ABC Renews Shows and Announces New Series for 2020-2021 Season

Today ABC announced the renewal of 13 of its exisiting shows (in addition to the shows it already renewed) and the pick-up of its new series for next season.

First, the network has renewed: AMERICAN HOUSEWIFE (season 5), THE BACHELOR (season 25), BLACK-ISH (season 7), THE CONNORS (season 3), DANCING WITH THE STARS (Season 29), THE GOLDBERGS (season 8), A MILLION LITTLE THINGS (season 3), MIXED-ISH (season 2), THE ROOKIE (season 3), SHARK TANK (season 12), STUMPTOWN (season 2), 20/20 (season 43), WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE (season 2).

Other renewed shows previously announced includes: THE BACHELORETTE, THE GOOD DOCTOR, GREY’S ANATOMY, STATION 19 and SUPERMARKET SWEEP.

In addition, the network picked up two new shows. BIG SKY is from David E. Kelley. “Private detectives Cassie Dewell and Cody Hoyt join forces with his estranged wife and ex-cop, Jenny Hoyt, to search for two sisters who have been kidnapped by a truck driver on a remote highway in Montana. But when they discover that these are not the only girls who have disappeared in the area, they must race against the clock to stop the killer before another woman is taken.” The case includes Katheryn Winnick as Jenny Hoyt, Kylie Bunbury as Cassie Dewell, Brian Geraghty as Ronald Pergman, Dedee Pfeiffer as Denise Brisbane, Natalie Alyn Lind as Danielle Sullivan, Jesse James Keitel as Jerrie, with John Carroll Lynch as Rick Legarski and Ryan Phillippe as Cody Hoyt.

Meanwhile, CALL YOUR MOTHER is a new multicamera comedy. It “follows an empty-nester mom who wonders how she ended up alone while her children live their best lives thousands of miles away. She decides her place is with her family and as she reinserts herself into their lives, her kids realize they might actually need her more than they thought.” The cast includes Kyra Sedgwick as Jean Raines, Rachel Sennott as Jackie Raines, Joey Bragg as Freddie Raines, Patrick Brammall as Danny, Emma Caymares as Celia and Austin Crute as Lane.

May 2020 Premiere Dates: New and Returning Shows

The CW Teasers: SUPERNATURAL Returns and ROSWELL, New Mexico Premieres

What’s coming to The CW the week of March 15? SUPERNATURAL returns from its final hiatus, while ROSWELL, New Mexico will air its season premiere. Meanwhile, the Legends will encounter William Shakespeare on DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW.

Sunday, March 15

  • BATWOMAN 1.15 “Off With Her Head”: More of Alice’s (Rachel Skarsten) dark past is uncovered when Cartwright (guest star John Emmet Tracy) shares a twisted story with Kate (Ruby Rose) while Jacob (Dougray Scott) goes searching for his wayward daughter. Mary (Nicole Kang) and Luke (Camrus Johnson) follow a lead on Beth’s killer. Holly Dale directed the episode written by Natalie Abrams.
  • SUPERGIRL 5.15 “Reality Bytes”: Nia’s (Nicole Maines) roommate, Yvette (guest star Roxy Wood), is attacked by a man targeting Dreamer because he doesn’t like that Dreamer is transgender and wants her to quit being a superhero. Determined to protect her community from additional harm, Dreamer refuses to give into his threats and puts herself in the line of fire to stop him. Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) stands by Dreamer and enlists additional help from Brainy (Jesse Rath). Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh), J’onn (David Harewood) and Kelly (Azie Tesfai) attempt to rescue a man stuck inside a virtual reality escape room. Armen V. Kevorkian directed the episode written by Dana Horgan & Jay Faerber.

To prepare for this incredibly risky séance, they set off to investigate the last few hours of Lucy Sable’s life. First Look at CBS’ New Comedies: BOB HEARTS ABISHOLA, CAROL’S SECOND ACT, BROKE and THE UNICORN

In addition to four new drama series, CBS is bringing four new comedy shows to its 2019-2020 schedule. BOB HEARTS ABISHOLA is from creator Chuck Lorree and is described as “a love story about a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit who unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack and sets his sights on winning her over. Undaunted by Abishola’s lack of initial interest or the vast differences in their backgrounds, Bob is determined to win Abishola’s heart, in this comedic examination of immigrant life in America.”

