Anime series that need to be on your list

June 22, 2022 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Latest figures have revealed that anime accounts for 60% of the world’s animation entertainment with fans hailing from all over the world. While it might have originated in Japan, new anime streaming services like Funimation and an increasing number of anime titles on Netflix have meant that anime is now being enjoyed by more people than ever.

If you’re new to the genre, you might be wondering where exactly to start. Fear not, as we’ve rounded up some of the most popular anime titles that definitely deserve to be on your list. What’s more, all of these are available on Netflix so you don’t need to worry about missing out.

Hunter x Hunter
The supernatural theme is popular in American TV but Hunter x Hunter does it well for anime. The story follows Gon Freecss who dreams of becoming a Hunter. He befriends a young boy who comes from a family of assassins and a friendship is sparked. While we won’t give anything away as to whether Gon becomes a Hunter, we can reveal that the backstory of each character has been cleverly thought out. As well as the main storyline, there are a lot of subplots and valuable lessons to be learned along the way. Even if you weren’t a fan of anime before, the sheer determination shown by the characters is sure to sway you.

Naruto
This Japanese manga series was created by Masashi Kishimoto and follows the story of a young ninja in their local village. With a dream of getting recognition from his peers and becoming the village leader, the full TV series follows Naruto as he tackles adventures, setbacks and knockdowns. Over the past 20 years, new series have been released, as well as movies and spin-offs, which has led to confusion over the complete watch order for Naruto. If you start with the original 2002 series, before heading to the 2007 series and then the most recent 2017 edition, you’ll get a good grasp of the characters and storyline though.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Spirited Away might be the highest-grossing Japanese film ever, but the TV series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba broke these records. It follows the story of a demon slayer, Tanjiro Kamado, as he attempts to save his sister who has been transformed into a demon. The setting is praised by fans, the characters are sympathetic and the graphics from Ufotable are some of the best around.

Baki
Another popular anime TV series is Baki, which is a story about a fighter who is training to be better than his father, who is the strongest fighter in the world. It’s action-packed and boasts lots of tense fights and adventures, but the story of a father and his son has gripped fans all over the world. It’s not just muscles and strength though as there are lots of subplots and emotional scenes to enjoy too!
These are just a selection of some of the anime TV series available on Netflix. The truth is, whether you want a TV show that’s centered around relationships, adventure or a little bit of both, you’re sure to find an anime title to suit.

Five TV shows you have to watch if you like Harry Potter

April 19, 2022 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

Using popular streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, people are able to access a variety of television shows and movies with ease. One movie that has registered huge success in recent times, despite not being available on many mainstream streaming platforms, is Harry Potter. The wizard-themed adventures, written by British author J. K. Rowling, have captivated global audiences and inspired many similar releases since.

These days, wizard-themed television shows are particularly popular and have a dedicated and loyal following of fans behind them. This type of target audience typically supplements its wizard watching with a variety of other wizard-themed adventures, too, be it in the Blue Wizard slot game or through reading about Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings. Ultimately, wizards have featured prominently in a variety of memorable products over the years. Of course, for many, Harry Potter is the ultimate option in this particular category, but Harry, Hermione and Ron aren’t the only options. With that in mind, below is a look at some popular TV shows fans of Harry Potter have to see.

Charmed
With sister witches and an array of dark beings to see off, Charmed contains a lot of features that fans of Harry Potter will surely like. Spanning over eight seasons and with a dedicated community of fans behind it, Charmed provides viewers with everything from memorable fight scenes to elements of the supernatural. Once you’ve dived into the show, you’ll certainly want to learn more about the adventures of the Halliwell sisters, especially as their powers become more and more evident.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer
A classic television show that many grey-haired readers might have grown up with, Buffy The Vampire Slayer doesn’t offer the wizard-filled action of Harry Potter but it certainly does an excellent job of highlighting various aspects of mythology and features a variety of powerful characters. Following the story of Buffy, a vampire slayer, you’ll be exposed to all of her powers, strength and agility in this vampire-filled treat. Although Buffy The Vampire Slayer isn’t the same as Harry Potter in some respects, there are other details that make it hugely appealing to fans of J. K. Rowling’s fantasy novels.

