Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Lessons American TV Can Learn From DOCTOR WHO
Big name actors need not apply.
Let’s face it, short of “John,” it doesn’t get anymore generic than Matt Smith. Yet that didn’t stop the BBC and the creative team behind DOCTOR WHO from handing over the reigns of what is arguably their country’s most recognizable export to an actor that would leave even the most ardent TV Addict asking, “Who?” And lucky for us, what Matt Smith lacks in name recognition he more than makes up for with acting talent, an energy that is almost hypnotic and chemistry with another relative unknown, sidekick Karen Gillan.
Not Lost.
Unlike the US networks attempt to find the next LOST — which has led to a string of disappointing and confusing mythological driven shows that have all been, or are on the brink of cancelation — the first two episodes we’ve seen of DOCTOR WHO couldn’t have been more welcoming for the neophyte viewer. Oh sure, there are of course few things we’re scratching our head over — like what exactly the good doctor’s connection to earth is and why it seems he is the last of his kind — but overall it’s nice to be able to jump into a series without needing a PhD in WHOology to enjoy the ride.

ROMANTICALLY CHALLENGED Star Kyle Bornheimer Talks About Succeeding in Hollywood By Really Really Trying!
To those who say hard work and perseverance don’t pay off. We say, have you met Kyle Bornheimer? After spending the better part of 5 years toiling away in such pivotal roles as “waiter” and “uniform cop” in the likes of MEDIUM and MONK respectively, Bornheimer can currently be seen in ABC’s newest comedy ROMANTICALLY CHALLENGED (Mondays at 9:30PM on ABC). Which is why he was kind enough to take some time to chat about the show and his harrowing tale of Hollywood survival.
Looking over your imdb resume, one can’t help but notice that after years of bit parts, you quietly evolved from serial guest star into leading man. What happened?
Kyle Bornheimer: It was a very slow slow burn, I was out in LA for 10 years before anyone paid me anything that I was wanting to do. After doing a lot of commercials, and a lot small stuff on television, you basically begin to build reputations with casting directors who believe in you, start casting you in small stuff and then start getting you into the bigger rooms for bigger parts. You look at that resume in the beginning — MONK and THE OC were the first things on it — I had one line and every three roles or so I got more and more lines.

You Be the Critic: Gabourey Sidibe Hosts SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
Watching SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE is starting to feel like the TV bloggers equivalent of Groundhog Day. And since there are only so many Sunday’s we can wake up and wonder if SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE showrunner Lorne Michaels has completely lost touch with what’s funny — following yet another uneven mashup of irrelevant (Steve Harvey, Suze Orma, really?) and unfunny (We vote to centure Fred Armisen’s Obama impersonation) sketches that once again leave us wondering how an imdb-credited 28 (!) writers can so spectacularly fail to come up with less than 90 minutes of entertaining sketches once a week when the brilliant minds at THE DAILY SHOW and THE COLBERT REPORT manage to do so on a nightly basis — we’re throwing up our arms in frustration by opening up the thread to you. Did we miss something? Are we being too hard? Or was there absolutely nothing funny — outside of the always solid Seth Meyers Weekend Update — that was worth staying up for?

Entitled “The Staircase Implementation,” the episode will not just recount how Leonard, Koothrappali and Wolowitz first met Sheldon, but more importantly, reveal the sordid (and possibly gory!) tale surrounding the mystery of their building’s perpetually out-of-order elevator.
