It’s official: Like mustard on a hot dog, TV is just better with Twitter. Especially when we’re talking about a really long and overblown AMERICAN IDOL finale which was made almost (operative word here being almost) bearable thanks to our twitter stream. No really, if AMERICAN IDOL was even a fraction as entertaining as our twitter stream, well, let’s just say we’re starting to see what CBS was thinking when they decided to turn @sh*tmydadsays into a sitcom. Don’t believe us? Check out some of our favorite funny followers after the jump.

NIKITA: Right Show, Wrong Network?
Is the CW making a mistake of MELROSIAN proportions? That’s the question we find ourselves pondering since last week’s announcement that had the perennial fifth place network unveil NIKITA (a reboot of the 90’s action-thriller LA FEMME NIKITA) as the centerpiece of their Fall 2010 Schedule.
Now, don’t get us wrong. On a personal level, we can’t wait to watch Hong Kong superstar Maggie Q (Mission Impossible III, Live Free or Die Hard) kick some serious bad guy butt, not to mention look forward to welcoming her supporting cast of small screen favorites such as ER’s Shane West and THE OC’s Melinda Clarke back into our living room on a weekly basis. That said, it’s hard to ignore the CW’s not so stellar track record when it comes to tapping into cash cows that were once iconic 90’s series.

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with THE GOOD GUYS Creator Matt Nix
BURN NOTICE and the USA network in general are (excuse the pun) on fire right now. Do you think there’s something of a national mood that wants to see these funny cops versus more serious procedural dramas?
Matt Nix: Let me say I certainly hope so. I think that both kinds of shows have a place and there’s certainly room in the entertainment universe for cop shows that do more of a kind of dire, dramatic or even horror-filled kind of crime-solving. That said, in talking to people who respond to the kind of thing that I’m doing, a lot of people respond to the fact they they’re essentially upbeat shows. That’s an unintentional pun, but it’s true of BURN NOTICE as well. It’s a good-guys-win show. Whatever narrative twists there are at work, there might be a sympathetic bad guy you’re sort of rooting for, whatever interesting twists we’re throwing in or things that are unusual, at the end of the day, you’re coming out of that show feeling good about what happened.
One of the things that really surprised me about BURN NOTICE and I would hope for with THE GOOD GUYS as well, they turned into kind of family shows. I didn’t really think of it that way, but as it turned out, it’s something that people feel comfortable watching with their kids because it’s essentially upbeat. At the end of the days there’s nothing to explain to the children, that there’s not a profound shaking of worldview. I think there’s room for that.

The Backflip
Here’s hoping Jason cleared that move with the producers. Otherwise, I can only imagine a few of them having coronaries at the thought of a contestant breaking his neck. Two words: Liability. Insurance.
The “Right Reasons” Box
At this point, the folks behind the scenes of this show know that the audience isn’t actually looking for Ali to find love. Instead, most are turning in for the drama. So why not crank it up by having a bunch of semi-intoxicated, desperate-for-attention guys secretly vote on which one of them isn’t there for the right reasons? Despite the show’s attempt to make it look as if someone else might be the “winner”, it seemed pretty obvious the wrestler would get the most votes. Good for Ali for keeping him… the guy actually comes off as a lot more genuine than some of his haters.

Are COUGAR TOWN & NEW CHRISTINE a match made in timeslot heaven? We make the case!
With rumors running rampant that the team behind THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE are feverishly working behind-the-scenes to ensure their highly underrated sitcom finds a new home on ABC after being unceremoniously dumped by CBS after five seasons of consistent laughter, we thought now might be as good a time as any to remind the Alphabet Network just how much Old Christine and Jules have in common. See our handy little chart, scientific proof if you will, after the jump.
