I did not see that coming. After seven years of watching WILL & GRACE, I really thought I had that ‘unique ability’ to predict how each episode would end. After Will’s fight with his Dad, the episode just screamed for that silent ‘serious’ ending, with a ‘to be continued…’ But for Will’s dad to die, a suprise of ‘LOST’ proportions. It’s strange how I’ve been completely missing the obvious on this show. When Grace became pregnant, I naturally assumed Leo would come back and Grace would marry him. Yet that wouldn’t really be a happy ending for all our beloved characters. The ending was clear last night when it became quite evident that Will & Grace (hence, the name!) would be raising the baby together. A fitting end, afterall, if the show taught us anything, it’s that great friends are as good as family (cue NBC’s ‘the more you know’ music).

Gilmore Girls, Scrubs and More
[warning: the following is an unedited rant on two of my favourite shows from last night, read at your own risk] GILMORE GIRLS used to be a pleasure to watch, a joy in fact – essentially the perfect hour of television. Unfortunately, this season has been completely uneven, with emotional highs and lows, family seperations, and now yet more obstacles on the road to happiness. Last night’s episode was a unmitigated low. The problem of course, stems from Luke and Lorelai’s relationship. Creator Amy Sherman Palladine (ASP for short) obviously has tried to create some friction in the relationship with a new ‘mystery’ daughter, but the story simply put, blows as much as an episode of According to Jim. The spark has dissappeared from Luke and Lorelai – and that spark is what kept Stars Hollow magical for all these years. Without our leading couple happy, I am simply not enjoying the show. The high point of every episode should not be Paris Gellar, but yet again it is (The show isn’t called the “Wacky Adventures of Paris Gellar’ not that I wouldn’t love an all Paris channel (no hiltons allowed – sorry, I’ll stop this mindless rambling, we all know that Paris is amazing in small doises, and her own show would no doubt be a colossal failure, or what i like to call a ‘Joey.) But I digress. Lane getting married and Miss Kim being okay with it.. do these two kids have any realistic future at all? musicians… hit song… I don’t think so. Don’t even get me started on Rory and her messed up relationship. Let’s hope the final 5 episodes end the season of on a high note, or this season will go down as the worst in GG’s illustrious history. [rant over, breathe]
On to happier things: I don’t think SCRUBS could be anymore brilliant. I’ve just finished watching Tonight’s episode, and I’m trying to think of how I can actually convey how great the show is in words. Since I’m not a genius Scrubs writer, I won’t even try. It’s almost as if I have to re-watch the entire episode to remember all the jokes. How many gags can the writers fit into one episode… JD and Turk dishing about the Gilmore Girls, I was going to die (except that the show is Tuesdays, how were they watching it on Thursday?). Dr. Cox meditative state….Jordan and Perry on a double date (being drugged!) J.D’s big butt dance, I almost spit milk out of my nose. JD in black paint face… JD with no hair… (how did they know I like crackers?)… Lawyer guy with his ‘mobile phone’, the Todd…The show is a never ending roller coaster of laughs… something I really needed after sitting through a dissappointing installment of Gilmore Girls!
Extreme Makeover Scandal!
The Smoking Gun has obtained a memo written by an ABC executive sent out to ABC affiliates, chronicling the tragic stories that Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is hoping to feature for new episodes this fall. Some tragedies the show is searching for:
• Extraordinary Mom/Dad recently diagnosed with ALS
• Family who has a child w/Progeria (aka ‘little old man disease’)
• Family with a kid who can’t feel physical pain (*tvaddict note: wouldn’t that make him a superhero, just like UNBREAKABLE, that would be awesome!)
• Family suffering from Drunk Driving tragedy
• Victims of hate crime in own home. Family’s house victim of arson or severely vandalized
This story is making ‘headlines’ throughout North America. My question: Why is anyone suprised by this? Extreme Makeover only works because I pretty much can’t watch the show without a box of kleenex by my side. Sure the producers are completely exploiting family tragedy – but the family’s life is truly transformed, have you seen how incredible the renovated houses are? It really is a win/win situation for all.
Weekend Watching
If you’re planning your weekend TV watching and you’re a fan of THE OFFICE (BBC version) and THE SIMPSONS, this week is for you! Sunday’s episode of the SIMPSONS was written by none other then Ricky Gervais. In the episode Ricky plays ‘Charles,’ a man who is acting as Marge’s new husband in a Trading Spouses type reality tv show.
Also on the radar this week (at least for theTVaddict) is new episodes of THE WEST WING (more Josh & Donna), BIG LOVE (a very interesting family dynamic), and Desperate Housewives.
Animated News
theTVaddict.com has learned that FOX has recently re-upped their deals with the SIMPSONS and KING OF THE HILL for two more seasons. While I’m not at all suprised that the SIMPSONS will be returning for their 18th and 19th season, I was under the impression that KING OF THE HILL would wrap up after next season (FOX has a lot of episodes in the can since the show is constantly being pre-empted for Football).
