BURN NOTICE Scoop: Matt Nix Explains the Tragic Death That Rocks Michael Westen’s World

August 2, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Killing beloved characters on a TV show is always risky.  It can invoke the ire of loyal fans, but it can also be the catalyst to propel a story forward.  BURN NOTICE was always premised on a CIA agent getting “burned” and then stuck in Miami with his mother and his ex-girlfriend.  Fortunately, in the six seasons since that pivotal moment, BURN NOTICE found a way to make Miami “home” for Michael and its avid audience.  The escapades of Michael, Fiona and Sam, which later included Madeline and Jesse, has made the show like family for viewers.  We cheered as they championed the little guy getting kicked around and saved countless lives.  We also rooted for Michael as he fought valiantly to clear his name and make the responsible parties pay for his predicament.   And we fell in love with Michael and Fiona and their blossoming relationship.

Throughout all the adventures, there was always a strong undercurrent of love and family.  So when one of the family is struck down, it is a blow to the gut as well as the heart.  In last week’s heart-breaking episode, Michael’s brother Nate was caught in the crossfire.  It was the loss of part of our BURN NOTICE family and we mourn for Michael’s loss.  In a recent conference call, creator and producer Matt Nix talked about the decision to take the show to such a dark place and make such a sacrifice so close to home. TCA 2012: An Evening Celebrating the Success of DOWNTON ABBEY

August 1, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

DOWNTON ABBEY, which currently filming its 3rd season and just nominated for 16 Emmys (including Best Drama Series, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor), was celebrated at the recent PBS Summer 2012 Press Tour at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on July 21, 2012.

Attending from “across the pond” were cast members: Hugh Bonneville (“Robert Crawley”), Elizabeth McGovern (“Cora Crawley”), Michelle Dockery (“Mary Crawley”), Brendan Coyle (“John Bates”), Joanne Froggatt (“Anna Smith Bates”), Shirley MacLaine (“Martha Levinson”), along with Julian Fellowes (creator, writer and executive producer) and Gareth Neame (executive producer).  Introduced and moderated by Rebecca Eaton (series executive producer of PBS MASTERPIECE), the evening’s panel was filled with hilarity and mutual joy – a rare feat for any show brought before the highly critical Television Critic’s Association.

To get the party started, there was a special screening of a highlight reel of TV shows that have parodied the series, followed by an exclusive sneak peek of scenes from the upcoming third season of DOWNTON ABBEY.  If that was not enough to get everyone salivating at the prospect of learning more juicy tidbits about what the show has in store for its worldwide fans, as the cast was introduced, each seemed to exude such happy confidence that the entire room was immediately under their thrall.  It was an unusual night of blissful contentment and unexpected comedy.

The following are a few of the fun things learned during the panel as the cast and producers could barely conceal their giddy-glee and the audience sat in rapt attention: [Read more…]

July 30, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

In the Syfy dramedy series WAREHOUSE 13, the golden rule seems to be “anything goes.”  The show does not conform to strict drama guidelines and there is plenty of comedy and outrageous antics lacing its darker stories.  This season, they decided to go darker than they have ever dared before and are treading the line very carefully in order to introduce a special new villain, Brother Adrian, deliciously portrayed by Brent Spiner.  In a recent press call, executive producer Jack Kenny and Brent Spiner provided some humorous and candid responses to what to expect from Brother Adrian and the 4th season of WAREHOUSE 13.