Meanwhile, CAROL’S SECOND ACT is about a woman who decides to embark on a second act after raising her children, getting a divorce and retiring from her teaching job. At age 50, she decides to become a doctor. But as a medical intern, she has to deal with people who are half her age. CAROL’S SECOND ACT stars Patricia Heaton as Carol Kenney, Kyle MacLachlan as Dr. Frost, Ito Aghayere as Dr. Maya Jacobs, Jean-Luc Bilodeau as Daniel and Sabrina Jalees as Lexie. THE UNICORN is a new comedy series about a group of best friends and family who try to help Wade embrace his new life after the death of his wife one year ago. “As a sometimes ill-equipped but always devoted single parent to his two adolescent daughters, he is taking the major step of dating again. What’s coming to The CW the week of January 20? Donna is returning to SUPERNATURAL, while Fallon is taking her crew on a girls’ trip on DYNASTY. Over on SUPERGIRL, Colonel Haley wants to try and learn Supergirl’s true identity, while Oliver tries to get back to his normal life on ARROW.

  • SUPERGIRL 4.10 “Suspicious Minds”: Colonel Haley (April Parker Jones) is upset after Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) responds to a distress call from a Navy ship that turned out to be a deadly alien attack. Colonel Haley reclaims the site as DEO territory and demands that Supergirl step aside. After Supergirl refuses to be told what to do, Haley refocuses her energy on finding out Supergirl’s true identity and begins to interrogate all DEO agents, including Alex (Chyler Leigh). Meanwhile, Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath) tries to persuade Nia (Nicole Maines) to embrace her superpowers but she misinterprets his motives. Rachel Talalay directed the episode written by Maria Maggenti & Gabriel Llanas.
  • CHARMED 1.10 “Keep Calm and Harry On”: The sisters turn to The Elders for advice about Harry (Rupert Evans).  Mel (Melonie Diaz), fed up with The Elders rules, turns to Jada (guest star Aleyse Shannon) for help without telling her sisters.  With a plan in place, they must face an unexpected threat which leads Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) to find a strength she didn’t know she had.  Meanwhile, Galvin (Ser’Darius Blain) shares some shocking news with Macy (Madeleine Mantock) that will change everything.  Nick Hargrove also stars. What is Coming to Hulu in January 2019

The second season of ATLANTA is coming to Hulu in January 2019, as is the latest season of the original Hulu series FUTURE MAN and season 11 of THE X-FILES. TV fans can also stream the newest season of BROOKLYN NINE-NINE (recently saved from cancellation by NBC) and the new Fox show THE PASSAGE. What’s coming to The CW the week of November 11? Charlie will be returning to SUPERNATURAL (at least, the alternate universe version of her), Felicity will learn a shocking secret about her husband  on ARROW and Veronica plots a dangerous plan on RIVERDALE.

Sunday, November 11

  • SUPERGIRL 4.05 “Parasite Lost”: Colonel Haley (April Parker Jones) makes a surprising decision regarding Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Kara writes s series of articles highlighting aliens in National City in the hopes that humans will stop being so fearful of them. Unfortunately, the article puts some of the aliens in harm’s way. David Mcwhirter directed the episode written by Maria Maggenti & Aadrita Mukerji.
  • CHARMED 1.05 “Other Women”: Mel (Melonie Diaz) is worried about Niko’s (Ellen Tamaki) safety, so Mel and Harry (Rupert Evans) come up with a plan to protect her, but Mel will need her sisters’ help. Maggie (Sarah Jeffery) notices that Macy (Madeleine Mantock) is upset about her situation with Galvin (Ser’Darius Blain), so she offers to do some recon with her, but they discover that things might not be exactly what they seem. Meanwhile, Maggie’s sorority sister Lucy (guest star Natalie Hall) turns to her for some help, but Maggie struggles with telling her the truth because it could jeopardize her sorority future. Amyn Kaderali directed the episode written by George Northy.

Monday, November 12

  • ARROW 7.05 “The Demon”: Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) learns something new about Oliver (Stephen Amell) that shocks her. Meanwhile, Diggle (David Ramsey) asks Curtis (Echo Kellum) to go undercover for ARGUS. Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) works with an unlikely ally. Mark Bunting directed the episode written by Benjamin Raab & Deric A. Hughes.
  • DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW 4.04 “Wet Hot American Bummer”: When the Legends discover that kids at a summer camp have disappeared, Sara (Caity Lotz), Ava (Jes Macallan), Ray (Brandon Routh) and Constantine (Matt Ryan) find themselves as the new camp counselors. At camp, Ava struggles to get along with the kids, but Constantine whips up a potion that helps Sara and Ava bond with the children. Luckily, the team finds clues to the whereabouts of the missing kids, but the battle to save them leaves one member in bad shape. Meanwhile, Rory (Dominic Purcell) and Zari (Tala Ashe) are tasked with watching the fugitive and Rory finds a kindship with their “prisoner.” Maisie Richardson-Sellers also stars. David Geddes directed the episode written by Ray Utarnachitt & Tyron B. Carter/