Another interesting rumour that has been floating around is that FUTURAMA is about to pull a ‘Family Guy’ and be brought back from the dead (due to the popularity of the DVD’s and episodes on the Cartoon Network). According to Billy West (the voice of Fry on Futurama), Producers Matt Groening and David X. Cohen have reached a deal for 26 more episodes of the series. Whether they’ll air on FOX or the cartoon network remain to be seen.
I wish I worked at Dunder Mifflin
No TV show makes working a mundane 9-5 job so appealing as NBC’s THE OFFICE. Tonight’s episode centered around ‘take your daughter to work day’. Naturally hilarity ensued as each Dunder Mifflin employee interacted with the visiting kids. There were so many great moments and quotes I’d like to pull out from the episode. My three favourite are as follows:
1) The kids debating Michael on the value of Dunder Mifflin… doesn’t Office Depot do a better job? That was great. Pointing out the obvious… what exactly is the point of Dunder Mifflin?
2) Dwight explaining at the end of the episode how in the olden days, kids were highly valued by the Schrute Family as little workers (or food if there was a bad harvest!).
3) A young Michael Scott in a suit was so funny. It was funny and sad at the same time when Michael realized he hadn’t accomplished his goals of starting a family.
This show keeps getting funnier and funnier. I look forward to future episodes, where hopefully we’ll get to see how Michael’s online dating life is treating him! (At the end of the episode, Michael, realizing that he hasn’t gotten married or had kids yet, created an online dating profile to help reach his goal of having a family).
In other fantastic OFFICE news, fellow Office addicts won’t have to wait till Fall06 to get their Office Fix. NBC is planning to shoot 10 online-only “webisodes” of its critically acclaimed comedy to air during the summer. The new material will bring some of the show’s supporting players front and center as the Dunder Mifflin accounting staff searches for a stash of cash that’s gone missing from the Scranton office.

BIG LOVE
So I’m reading this morning’s New York Times (WOW, I sound smarter just by saying that), and as I’m flipping through the wedding announcements,, I notice on the bottom of the page there are three large wedding announcements. The strange thing was that each bride was getting married to one ‘Bill Henrickson’. Right away I clued into a brilliant marketing campaign for tonight’s premiere of HBO’s newest dysfunctional family – BIG LOVE. I’m really excited to be able to start from scratch on HBO’s newest hit drama. Having missed the premieres of both The Sopranos and Six Feet Under – I’m happy to be driving this bandwagon instead of jumping on after the fact. BIG LOVE premieres tonight on HBO (or TMN if you’re in Canada) at 10pm
On Set Report: Gilmore Girls
Today was a TVtastic day! It started off with a tour of the WB studio. The tour lasted about two hours, and we got to see some pretty cool sites. Most notably the sets of ER, Related, and most importantly the GILMORE GIRLS! (I’m also pretty sure I saw Lauren Graham from a distance!) Actual celebrity sightings included Scott Grimes from ER, and Lori Loughlin (formerly of Summerland and Full House)
The amazing thing about the Gilmore Girls set (or sets in general) is how small they are in real life. TV gives everything so much more depth. The Dragonfly Inn looks tiny up close, so does Lorelai’s house (I’ll post photos next week). The other thing I learned is that all props are barcoded and archived. I found this out as I tried to steal some plates from the Dragonfly Inn – I’M SO KIDDING. But seriously, each prop, whether it’s a painting, spoon, or fake picture frame is barcoded. This way the WB knows what show each set piece has been on – thus the WB is able to assign a value to everything if they ever want to sell it. How cool is that!?!?!?
Later today I’ll post my report from the FAMILY GUY event at the Paley Festival. Needless to say it was pretty much the funniest two hours ever!
My 90210 Adventure Continues…
So my adventure in 90210 continues today with a trip to the WB Studios. I’m really hoping I run into Amy-Sherman Palladino (Gilmore Girls Creator) so I can ask her what the FRACK is going on with the show this season. I imagine my conversation will go something like this…
Me: OHMYGOD AMYSHERMANPALLADINO I LOVE YOU!
ASP: Ummmmm, thank you… SECURITY….SECURITY
But seriously, I would love to just see her and say Hi and tell her how I brilliant I think she is. Of course, she’ll take one look at me and think ‘Rory’s New Boyfriend.’ Rory needs a little revenge after Logan’s ‘On a Break Relationships.’ I should add that I always look great in a Tux and would make a fantastic date to Lane’s wedding. Hell, I’ll go with Miss Patty if I have to!
Back to reality. Tonight I’m going to the FAMILY GUY event at the Paley Festival. While it wasn’t my first choice (I’d kill to have seen the BSG, Entourage, or Grey’s event) it was the only one that fit into my schedule and I think it will be really funny.
Check back tomorrow for what I hope will be a really funny report.
