In this continuing series, we give you the scoop on some of the most highly-anticipated shows of 2012, with the focus of today’s attention being on NBC’s AWAKE.
The Plot: After a devastating car accident, Detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) finds himself trapped in two terrifying realities: one where his son (LOST’s Dylan Minnette) died in the crash and his wife Hannah (TERRIERS’ Laura Allen) survived, and another where Hannah has perished leaving father and son to pick up the pieces. Ask the Addict: Spoilers for GLEE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, HART OF DIXIE, ONCE UPON A TIME, ARROW & More!
Any ARROW intel? — Mikey
The TV Addict: SMALLVILLE fans who are still in mourning over their dearly departed Superman series will be pleased to discover that ARROW isn’t wasting anytime when it comes to bringing familiar faces back into the fold. Less pleased, will be actress Keri Lynn Pratt, who it appears will have to re-audition for the role of Cat Grant that producers have re-imagined as a sexy TMZ-style reporter who appears in the ARROW pilot to cover the unexpected reappearance of Oliver Queen.
Is George and Lemon really going to go through with their wedding on HART OF DIXIE? — Lisa
The TV Addict: Not if Mother Nature has anything to say about it (Evidently, Mother Nature is a supporter of Team Zoe!) According to our sources, a storm of biblical proportions is scheduled to touch down in BlueBell Alabama just in time for the season finale of HART OF DIXIE that will, as luck would have it, center around George and Lemon’s big day. The Collapse of Primetime Television: Where Are Television Shows Going Wrong?
February is a make-it-or-break-it month for a lot of television shows. It is a sweeps month where ratings for all television show are vital to determine the longevity of any show. Sweeps occur in November to test the viability of new and returning shows; then in February, to test new mid-season shows and again check the pulse of existing shows; and in May, to show advertisers and networks that they are getting their money’s worth and demonstrate that there is an existing audience willing to come back the following Fall after the usual 3-4 month hiatus.
The average viewer has no real awareness of “sweeps” months — other than it guarantees some really cool guest appearances, big stunt episodes and a possible heads-up that there may be a hiatus period afterwards in which television shows are M.I.A. as they play catch-up.
This February, however, has been a blood-bath for most TV shows, new and existing alike. This is typically the time of year when viewership is at an all time high because people are stuck at home during the winter months and seek solace in front of their TV sets. However, 2012 is proving to be the exception to the rule. People are not sitting at home and watching TV. They are doing anything but watching their television sets at the appointed times — and it is sending sharp-spasms of fear throughout every television producer and programmer in the industry. Where have the viewers gone? [Read more…]
We Preview the 84th ACADEMY AWARDS with Comedian/Writer Carol Leifer
Carol Leifer is a glass half-full kind of comedian.
Unlike this admittedly glass-half empty kind of TV Addict, Leifer, one of the writers of this Sunday’s much anticipated 84th ACADEMY AWARDS doesn’t see any downside to writing for an Award Show in which a community of critics are already sharpening their pens to pick apart.
“With the internet, everything is ripped apart the second it gets out there, it doesn’t matter what it is. It could be THE KENNEDY CENTER HONORS, there’s always going to be haters out there,” laughed off Leifer during a recent one-on-one with the TV Addict. “As a writer, we’re all just excited to put the material out there. I really approach it not only as such a fun show to work on, but so exciting because you never know what’s going to happen next. Writing for the OSCARS is really the highlight of my year, especially this year having Billy Crystal back as host.” [Read more…]
