Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Things We’re Thankful For [TV Edition]
Our DVR/PVR
Since the major networks inexplicably insist on scheduling many of their most popular shows at the EXACT same time (Only to then wonder, “Hmmm, why are ratings down for FRINGE?”), a PVR/DVR has quickly become the must-own accessory to any living room set-up. So much so that we’ve almost completely blocked out the dark ages of the VCR! Remember those days? When the only way to have a social life (or in our case, watch one show and record another!) was to ‘tape’ shows on ugly and inefficient video cassettes that took up ridiculous amounts of shelf space. Room that is now dedicated to the mortgage payment worth of TV on DVD.
The Current Economic Crisis
If ratings for many of television’s biggest shows are any indication (see the 20 million or so NCIS fans, big numbers for BIG BANG and ABC’s resurgent Wednesday night line-up), there is a silver-lining to the fact that many TV Addicts can no longer afford to spend $80 on a movie ticket, popcorn and dinner. Plus, as an added bonus, networks are being far more patient with high profile low rated fare such as MELROSE PLACE, THE FORGOTTEN and COMMUNITY. All of which are seeing second and third chances to prove themselves so that executives don’t have to risk being the ones responsible for draining millions from the network’s coffers on the next HANK or THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE.
Shonda Rhimes
When showrunner Shonda Rhimes isn’t busy lessening the blow of T.R. Knight’s surprise exit, remedying the lack of screen time for both Meredith and Izzie (Due to Ellen Pompeo’s real-life pregnancy and Katherine Heigl’s insistence on pumping out bland romantic comedies) by cleverly injecting 3 cc’s of fresh blood into Seattle Grace courtesy of the Mercy West merger, or spearheading some truly compelling story-lines for often under-utilized players such as Patrick Dempsey and James Pickens Jr, she is busily working to maintain the upward momentum of interest in her other medical drama PRIVATE PRACTICE. But what we’re most thankful for, is in what we can only assume is her only three minutes of free time a week, Rhimes never ceases to entertain us with her recent twitter addiction that has her verbally sparring with a group of crazed very passionate fans.
Dear Seth MacFarlane…
Assuming the remaining forty-one minutes are as funny as the above three minute and thirty-one second trailer for the second installment of FAMILY GUY’s loving homage to STAR WARS titled, “Something Something Something Darkside” all is forgiven for the thirty-minute train-wreck that was SETH & ALEX’S ALMOST LIVE COMEDY SHOW. We swear.
Sincerely,
The TV Addict

What Are You Thankful For? [TV Edition]
With American Thanksgiving mere days away, we at theTVaddict.com thought now would be the perfect time to give you — our far smarter and better looking readers —the opportunity to post the obligatory “What You’re Thankful For…”
Of course, please keep in mind that this is theTVaddict.com, not your family dinner table. So while we’re sure you’re happy for continued health, family, friends, peace on earth, yadda, yadda yadda — we don’t care.
This TV Addict wants to hear about the superficial, absolutely pointless, TV-related things you’re thankful for. You know, the important stuff like how an apparent pre-requisite for being a “Visitor” is that you’re really hot. Or the fact that NBC is doing so poorly in the ratings that not only is CHUCK coming back sooner than originally planned, but COMMUNITY and PARKS AND RECREATION seem like sure-fire candidates for renewal.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About THE BIG BANG THEORY Star Johnny Galecki
He really likes his co-workers.
Having acted his entire life, actor Johnny Galecki knows a thing or two about faking it. So when it comes to pretending he knows the difference between an Elf and Lich King in the world that is Warcraft… no problem! The ability to solve complex theorems in a single bound… just say the word! Fake a friendship with three nerds and a really hot next-door neighbour… err… easier said than done! Which is partially why Galecki attributes the success of THE BIG BANG THEORY to one of the most integral ingredients to any hit television show: Genuine chemistry. “A priceless part of the show, or anything really — be it office work or whatever — is the people you’re surrounded by,” explained Galecki. “And we, all of us, just happen to be very lucky that we’re surrounded by people we adore. You can’t fake that.”
He trusts the writers.
Just how nervous was Galecki upon discovering that show runners Bill Prady and Chuck Lorre were going to take Leonard and Penny where no couple on THE BIG BANG THEORY has gone before. “Knowing that that kind of romantic dynamic has been done before and done really really well, the scenes between Penny and Leonard were always looked at very carefully and rehearsed the most cautiously and stringently,” revealed the actor. “But the good thing is that Leonard and Penny aren’t together because viewership is dwindling, it’s being done for creative reasons and I trust the writers to handle the relationship with care.”

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: TV Tidbits Gleaned From Twitter This Week
Nina Dobrev continues to make Canada proud.
Unlike some other DEGRASSI grads who shall remain nameless, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES star Nina Dobrev has not forgotten her roots. As evidence by her tweet over the weekend that had her spending Saturday night with former fictional classmates Paula Brancati (Jane), Charlotte Arnold (Holly J) and Landon Liboiron (Declan) in the Big Apple. Where Dobrev spent the weekend shooting the upcoming cover of Seventeen magazine and the DNG crew were busy with the season finale that we really hope will expect hope will be titled DEGRASSI TAKES MANHATTAN.
Shonda Rhimes hearts Calizona
Shonda Rhimes may be a spoiler-phobe offline, but on twitter she inexplicably is a veritable wealth of information. Last week, aside from clarifying some of your favorite doctor’s living arrangements (Turns out, Mark and Lexie live across the hall from Callie and Christina, anyone else smell a spin-off sitcom!?), Rhimes took time to assuage the fears of those invested in the Callie and Arizona (or Calizona) pairing by revealing that, “I just watched some very cute Callie Arizona kissing in a cut of an upcoming episode…”
