Eddie McClintock and Saul Rubinek Preview Season 4 of WAREHOUSE 13

July 23, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

After last season’s shocking and tragic finale, WAREHOUSE 13 has some serious rebuilding to do.  With Agent Steve Jinks, Mrs. Frederic and H.G. Wells all dead, and the Warehouse being blown to smithereens, it is hard to imagine what other dark times lie ahead for the spunky, stalwart and normally cheerful Warehouse Agents Artie, Myka, Pete and Claudia.  But with an unprecedented 20-episodes to play with this next season, there is plenty of time to explore how they all make it back from the dark days and find a way to interject some more fun-and-games back into the world we know of in WAREHOUSE 13.  In a recent press conference call, co-stars Eddie McClintock and Saul Rubinek shared their candid thoughts on what is next for the 4th season. The Fall of Smart TV: Why It is Disappearing Off The Television Landscape?

April 26, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt 4 Comments

The past decade of television has offered some of the best shows to ever grace the celluloid small screen.  Critics and fans agree that shows like LOST, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, DEXTER, 24, THE WEST WING, HOUSE, DEADWOOD, THE WIRE, and THE SHIELD were among this “golden renaissance” era; and they paved the way for shows like THE GOOD WIFE, BREAKING BAD, MAD MEN, DAMAGES, JUSTIFIED, HOMELAND, LUTHER, SONS OF ANARCHY, SHERLOCK, and DOWNTON ABBEY.  These are just a few of the multitude of extraordinary shows that sprang up in this creative climate when studios and television viewers were willing to embrace shows that were a little more cutting-edge and outside-the-box than television of years past.

However, that “hey day” seems to be slipping away.  It is getting harder and harder to get television audiences to checkout and stick with television shows that are considered “thinking” shows. Back at the height of their popularity shows like HOUSE and LOST commanded 24-27 million viewers.  But that was several years ago.  LOST fell to below 10 million viewers when it ended its run, and HOUSE is limping out with a weekly average of 6 million viewers.  Creatively, these shows have been strong from beginning to end.  Instead, what happened was viewer-fatigue.  Shows that last more than 5 years are a rarity on television today.  There are the procedurals that are still going strong, but as popular and well-done as they are, these are not the type of shows you think of when you hear the phrase “smart TV.”  They are along the lines of “safe TV” – well-crafted and consistent, and they resolve their weekly stories in easy fashion.

As much as pains us to consider it, shows like THE WEST WING and LOST would fail miserably in today’s television climate.  Why?  Because viewers are tired of shows that make them think that hard.  [Read more…]

Paley Festival 2012 Live Blog: MODERN FAMILY

March 16, 2012 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

7:30PM: On Wednesday night, MODERN FAMILY closed out the 2012 Paley Festival with a fantastic panel moderated by Variety’s Cynthia Littleton that featured stars Rico Rodriguez (Manny), Nolan Gould (Luke), Ariel Winter (Alex), Sarah Hyland (Haley), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell), Eric Stonestreet (Cameron), Julie Bowen (Claire), Ty Burrell (Phil), Sofia Vergara (Gloria), Ed O’Neill (Jay) and co-creator/executive producer Steven Levitan.

7:32PM: “He likes the show, he’s a great guy and a wonderful director,” said co-creator Steven Levitan on what brought BREAKING BAD’s Bryan Cranston to the show as a director. “It was a lot of pressure being directed by Bryan Cranston, because every time he gave you a note, you know he could do it better,” admitted Ty Burrell. Joked Eric Stonestreet, who also added that it was a nice full-circle moment having done a bit part on MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE when he was first starting out in the biz, “We love meth, so it really worked out.”

7:35PM: “Every morning I get to wake up and get to come to this job is a highlight,” was how Burrell characterized his favorite moments from this past season. Julie Bowen, who plays Burrell’s on-screen wife concurred, calling the table reads a sneak peek at just how much fun their week is going to be.

7:38PM: So just what do the younger members of the MODERN FAMILY family think about their time spent on the series? Situated together on the far right of the stage actors Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould, Ariel Winter and Sarah Hyland pretty much all agree that the show is their second family with Winter amazed at how fast time flies, Gould calling out his on-screen mother Julie Bowen for constantly fussing with his hair and Rodriguez crediting the older cast members — particularly Ed O’Neill — with helping him become a better actor. Teased Jesse Tyler Ferguson “Just like we taught you!” [Read more…]

Paley Festival 2012 Live Blog: REVENGE

March 12, 2012 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

1:25PM: Back again following Saturday’s VAMPIRE DIARIES panel, TV Guide Magazine’s Debra Birnbaum introduces members from the cast and creative team of REVENGE including Nick Wechsler (Jack), Ashley Madekwe (Ashley), Josh Bowman (Daniel), Henry Czerny (Conrad), Executive Producer Marty Bowen, Madeleine Stowe (Victoria), Creator Mike Kelley, Emily VanCamp (Emily), Gabriel Mann (Nolan), Connor Paulo (Declan) and Christa B. Allen (Charlotte)

1:26PM: We just discovered that Josh Bowman has a British accent!

1:27PM: “The plan was it to always be Tyler,” admits Kelley following a first question that has moderator Debra Birnbaum wondering if the plan was always for it to be Tyler’s dead body on the beach. “The audience would have freaked out if we had killed Daniel and turned off the TV in droves!”

1:30PM: “We have an idea where we want this season to end and obviously we’re ending with a cliffhanger!” says Kelley on his overall plan for the rest of the season. “If we’re lucky enough to get a second season we’re going to see another giant event that will resolve somewhat through midseason allowing us the opportunity to play through with the aftermath, which is what you’ll see over the course of the next few episodes this season. With the final two episodes of the season really setting up some new drama, alliances and incidents.” [Read more…]
