Ask the Addict: KNIGHT RIDER, BROTHER & SISTERS, DEXTER, Michael Ausiello & More!
I heard a rumor that PUSHING DAISIES is done as a series and seeing as you are the most in the know person I know. Is this true? Or have I been bamboozled? — Dan B.
The TV Addict: The facts are these. People stopped using the term Bamboozled in 1931. But seriously, as dreadful as PUSHING DAISIES’ ratings have been — and they have been dreadful. ABC has yet to bury the show six feet under. Which is why if you really, and I mean really care about the fate of Ned, Chuck, Olive and Emerson you will be sure to not only tune into a brand new episode of PUSHING DAISIES at 8PM tonight on ABC, but knock on every house on your block and convince your neighbors to do the same.*
*Please Note: theTVaddict.com does not condone door-to-door begging and pleading in an effort to raise the ratings of your favorite shows. Unless those shows were among my dearly departed brilliant-but-cancelled favorites such as EVERWOOD, JACK & BOBBY, GROSSE POINTE, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT and KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL.
Can you please explain to me how KNIGHT RIDER got a full season pick up before EVERY OTHER SHOW ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH? — Jenn
The TV Addict: What’s that? You’re not buying my theory that NBC President Ben Silverman is secretly the fifth and final Cylon who has given a starring role to a talking car with the hopes of secretly pushing his pro-machine agenda on an unsuspecting public. Well then, how does this slightly more plausible theory from frequent friend-of-the-site John Kubiceck sound, “Even with modest ratings, NBC is making so much money from Ford by having KNIGHT RIDER on the air that Ben Silverman would be an idiot in these tough economic times to give up such a lucrative deal just because the show is bad. Making money with crap like that is what allows NBC to keep airing low-rated stuff like CHUCK and 30 ROCK.”
Of course this TV Addict would be remiss if I didn’t point out to Mr. Kubiceck that (a) I’m not sure we know exactly how much NBC is getting to keep the super-sized Ford commercial that is KNIGHT RIDER on the air. And (b) CHUCK is no stranger when it comes to insanely intrusive SMALLVILLE levels of product placement [See: Recent sales pitch story-line featuring Michael Strahan and MADDEN ’09.]
I’m still confused over your assertion that IN TREATMENT has been cancelled. Please clarify. — Marisa
The TV Addict: Now this may come as a shock to some, but it turns out that this TV Addict isn’t perfect. I mean who knew that sitting in front of a buteiful high defanition flatt screen for houres on end wuld be detrimental to my smarts? [TV Addict Note: Unlike my usual poor uses of spelling and grammar, the previous sentence of typos was purely for comedic effect.]
Which is why I’m here to apologize to fans of IN TREATMENT everywhere. All ten of you. Embarrassingly enough, I’ve been confusing IN TREATMENT’s cancellation, or lack there of, with TELL ME YOU LOVE ME. So to clarify, a second season of IN TREATMENT is officially moving forward with Hope Davis on board to play Mira, a high-powered malpractice lawyer and FRASIER’s John Mahoney signing on the dotted line to play Bill, a CEO who finds that life is passing him by.
Random Musings: KNIGHT RIDER, Mena Suvari & HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
As much as this TV Addict would like to agree with Maureen Ryan’s assertion that the only reason NBC President Ben Silverman picked up KNIGHT RIDER for the entire season is because “KITT has taken over NBC!” I can’t help but feel that a car running a major television network is somewhat ridiculous. Which is why I’d like to take this opportunity to post theTVaddict.com’s very own theory that let’s face it, makes way more sense. Brace yourself… because Ben Silverman is obviously a Cylon and renewing KNIGHT RIDER is all a part of his secret pro-machine agenda.
Flipping through this week’s fantastic issue of Entertainment Weekly featuring a sneak peak of J.J. Abrams STAR TREK re-boot, this TV Addict couldn’t help but notice an advertisement for Lifetime’s SEX AND LIES IN SIN CITY, starring Mena Suvari. Begging the question: What happened to the young actress who broke onto the scene with scene-stealing turns in AMERICAN PIE and AMERICAN BEAUTY? And more to the point, how sad is it that Mena Suvari is now seemingly relegated to C-list Lifetime Movies of the Week that we’re fairly sure Tori Spelling passed on?
Was anyone else surprised, nay, disappointed as to how fast Robin returned from her stint in Japan on last night’s installment of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER? I mean don’t get me wrong, this TV Addict is all for the further development of Robin and Barney. I was just hoping that Barney would be the one to literally suit up and bring Robin back from the Land of the Rising Sun himself. For some inexplicable reason, I can’t help but smile every time I imagine Barney surrounded by millions of dark-suited Japanese people.