  • THE FLASH 5.05 “All Doll’d Up”: Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) lets something slip about the future that devastates Iris (Candice Patton). In an attempt to distract his wife, Barry (Grant Gustin) asks Iris to team up to stop a new meta, Rag Doll (guest star Troy James). Meanwhile, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) learns something about her father. Phil Chipera directed the episode written by Thomas Pound & Sterling Gates.
  • BLACK LIGHTNING 2.05 “The Book of Blood: Chapter One”: Jefferson (Cress Williams) and Anissa (Nafessa Williams) work together investigating the hometown of a creepy man at the clinic and make a shocking discovery. Meanwhile, with Syonide gone, Tobias (Marvin Jones III) puts an increasing amount of pressure on Khalil (Jordan Calloway) to help fill some of the void left in the organization. China Anne McClain, Christine Adams, Damon Gupton, Jordan Calloway and James Remar also star. Michael Schultz directed the episode written by Lamont Magee.

    Wednesday, November 14

  • RIVERDALE 3.05 “Chapter Forty: The Great Escape”: After weeks go by with no contact from Archie (KJ Apa), Veronica (Camila Mendes) devises a dangerous plan to break him out of juvie. Meanwhile, when Betty (Lili Reinhart) learns that Jughead (Cole Sprouse) has taken their investigation into Griffins & Gargoyles a step too far, she finds herself in a race against the clock to save him. Madelaine Petsch, Marisol Nichols, Ashleigh Murray, Mark Consuelos, Skeet Ulrich, Casey Cott, Charles Melton and Vanessa Morgan also star. Pamela Romanowsky directed the episode written by Greg Murray & Ace Hasan.
  • ALL AMERICAN 1.05 “All We Got”: Spencer’s (Daniel Ezra) worlds come together to celebrate his birthday in Beverly Hills. But mixing the dysfunctional families – with the dash of an unexpected guest – ends in disaster. Olivia (Samantha Logan) and Jordan (Michael Evans Behling), on a mission to uncover a family secret, discover a missing link to their father’s past. Meanwhile, Coop (Bre-Z) and Patience (guest star Chelsea Tavares) struggle to define their blossoming romance.  Taye Diggs, Cody Christian, Monet Mazur, Greta Onieogou, Karimah Westbrook and Jalyn Hall also star. The episode was written by Robert D. Doty and Lorna Osunsanmi and was directed by Rose Troche.

Thursday, November 15

  • SUPERNATURAL 14.06 “Optimism”: Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Charlie (guest star Felicia Day) team up to get to the bottom of a string of random disappearances. Meanwhile, Jack believes that he has found a case and convinces Dean (Jensen Ackles) to partner-up with him on the hunt. Richard Speight Jr. directed the episode written by Steve Yockey.
  • LEGACIES 1.04 “Hope is Not the Goal”: When two local students go missing, Alaric (Matthew Davis) sends Hope (Danielle Rose Russell), Lizzie (Jenny Boyd), MG (Quincy Fouse) and Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) to Mystic Falls High to investigate. Meanwhile, as Josie (Kaylee Bryant) helps Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) adjust to his new life at the school, his reluctance to follow the wolf pack’s rules puts a target on his back. Lastly, an unsettling discovery puts Alaric and Sheriff Donovan (guest star Zach Roerig) at odds with one another. Chris Grismer directed the episode with story by Brett Mathews and teleplay by Bryce Ahart & Stephanie McFarlane.

Friday, November 16

  • DYNASTY 2.06 “That Witch”: Hoping to put Liam (guest star Adam Huber) in the rear-view, Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) fights to prove to Culhane’s (Robert Christopher Riley) family, and to herself, that Culhane is her one and only. Blake (Grant Show) and Cristal (Ana Brenda Contreras) struggle to keep their courtship alive as a paranoid Alexis (Nicollette Sheridan) derails their holiday plans. Maddison Brown, Alan Dale, Rafael de la Fuente, Sam Adegoke and James Mackay also star.   Josh Reims and Libby Wells wrote the episode, which was directed by Tessa Blake.
  • CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND 4.06 “I See You”: Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) gets more than she bargained for during a day out with Darryl (Pete Gardner). Josh (Vincent Rodriguez III) lends a helping hand to Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin), while Heather (Vella Lovell) encourages Nathaniel (Scott Michael Foster) to be a nice person. Gabrielle Ruiz and Vincent Rodriguez III also star. Jack Dolgen wrote the episode, directed by Dan Gregor.
