Well, the CW schedule is official, (you can check it out on the official CW web site http://cwtv.com) and I must admit, I’ve never been so disappointed with anything (TV releated) in my entire life. For most of my life, I’ve been pretty lucky. I’ve never had a beloved show ripped away from me before its time. Most of my favourites had nice long runs. Sure there was the odd cancellation that upset me, Jack & Bobby, Grosse Pointe, Models Inc. to name a few – but overall I was happy and lucky (I never watched Angel!).

My Take on TV
(*note from the TVaddict: Welcome to what we hope will become a weekly column about TV by Amrie, a fellow TV addict. I hope you like enjoy the column as much as I did, and please feel free to comment below!)
My name is Amrie and I am addicted to TV.
And now, a column….
In the coming days, most TV people will spend the week worrying about the Up Fronts. What show will be picked up? What show will be thrown to the curb? Not this TV person. I feel like if I talk about the Up Fronts, I will indirectly jinx myself and my favorite shows. Take for example the fact that I spent the entire morning talking about how amazing Veronica Mars is, and, bam, 7th Heaven is miraculously resurrected, and now Veronica Mars has this sad, sad chance of not being renewed. So this week, rather than focus on what might happen, or how sad we might be come Friday next, let’s talk about something different.
7th Heaven Returning (seriously!)
According to MediaWeek.com 7th Heaven will be returning for an 11th season on the CW. Apparently the new network wasn’t too pleased with their upcoming crop of Drama pilots, subsequently thay have decided to bring back the WB’s most watched drama. This is a bad sign, as the return of 7th Heaven means one less spot for an actualy ‘good’ tv show. If either Veronica Mars of Everwood gets bumped off the net in place of the cheesiest sappiest soapiest family drama ever, I think I’ll have to kill myself.

Sunday Night TV, Way Too Exciting!
As you may have guessed from the title of this post, I’m way too excited for tonight’s TV. On the WEST WING, What position will President-Elect Santos offer Vinick? I know, so I’m not going to spoil it, but with only three episodes left, you don’t want to miss ‘politics at its best.’ On BIG LOVE can the Henrickson clan really fit more family in their three houses? As Evil Roman evicted Bill’s family from the ‘compound’ (How creepy does the ‘compound’ sound? how creepy is Roman? Could his son BE anymore creepy?). Over on Wisteria Lane, will our DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES ever have anything good happen to them? Does anyone even care anymore? Finally, over on the left coast, will Meredith hook up with the new McDreamy Chris O’donnell? Having only seen season 1 on DVD, I have tried to avoid season 2 of GREY’S ANATOMY until the second season DVD comes out. Unfortunately, I have no will power, and caught last week’s re-cap show. Sadly, I’m jumping back on the bandwagon for the final few episodes. I should also mention that since I’m working tonight, I’ll be PVR’ing everything, and will no doubt be up very late tonight!
By the way, if you’re overwhelmed by MAY SWEEPS EXCITEMENT (who isn’t?) and have no idea what to watch, where to watch it, and when… hop on over to theTVaddict.com’s fantastic new WHAT TO WATCH TV GUIDE. Thanks to the brilliance of Jenny R, we have a great, easy to read guide, filled with what’s worth watching this week on TV.
Holy Frack! BSG News!
According to the SciFi network: Set more than 50 years before the “Battlestar: Galactica” miniseries, “Caprica” will deal with the origins of the Cylon race! And apparently with Bill Adama’s parents, uncles, aunts and/or grandparents! Check out the press release:
From executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick (‘Battlestar Galactica’), writer Remi Aubuchon (’24’) and NBC Universal Television Studio, this new series is set over a half a century before the events that play out in ‘Battlestar Galactica.’ The people of the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not unlike our own, but where high-technology has changed the lives of virtually everyone for the better. But a startling breakthrough in robotics is about to occur, one that will bring to life the age-old dream of marrying artificial intelligence with a mechanical body to create the first living robot – a Cylon. Following the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas (the family of William Adama, who will one day become the commander of the ‘Battlestar Galactica’) ‘Caprica’ weaves corporate intrigue, techno-action and sexual politics into television’s first science fiction family saga.
How Frackin’ awesome does that sound. While I was late to the party, I jumped on the Battlestar bandwagon months ago, watching every episode via iTunes. The show is original, brilliant and everything TV should be. If you haven’t caught on. You have until October to catch season’s 1 and 2 before the premiere of season 3 of Battlestar Galactica.
