how even normal people get caught up in events beyond their control.  How circumstances can make literally anyone a murder.  For Detective Flynn, digging into each crime reveals the crucial link of motive.  What drives people to do what they do and at what point does it drive them to commit a crime of such a serious nature.  In a recent exclusive interview, Kristin Lehman candidly shared her thoughts on what drives her character and what she most admires about this kind of intriguing role. Comic Con Cable: You’re Invited to Party with the Cast of HAVEN

July 10, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Returning for its fourth season on September 13th, the Syfy show HAVEN is a thrilling supernatural series based on the short story “The Colorado Kid” by Stephen King. The King of Horror had a spine-chilling idea that germinated into a television series and created something quasi-horror, quasi-mystery, and definitely very supernatural — enough to make your skin crawl and your mind wonder what kind of world you just discovered.

The series focuses on a town inhabited by “troubled” folk. Many, if not all, are afflicted by some sort of supernatural ability. Some are thrilled to discover their new-found power and abuse it relentlessly. Others are shocked and horrified and strive to appear as normal as possible, so that they can go about their un-normal lives inconspicuously. But most cannot control their abilities and events frequently spiral out of control.

Summoned to investigate in the mysterious goings on in Haven, Maine, FBI agent Audrey Parker (Emily Rose) discovered, much to her surprise, that she too may be one of the “troubled” — and may have lived a past lives in Haven under the names of Lucy and Sarah. Compelled by her own murky history and driven to unravel what is going on in Haven, Audrey is inexplicably drawn to Haven — even so much so to give up her FBI position and remain in Haven as part of its local law enforcement. Working with the local sheriff and her partner Nathan Wuornos (Lucas Bryant), as well as the unconventional aid of the town smuggler and resident “bad boy” Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour), Audrey finds unique ways to assist or stop the “troubled” of Haven. The third season finale left fans gasping as Audrey and Duke disappeared into a bright flash of light (presumably transported into the future), with Nathan left shot and dying.  To say fans are a little excited about the 4th season is putting it mildly.  So this is their chance to try to pry a few secrets and teasers out of the cast at San Diego Comic-Con.

As a special reward for fans and to lure new fans, HAVEN is making an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con with a fan party at the Sidebar nightclub on Thursday, July 18th and an panel on Friday, July 19th (3:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Room 6DE).

For those interested in attending the Sidebar party, be sure to stop by the Entertainment One booth (4021/4023) in the Exhibit Hall on Thursday, July 18th. Here is the information about the party itself: [Read more…]

THE BRIDGE: Introducing FX’s Hot New Murder Mystery

July 10, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

From the initial moments of the new series THE BRIDGE, it becomes apparent that there is something more than a mere murder going on.  For one, the body has been carefully placed, half in Mexico and half in the U.S., on the bridge connecting the two countries at the border.  Better yet, at each step of the investigation, a new significant surprise awaits. It also leads to a very thorny political issue of why U.S. crimes are pursued more diligently than crimes right across the border in Mexico.  The killer is not intent on simply killing, he has a very dark message; one which he uses many disturbing methods to convey. Are Unruly Movie Theatres Turning Us Into Even Bigger TV Addicts?

July 8, 2013 By Tiffany Vogt 2 Comments

While theatre etiquette isn’t exactly a topic that falls within theTVaddict.com’s usual bailiwick, a series of unfortunate events has inspired our west coast correspondent Tiffany Vogt to voice her displeasure about recent movie-going experiences. Experiences that this TV Addict believes are not only ruining an increasingly costly night spent at the cinema, but continue to contribute to our willingness to stay home and enjoy all forms of entertainment in the comfort of our own home.

Ever since cellphones began making their way into movie theaters, the conflict began.  It started with teenagers wanting to share their reactions during movies with friends via texting or Facebook updates. Then a curious thing happened, adults embraced the immediacy of cellphone communication as well, which allowed them to keep tabs on their unsupervised children left at home or to keep in touch with spouses and business associates while attending movies.  An entire subculture of people cropped up overnight that were so addicted to communicating via text, email, Facebook/Twitter that they could not bear to turn off their phone – even while watching a movie.  [Read more…]