You Be the Critic: TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES, GOSSIP GIRL, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, THE BIG BANG THEORY, CHUCK ONE TREE HILL and PRISON BREAK
Just because I can’t get it together to properly formulate my thoughts on last night’s fantastic slew of Monday night shows doesn’t mean I should rob you guys [my far smarter and better looking readers] of an opportunity to put forth your opinion. So go ahead, put on that critics hat and let me know what you thought of last night’s Television.
Exclusive Interview: PRIVILEGED Showrunner Rina Mimoun
By: Amrie Cunningham, My Take on TV
We’ve all heard it said a million times before, every TV season. There is that awesome show that no one is watching. The show that you immediately hook onto, and can’t stand the thought of losing it because people are just not paying attention, and it makes you sad when people don’t catch on. For me, this season, it’s PRIVILEGED on The CW.
Based on the book “How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls,” the show is about Megan Smith (Joanna Garcia, REBA), a recent college graduate who, through a comedy of errors including fluorescent red hair, and a slight house fire, ends up in Palm Beach as the tutor to two heiresses, Rose (Lucy Hale) and Sage Baker (Ashley Newbrough). Her mission is to help the two underachievers get college-worthy grades. Along the way, while she meets hot guy after hot guy, she wades the treacherous waters of her terribly embarrassing family and she tries to figure out who she really is.
PRIVILEGED harkens back to the days of The WB glory when DAWSON’S CREEK, GILMORE GIRLS, EVERWOOD, JACK AND JILL were all on. They were these glossy romantic worlds that you could fall into every week. The reason it resembles those shows so much is that the creator and executive producer of the show is none other than the brilliant, and funny, and charming Rina Mimoun, who had more than a little something to do with all of the above (not to mention writing the script for my favorite season 1 PUSHING DAISIES episode, “Pigeon”).
We had the chance to spend some quality time with Rina last week on a very small conference call to celebrate the brand new episode of PRIVILEGED airing Tuesday. Among the things we discussed – how the show got started, where it’s going next and what other EVERWOOD alum (Sarah Drew is guesting in one episode this November) we should expect to see if the ratings perk up and they get their back nine!
You Are Getting Sleepy….
Sleepy enough to tune into tonight’s brand new episodes of CHUCK featuring a butt-kicking guest spot by Nicole Richie [8PM, NBC] and TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES with BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Stephanie Jacobsen [8PM, FOX].
[8:30PM UPDATE] Just wondering if my nifty little hypnotic image is working?
You’re Invited Behind the Scenes of a HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Wedding
Rather than remain bitter and angry that our invitation to tonight’s impromptu nuptials between Ted and Stella so clearly must have gotten lost in the mail. This TV Addict thought he’d take the high road by sharing with you this fascinating behind the scenes look at the couple’s very special day [that we weren’t invited to] courtesy of our friends over at BuddyTV.com.
And again, just to reiterate in case their was some confusion. There are absolutely no lingering feelings of resentment towards one John Kubicek and BuddyTV.com. After-all, it’s not like this TV Addict had a tux on hold, a gift picked out and a limousine reserved. No really, it’s cool. I mean I’m sure spending time with Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan, Sarah Chalke and special guest star Jason Jones isn’t nearly as much fun as it seems and that I’ll be just as content witnessing the wedding on CBS tonight at 8:30PM.
The TV Addict Catches Up with CHUCK
GOSSIP GIRL, TERMINATOR, CHUCK, HEROES, THE BIG BANG THEORY, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, BOSTON LEGAL, THE DAILY SHOW, THE COLBERT REPORT, PRISON BREAK, ONE TREE HILL.
With the number of Monday “Must Watch” shows dropping like viewers to LIFE ON MARS, this TV Addict decided to dedicate Sunday, in support of quality television everywhere, to catch up on the first three episodes of CHUCK just in time for tonight’s butt-kicking guest spot by Nicole Richie.
CHUCK Versus the First Date
In Case You Missed it: In the grand tradition of episodic television, Chuck Bartowski was this close to getting his very own happily-ever-after [ie. Yvonne Strahovski]. That is, until the Cipher turned out to be a trojan horse, leaving the new Intersect out of commission and Sarah and Casey with at minimum twenty-one more episodes of Chuck-sitting.
Familiar Faces: Michael Clarke Duncan as Colt, a bald headed baddie that yes, this TV Addict found intimidating.
Intel Gathered: As per Sarah, “You never bring a gun on a first date.” And the Buy More, thanks to sp,e overly-gratuitous product placement shots, seems to be the only store in America with an ample stock of Nintendo Wiis.
Questions Raised: Had the Intersect not blown up, would Casey actually have gone ahead and put Chuck out of commission?
