In the new Lifetime drama series DEVIOUS MAIDS, executive producers Marc Cherry and Eva Longoria hope that lightning will strike twice, making their new series a must-see event for television viewers everywhere.  The difference being that whereas their former series DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES focused on the lives of women of means living every day life on Wisteria Lane, this time the focus is on five women who cater to the every day whims of the rich and famous of Beverly Hills.  It is the flipside of the good life — and life on the other side of the kitchen door is not easy.  It sometimes means taking literal abuse while trying to endure the daily grind of living as a virtual slave to others. Star William Fichtner and EPs Ed Bernero and Rola Bauer Preview NBC’s CROSSING LINES

International intrigue is the name of the game in the new NBC series CROSSING LINES.  When a serial killer picking off women all across Europe, the International Criminal Court (ICC) creates a special unit to investigate crimes that cross international boundaries.  Starring the illustrious Donald Sutherland as the ICC leader backing this unusual venture, along with William Fichtner as the American criminal profiler brought out of retirement to track down the most insidious of evil doers, the special crimes unit moves quickly to contain the threats that international boundaries normally cannot contain or prevent investigation.  In a recent press conference call, star William Fichtner and executive producers Ed Bernero and Rola Bauer talked about filming all across Europe to bring authenticity to the series and what hidden secrets will be revealed as the series goes along. TV NOW: How Important is the “Water-Coolerness” Factor for Today’s Television?

With the rapidly changing face of television (in the way it is consumed and the way it is made available), it is hard to define just what is “television” today.  Viewers are watching shows both on traditional television sets and online, via smartphones, tablets and other devices.  Viewers are also refusing to be locked into the traditional model of primetime timeslots and are choosing instead to use DVRs, On Demand, and using online options to watch shows any time they want.  So with the medium of television becoming more fluid and esoteric, it also begs the question: how important is the “water cooler” factor anymore?  Do viewers feel compelled to watch TV shows at scheduled times in order to be a part of the global conversation, or are they okay with the hot topic of the day passing them by? It’s not all about just the 4-day star-studded event anymore; it is about the anticipation that builds in the weeks preceding, as fans salivate at the prospect of acquiring exclusives and catching a glimpse of their favorite stars.  San Diego Comic-Con is the oldest reigning fan event, dating back over 30 years – and if there is one thing they have mastered it is the art of building anticipation.

Very few shows make it to their seventh season and even fewer manage to successfully spinoff into a new show sustaining their original premise and audience.  But TNT’s hot series THE CLOSER morphed into the new series MAJOR CRIMES, taking a majority of its core cast with it.  One of the lucky cast members who made the transition along with it was star Phillip P.
