Over the course of its six seasons on the air, much has been made about the magical properties surrounding the mysterious island that was central to LOST’s mythology. And while the ambiguous nature of the show’s finale may-or-may-not have provided the desired closure depending on your point of view, one thing we believe fans will be hard-pressed to argue with is that the island did posses one undeniable power: That of career-booster. Just ask Nestor Carbonell, the hard-working and talented actor who can currently be seen opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in the hit CW show RINGER. We did, and here’s what he had to say about his time in Hawaii, his latest project that sees him portrayer Fugitive-style FBI agent Victor Machado on RINGER and the unique journey that took him from the hallowed halls of Harvard to Hollywood. An In Depth Look At… The Wedding of GENERAL HOSPITAL’s JaSam!
There’s nothing like a wedding to thrill soap fans… but rarely does a couple stir up controversy the way GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Jason and Sam do! So with the pair poised to walk down the aisle next week, we asked Soaps In Depth‘s executive editor, Richard M. Simms, what is is about the lovebirds that makes them one of the most passionately-debated duos in recent soap history.
“Oh, geez,” he says with a sigh. “You’re basically asking me to poke at the hornet’s nest with a sharp stick!” It seems that there are two groups of fans who’ve been waging an often nasty war with one another for quite some time now. “On the one hand, there’s the JaSam crew,” Simms explains. “Obviously, they are very big fans of Jason and Sam, and they’ve been looking forward to this wedding for a very long time. On the other side of the proverbial aisle are people who want to see Jason with his ex, Liz. They’re the Liason crew. And whenever those two groups come together, man, things can get really nasty!” [Read more…]

About Last Night’s… THE SECRET CIRCLE Series Premiere
If there’s one thing The CW has taught us over the years, it’s that being a teen ain’t easy. Sure, you might be pretty and have a trendy outfit for every occasion (despite having no discernible means of income), and chances are you have a car. But, gosh darn it, there’s always, like, someone out to turn you into a vampire or steal your soul or turn you into a secret agent or set your car on fire with magic.
Yup, being a teen is tough.
But if there’s another thing The CW has taught us over the years, it’s that mixing teen angst with a healthy dose of creepy goings-on makes for a heady brew that can be downright entertaining. With THE SECRET CIRCLE, we got all that and more in a quick-paced hour that, if not exactly pushing any envelopes, at least didn’t leave us feeling as if our brain cells were being stomped upon.
Realizing that every single viewer tuning in would know that the show was about spell-casting teens, the show didn’t waste any time in setting up its premise. By the half-way point, our innocent ingenue, Cassie (played by Britt Robertson, who is a tad blank in the expression department yet reminds one of a young Michelle Williams) had found out she was a witch, gotten herself involved in a love triangle, reigned in an out-of-control storm and found her mom’s secret diary. Of course, said journal indicated that people would be coming for Cassie and her powers, which even the least astute viewers had figured out about when, about five seconds in, hiss-worthy baddie Charles Meade (the surprisingly-effective Gale Harold, best known for the gay sudser QUEER AS FOLK) turned her mama into a human fireball. Perhaps the true standout performance in the opener came from Phoebe Tonkin, who plays bitchy witch Faye Chamberlin. (Although, as a friend of mine always says, “Playing the bitch is easy. Playing the bitch everybody sympathizes for is tough.” Tonklin definitely nailed the latter, so now we can only hope she — with an assist from the writers — manages to flesh the teen temptress out.)
The show didn’t reach VAMPIRE DIARIES levels of storytelling and intrigue, but then, that show is now entering its third season and, despite a solid pilot, took a bit of time in striking the right balance. Here, it might have behooved the writers to spend a little time crafting a few cool-sounding spells. Having our heroine basically look to the heavens and say, “Make it stop!” in order to quell a bad storm was probably a tad more giggle-inducing than they’d intended. But over all, the debut episode accomplished everything it could possibly want to, introducing us to a plethora of characters (almost all of whom had names that seemed lifted directly out of a ’50s New England Who’s Who) and setting up the inevitable battle between good and evil. Now, we’ll just have to see if it proves to have more than one trick up its sleeve.
THE SECRET CIRCLE premieres on the CW this Thursday September 15th at 9pm (Friday September 16th at 9PM on MuchMusic in Canada) and stars Brittany Robertson, Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, Natasha Henstridge, Phoebe Tonkin, Logan Browning, Ashley Crow, Shelley Hennig and Adam Harrington. Klaus! Stefan! Alaric! Delena! We Preview THE VAMPIRE DIARIES Season 3 with Executive Producer Julie Plec
When we last left THE VAMPIRE DIARIES all the way back in May, the fates of more than one character was left hanging in the balance – not in life-and-death terms, but rather the fate of their souls and their increasingly intertwined relationships. Uber-vamp Klaus successfully completed the ritual allowing him to embrace both his vampire and werewolf destinies, but not without the ultimate sacrifice: the lives of Jenna, Jules, and John. Astoundingly, both Petrova doppelgangers, Elena and Katherine, survived the bloody sacrifice – thanks to some heroic acts by Damon and John. Damon foolishly fed his blood to Elena to make sure she would not die and John gave up his soul so that Elena would not lose hers when she revived from death.
Then, not to be left out, Stefan intervened to save Damon’s life, by agreeing to stay with Klaus in exchange for his blood to cure Damon from the werewolf bite. So many noble sacrifices in the end. But it may mean a world of trouble ahead this season with Stefan bound to Klaus and forced to participate in Klaus’ deadly games; and complications on the home-front as Elena confessed her love for Damon when she thought he was dying.
Plus, Damon has been left alone to fight the good fight in Mystic Falls while Stefan is caught in Klaus’ evil web. Also, lurking in the background is Elijah, Klaus’ loyal brother who could not kill him when he had the chance and Katherine who is now free of Klaus’ clutches, but without Stefan to fixate her blood-lust and desires may seek to seduce Damon yet again – or will she find another love to fixate her attentions?
Then there is the other-worldly complications of Jeremy’s ex-girlfriends appearing out of the ether as if coming back to haunt him from the grave. ‘Tis the season for ghosts, lost souls, and love in the cross-hairs.
While at Comic-Con in July, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES cast and executive producer Julie Plec was in attendance to tease a little about the third season. Talking with the press, Julie shared what is next for the good-hearted Stefan who made a noble sacrifice at the end of last season and how the parallel stories of Stefan/Damon and Klaus/Elijah will impact the upcoming season.