7th Heaven Returning
Some more bad news for fans of EVERWOOD and VERONICA MARS. According to Reuters, the CW is seriously considering bringing 7th HEAVEN back for another season. Reuters reports:
About a month ago, members of “Heaven’s” core cast, including Stephen Collins, Catherine Hicks, Beverley Mitchell and George Stults, were approached about the possibility of returning for another year on the show, sources said. Although no formal offers were made and there haven’t been recent inquiries to the cast or their representatives, sources indicate CW executives are keeping the option to bring back “Heaven” on the table, and no final decision will be made until the future network’s four drama pilots are evaluated.
The reason theTVaddict is so concerned with this news is that bringing 7th HEAVEN back is one less spot for a quality family drama on the new CW – ie EVERWOOD or VERONICA MARS. Can someone please start a ‘cancel 7th heaven campaign’ 🙂 Seriously!
The Return of 7th Heaven?
Something that really annoyed me about SMALLVILLE on Thursday night (no, not the fact that I’ve recently learned that the episode I actually enjoyed was a massive rip-off of a movie called SAW) was that right during the final ‘pivotal’ scenes of the episode, the WB chose to cover up half the screen with an advertisment for 7th HEAVEN’s final 3 episodes. Aside from the fact that I don’t think it’s necessary to plug the show every 10 minutes, and the fact that the little ad takes up half the screen, the interesting thing about this is that the WB is not saying ‘the series finale of 7th HEAVEN’. While some may think I’m reading into things a bit, I am firmly planted in the camp that believes the new CW network is desperately trying to figure out a way to bring back the show for one more season.
At this point you’re probably asking yourself why the CW feels the need to bring back possibly the cheesiest (and most beloved) family show in history? Well simply put, the show still attracts a very large and desirable audience. One that I’m sure the CW wants to bring over from the WB when the new network starts in the fall. I’m not willing to bet ‘the farm’ (considering I don’t actually own a farm), but I do believe we will be seeing 7th Heaven make a return in some form or another in Fall 06 (possibly a Lucy/Kevin spin-off).
The return of 7th HEAVEN is not good news for fans of quality TV. Besides the fact that I’m far from a 7th HEAVEN fan, the return of 7th HEAVEN means one less spot for an hour long drama on the new CW. EVERWOOD and VERONICA MARS do not need anymore competition then they already have!
One more random CW musing for a rainy Saturday. I’m wondering if the CW regrets the WB cancelling SUMMERLAND? Since the enormous success of HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL (a guilty guilty guilty pleasure of this TV addict), Lead Zac Efron has been catipulted into this year’s teen idol. Summerland starring Lori, Zac, Jesse et al would no doubt have made an excellent attraction for the young audience the CW craves?
In Love with BIG LOVE
I know I’m on a bit of a post rampage today, but frankly, it’s raining outside and I have nothing interesting to do except work or catch up on TV (what would you choose?). I just finished watching episode 5 of BIG LOVE, and as my post’s title suggests, I’m in love with this show.
The episode entitled ‘Affair’ not suprisingly revolves around Bill ‘cheating’ on his two wives to spend more time with his first wife (and my personal favourite) Barb (incredibly portrayed by Jeanne Tripplehorn). Watching these three very different woman deal with their marriage situation is way too much fun.
Barb: She’s definitely Bill’s true love, and at times I feel so bad that she has to put up with what she does (especially Nikki). I hope as the season continues, we learn more why she agreed to enter into the world of polygamy.
Nikki: Undeniably the most devious of the wives. She is completely out for herself, concerned with her own agenda and massive secret credit card debt that has piled up to about 60k. I will give her credit though, in the episode I just watched, she stood up for the family, which was great. It was also nice to get confirmation on a theory I already believed – that Bill married her purely for financial reasons.
Margene: The new girl on the block. She is so young, naive and adorable. I feel so bad for her, yet am loving her new found confidence. I can’t wait until the neighbours start setting her up on dates. (As they believe her husband was killed in the Gulf War!)
If you don’t watch BIG LOVE, no doubt you have no idea what I’m rambling about. But if you get HBO (or TMN for my fellow Canadians), definitely give the show a chance. It’s getting better with each episode. (Also, if you’re fans of VERONICA MARS, Mac, Lilly Kane and Cassidy are on the show!)
