SETH AND ALEX’s ALMOST LIVE COMEDY SHOW Was *Almost* Funny
If last November’s ROSIE LIVE! was the final nail in the Primetime Variety Show’s coffin, last night’s FAMILY GUY PRESENTS: SETH AND ALEX’s ALMOST LIVE COMEDY SHOW was the funeral.
Starring Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, AMERICAN DAD, CLEVELAND SHOW) and Alex Borstein (the voice of “Lois”) SETH AND ALEX’s ALMOST LIVE COMEDY featured a mix of musical numbers, sketches and animated interstitials. Almost none of which — with the notable exception of a far-too-brief appearance by Stewie to introduce the trailers for the upcoming Warner Bros. films Sherlock Holmes and Ninja Assasins) was funny.

Christian Slater Talks Twilight’s Taylor Lautner (Now Will You Tune into THE FORGOTTEN?)
Nestled quietly in-between ABC’s Monday night juggernaut that is DANCING WITH THE STARS and Wednesdays freshman block of laugh-out-loud comedies (which include THE MIDDLE, MODERN FAMILY and COUGAR TOWN) is Christian Slater. Who at this very moment is hoping audiences don’t treat his new Jerry Bruckheimer produced procedural anything like the all-but-forgotten victims that his team of dedicated amateur detectives work on identifying in THE FORGOTTEN.
Which is probably why the movie-turned-small-screen star took to the phones late last week to talk to this TV Addict about why he decided to jump back into series television, the price of fame, and the little-known-fact that he knew Twilight’s Taylor Lautner long before the rest of you did.
How hesitant were you to jump back into series television after the way NBC treated MY OWN WORST ENEMY?
Christian Slater: You know in spite of the cancellation, I loved the experience on MY OWN WORST ENEMY. I really enjoyed the schedule, the family atmosphere, the cast, and the crew, so to get the opportunity to do something else so quickly again was very exiting.
Was there any apprehension to join a show that had already been labeled by the press as ‘troubled’ (courtesy of changes both in front of and behind the camera following the pilot’s completion)?
Not really. I read the pilot and thought it was a very interesting scenario and I really liked the idea. And as I’ve started to learn more and more about the subject matter as we get deeper and deeper into this adventure, I think it’s really cool that there are actual organizations out there that actually do what we do on the show. For instance, last week we did a PSA (Public Service Announcement) for nameless.gov and the amount of hits to their website doubled. So the fact that we can actually do something that’s contributing something positive to the world is very exciting.
The ABC’s of November Sweeps (Literally!)
November Sweeps has arrived, and with it, guest stars galore, ratings stunts and more. All of which you’ll find details to in our first ever A to Z guide.
A IS FOR AMANDA, last name Woodward, the scheming fan favorite who will be making her much anticipated return to MELROSE PLACE on November 17.
B IS FOR BANKS, as in Elizabeth Banks, the actress who continues to live up to her reputation as one of the coolest gals in Hollywood by agreeing to guest star on the November 18 episode of MODERN FAMILY playing a beleaguered best friend to Cameron and Mitchell who feels her friendship has taken a back-seat to Baby Lily. Cue hilarity in 3.. 2… 1..
C IS FOR CBS, who in an effort to CURB the ratings slide of CSI, the once unstoppable CORNERSTONE of the network’s Thursday night lineup, is sending Laurence Fishburne on a journey that will take him to Miami (November 11), New York (November 11) and Las Vegas (November 12) in search of a missing (and big ratings!)
D IS FOR D’OH! Also known as the reaction DOLLHOUSE fans made upon discovering that their little-series-that-could won’t be returning to the airwaves until December.
E IS FOR EVE, the rapper/actress hyphenate who will lend her pipes, and we imagine a song or two to the November 25 episode of GLEE.

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Our Favorite Shows of the Week
DOLLHOUSE
What is with those Whedon’s and their ability to always leave us wanting more. Fresh of the heels of this week’s DOLLHOUSE debacle that has FOX benching the ratings anemic series for November sweeps, comes a harrowing Sierra-centric episode that recounts the terrifying circumstances in which the Aussie beauty found her way to the Rossum Corporation. Both gripping and gut-wrenching, the episode was not only right up their as one of the series’ bests, but showed the few who bothered to watch, just how much potential this show has if given the chance.
MODERN FAMILY
Erik Estrada eat your heart out. For what FAMILY’s two “E’s” (Ed O’Neil and Eric Stonestreet) lack in the matinee idol looks department, they more than make up for by delivering the laughs. Yes, five episodes into the freshman series, O’Neill and Stonestreet, alongside the rest of the ridiculously talented cast, continue to raise the bar when it comes to L.P.M. (Laughs per minute). So much so that we’ll forgive showrunners Lloyd and Levitan (Christopher and Steven respectively) for leaving out the obvious ‘Four touchdowns in a single game’ shout-out many MARRIED WITH CHILDREN fans (okay, this TV Addict) was waiting for.
Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Questions with DOLLHOUSE star Tahmoh Penikett
If Paul Ballard spent all of last season attempting to bring down the Dollhouse, how does he justify working for them this season?
Tahmoh Penikett: Obviously he still wants to bring down the Dollhouse, but when we left him at the end of last season, he made an agreement to work for them. Why? Not only did he ensure November/Mellie’s release which gives Paul some peace of mind, he now gets to do some good. Which is where we found him at the beginning of the season. In “Vows,” he used Dollhouse technology to bring down a nemesis of his, Martin Klar (Jamie Bamber). What’s interesting though is what exactly is Paul’s hidden agenda? He has now made a deal with the devil (The Rossum Corporation) and continues to put Echo in harm’s way. And the questions of course are: When is he going to stop and when, or will his conscience get in the way?
What was it like reuniting with your BATTLESTAR GALACTICA co-star Jamie Bamber for the DOLLHOUSE season premiere?
It was awesome. When Joss [Whedon] told me that he had hired Jamie for the job, I didn’t believe him. For ten minutes I sat there going, ‘No you did not!’ and Joss would say, ‘Yeah, I did!’ Having worked with Jamie for five years, he is like family and I loved having him on the show, on my set, playing a completely different character. Obviously we have a lot of BSG fans amongst both the cast and crew and you’d be surprised how many people were like, ‘I can’t believe that’s his real accent.’ His British accent worked so well for an evil gunrunner, I thought he was perfect.
On the Fly with… COMMUNITY Star Danny Pudi
Where you might know him from: Before enrolling in Greendale COMMUNITY College, actor Danny Pudi got his big break at… would you believe Yale? Well, sort of. Being cast on GILMORE GIRLS as one of Paris’ hard-working peons at the campus newspaper not only prepared him perfectly for his current gig as pop-culture-holic Abed (“I had to speak really quickly on a very fast-paced show!”), but served as a great welcome to television. “Coming onto the show with four other Yale Daily News staffers, I didn’t know what to expect, but Liza Weil [Paris] was one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met in my life… so genuine and nothing like her character!”
