If Fall TV Posters Told The Truth: LIFE IN PIECES Edition
With the new Fall TV Season just around the corner, we here at theTVaddict.com thought we’d have a little fun with some of the advertisements Networks have shelled out big bucks for. First up, CBS’ new family comedy LIFE IN PIECES that may-or-may-not bear a smidgen of similarity to that hit aging ABC series about a similar subject!
Fall TV Preview: SCREAM QUEENS
The Premise: The girls of Kappa House are dying for new pledges. SCREAM QUEENS is a new killer comedy-horror series from award-winning executive producers Ryan Murphy (“Glee,” “American Horror Story”), Brad Falchuk (“Glee,” “American Horror Story”) and Ian Brennan (“Glee”). Kappa House, the most sought-after sorority for pledges, is ruled with an iron fist (in a pink glove) by CHANEL OBERLIN (Emma Roberts, “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” “Scream 4”). But when anti-Kappa DEAN CATHY MUNSCH (Jamie Lee Curtis, “Halloween,” “A Fish Called Wanda,” “True Lies”) decrees that sorority pledging must be open to all students, and not just the school’s silver-spooned elite, all hell is about to break loose, as a devil-clad killer begins wreaking havoc across the campus. An over-the-top, biting satire, SCREAM QUEENS is part black comedy, part slasher flick and a modern take on the classic whodunit, in which every character has a motive for murder…or could easily be the next victim.
The Premiere Date: Tuesday, Sept. 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (City TV in Canada)
The Competition: AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.LD (ABC), NCIS: NEW ORLEANS (CBS), CHICAGO MED (NBC), iZOMBIE (THE CW)
The Quick Take: Bad news for SCREAM QUEENS, MTV’s small screen version of the hit horror film SCREAM already premiered this summer and did a much better job in the tongue-in-cheek-meta-serial-killer-storyline department. And while that will no doubt have little impact on Ryan Murphy’s opus from topping the ratings chart, not to mention the Facebook, Tumblr and Snapchat feeds of Fox’s coveted 18-49 demographic, SCREAM QUEENS left us with that awful feeling we got while watching GLEE at its worst (Think: Over-the-top and desperate for attention.) The only stand out being Emma Roberts, who is fantastic as the show’s uber-mean girl.
The Bottom Line: Skip the senseless SCREAM QUEENS violence for the bloody brilliance of Rob Thomas’ timslot competitor iZOMBIE over on The CW.
GRANDFATHERED Sneak Peek: The Ultimate Bachelor
In the premiere of GRANDFATHERED, the new Fox comedy starring John Stamos, Jimmy Martino is a successful restaurateur who is used to be being the most charming person in the room. He talks up wanting a family, but he’s more content to be a single lothario without any strings.
That all changes when Gerald, his adult son with a former girlfriend, turns up at his restaurant. But Jimmy doesn’t just gain a son one day, he also gains a granddaughter, Edie. As it turns out, Gerald was finally ready to get to know the father that never he knew he existed and brought his young daughter along for the introduction.
Jimmy is, of course, floored when he finds out that he’s a grandfather. Now this quintessential single man is suddenly a family man, thrust back into the life of his former girlfriend, their son, their granddaughter, and their granddaughter’s mother (who treats her baby daddy as a friend, despite him wanting more). Can Jimmy adjust his bachelor lifestyle to accommodate his new family? He may just be surprised by how much they add to his life.
GRANDFATHERED premieres on September 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD: First Look At Chloe Bennet As Quake
The Los Angeles Times first revealed SHIELD’s brand new outfit for Daisy Johnson aka Quake earlier today. Her wardrobe along with the clothing of some of the show’s characters in the upcoming third season will look a bit darker than what audiences are used to. Actress Chloe Bennet shared her thoughts about the costume and what it felt like like to try it on for the first time:
It was really, really fun [to put it on]. With the inner geek in me – and growing up with six brothers – I was never really interested in being the princess. I was more into being someone who kicked… and was a superhero. So, that was a dream come true. It was cool to be part the process in helping to design the outfit.
The person responsible for bringing the outfit to life is costume designer Ann Foley. When asked what message the costume conveys, Foley had definite ideas.
It’s about strength. She feels very empowered in it… That’s what was important to me, that she felt empowered to me. I wanted to stay true to some of the designs I saw in the comics. In the style lines, I wanted to pay a little bit of a tribute to her tactical ability from last season, but we also incorporated the Quake symbol into her gauntlets and on the back of her suit.
For those unfamiliar with Quake, she is an Inhuman with the ability to move objects and generate massive amounts of force, so special considerations went into making the particular suit pictured above. Both Foley and Bennet were excited about the gauntlets Daisy will be wearing. “It’s only something that Daisy would have and is specific to her earthquake powers,” says Bennet. “It’s a practical part of the costume, cause when you put this on in real life, it’s not that practical. I always wondered why superheroes wear such tight outfits, cause they’re really tight and really limiting. It works onscreen though.”
MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. premieres September 29 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

RED OAKS Preview: Amazon’s New 1980’s Comedy Series is Soon
It’s the summer of 1985 when RED OAKS — Amazon’s newest comedy series — begins. Craig Roberts stars as David Myers, who takes a job as an assistant tennis pro at the Red Oaks Country Club in suburban New Jersey. Still reeling from his father’s recent heart attack and conflicted about which major to declare in the fall, David is just trying to survive the summer.
At the club, he meets with a colorful cast of misfit co-workers (as is often the cast with comedies), as well as wealthy club members. There’s Skye, an alluring art student, and her father Getty (played by Paul Reiser), a corporate raider. Richard Kind stars as David’s father, Sam, in this coming-of-age new series.
The RED OAKS pilot is currently available on Amazon and season 1 will be released on October 9.
