SMASH
According to the Official NBC Description: SMASH is a musical drama that celebrates the beauty and heartbreak of the Broadway theater as it follows a cross-section of dreamers and schemers who all have one common desire — to be a “Smash.” The series centers on a desire to create a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe — written by the successful songwriting duo of Tom (Christian Borle, Legally Blonde: The Musical) and Julia (Debra Messing, WILL & GRACE). Julia recently began the process of adopting a child with her husband of many years, but her focus is torn when she has the opportunity to write another Broadway hit. A rivalry soon forms for the lead role between a youthful, inexperienced Midwestern beauty (Katharine McPhee, AMERICAN IDOL) — who is trying to find fame in the big city against all odds — and stage veteran (Megan Hilty, 9 to 5: The Musical), who’s determined to leave the chorus line and finally get her big break. A tenacious producer Eileen (Anjelica Huston, Prizzi’s Honor) discovers the “Marilyn” project and jumps on board with a brilliant director (Jack Davenport, Pirates of the Caribbean films) — whose talent is matched by his cunning and egocentric amorality.
Why We’re Excited: Based on an idea from some guy named Steven Spiel-something-or-other comes a new series executive produced by the talented twosome (Craig Zadan and Neil Meron) responsible for shepherding Chicago and Hairspray featuring original songs from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can). In other words, aside from premiere date that has already been pushed back to January 2012, there is very little not to love about what is already becoming one of our most anticipated new shows of the Fall Winter season.
Why We Probably Shouldn’t Let Our Excitement Get the Better of Us: With the curtain being held until January 2012, there is an awful long time for what are potentially too many cooks in the kitchen (read: Network Brass and countless executive producers/creative types) to screw this up.

NBC Pickuppalooza: Find Out the Fates of PARENTHOOD, WONDER WOMAN, THE PLAYBOY CLUB & More! [Updated]
Mere days before NBC gets set to unveil their complete 2011-12 lineup in New York City, the Peacock Network revealed that joining the just-renewed trifecta of PARENTHOOD, HARRY’S LAW and CHUCK will be a flurry of freshman dramas, including: A 60’s period drama chronicling the ups and downs of a handful of Playboy bunnies (Amber Heard, Jenna Dewan) and the men who love them (Eddie Cibrian) appropriately titled THE PLAYBOY CLUB; AWAKE which is being billed as a small screen version of Inception starring Jason Isaacs as a police detective who can’t let go of his deceased family after a car crash; GRIMM featuring a police detective (David Giuntoli) who must face off against criminals inspired by Grimm’s Fairy Tales; Chelsea Handler’s semi-autobiographical laugher ARE YOU THERE VODKA? Ask the Addict: Spoilers for HOUSE, NIKITA, BONES, SMALLVILLE & More!
Any idea as to whether or not Tom and Lynette are actually heading for splitsville on DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES? — Jennifer
The TV Addict: It sure looks that way doesn’t it! And while we don’t pretend to know if Wisteria Lane’s most stable couple will actually go as far as to commence those dreaded divorce proceedings, what we can promise is that you won’t have to wait all summer to find out. “I believe we gain some closure,” said Tom’s portrayer Doug Savant during a recent one-on-one with the TV Addict. “This marriage and relationships in general are an ongoing evolution, but fans will be relieved to know that there is some closure to this particular issue.”
Any clues as to who will be ripping a hole in BONES’ heart tonight? — Madison
The TV Addict: Yes. But since we sure as heck aren’t about to risk the wrath of fellow countryman Hart Hanson by spilling the beans as to which character will find himself on the wrong end of sniper Jacob Ripkin Broadsky sight (Seriously, have you seen a Canadian get mad?) we will only go as far as to reveal that it’s a character that fans will most certainly scream “Nooooo!” over… followed by a quick reach for the tissues. Oh, and on the off chance you’re stopping off at a store in-between work and home, it might behoove you to stock up on tissues as tonight’s key death sends shockwaves throughout the entire team. Watch for a casket, flowers and a very unexpected song that may-or-may-not haunt you until Friday.