The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina
Following the story of Sabrina, a half-human half-witch character, The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina is an entertaining watch. Featuring magic and an extensive selection of epic scenes, this particular show serves up a dose of spookiness and all-round entertainment. Sabrina is essentially struggling to accept who she is and what her power entails, instead preferring to stay alongside her friends and her partner. Sadly, though, for Sabrina, the life she wants isn’t necessarily meant for her.

Although Smallville champions superheroes more than a wizard way of life, it still shares plenty of parallels with Harry Potter. For example, the show features the same type of friendships and massive moments that Harry Potter does. Likewise, the show is centred around a young protagonist named Clark Kent (Superman) who has to adapt to a new life and be in control of his powers. As Harry has to protect the secrets of the wizarding world, so too does Clark Kent as he attempts to fight off all things evil.

The Magicians
Featured in an educational setting, namely a university to be precise, The Magicians is another popular show well worth checking out. A school for magicians, Brakebill University provides education on the world of magic and brings up and coming talent together in what is a truly entertaining watch. From teenage shenanigans to magic-themed mayhem, The Magicians has it all.

Most Surprising Adaptations of Popular TV Series

February 28, 2022 By theTVaddict Leave a Comment

When it comes to a successful TV show, writers and producers will go to great lengths to keep the story running and keep audiences engaged. And even once a series has ended, that doesn’t mean there won’t be some form of pop culture adaptation slated for release afterwards.

In fact, when it comes to adaptations for popular TV shows, famous characters, quotes, and set design often find a second life. But not all adaptations will touch on the aspects of a series that fans loved. Some are surprisingly offbeat.

Keep reading for some of the most famous TV shows that have seen odd (and, at times, successful) adaptations following the release of a new season or the end of the show.

Seinfeld, Online Slot
Though it seems natural that some of the most popular TV series earn a slots adaptation, the selected titles can be a bit surprising. For example, online casino Betway features multiple slots that started out as TV shows, including Survivor, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, and Game of Thrones.

All three examples highlight the types of TV shows that most often see representation in online casinos: fantasy-adventure themes and beloved reality TV. But the strangest outlier in terms of TV show adaptation is the sit-com Seinfeld.

The reels include a few nods to the series’ most beloved characters, scenes, and tropes; there’s even a special feature that unlocks the famous soup proprietor and, of course, the Festivus. Best of all, the game includes the same colors and styles famous in the 1990s when the series became a smash hit for NBC.

The Good Wife, Furniture Collection
When CBS’s The Good Wife took off in the early 2010s, most viewers were hooked on the show’s political drama. The main characters were lauded for their acting skills, while writers were applauded by critics even into the show’s fifth season.

Along the way, viewer interest didn’t focus solely on the acting. In fact, some were more concerned about the set design. Some viewers wrote in asking about color palettes for wall paint and furniture, while others asked about some of the accessories used to furnish the sets.

The result was a deal with Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, a luxury design and home furnishings group. The line was a crossover between office space and residential items with most pieces costing upwards of $1,000.

The Office, Video Game
Similar to online slots, most TV shows with strong themes of action, adventure, and drama tend to make for entertaining games of any stripe. However, as with sit-com Seinfeld, there are certain genres that don’t pair well with exciting action.

The Office is one of these titles—and it’s even more dead-pan than Seinfeld. Developers at MumboJumbo struggled to provide accurate depictions of characters, as well as a functional or enjoyable series of obstacles for gamers to overcome.

For some, interest in the game mirrored the series’ discussion of another (actual) video game titled Second Life. Unfortunately for the game developer and for fans of the series, the entire project felt just as uninspired as a day working nine-to-five in an office… minus all of the Michael Scott-led shenanigans.

Stranger Things, MLB Bobbleheads
Given what a smash hit Netflix’s Stranger Things series turned out to be, there’s been no shortage of product adaptations based on the supernatural thriller series. Along with a lovable set of characters, the show’s unique action scenes have hooked audiences around the world.

As such, some of the products associated with the series are weird, from a Demogorgon plushie to a Steve Harrington body pillow. However, few are as head-turning as the series’ official partnership with the MLB.

So, what does professional baseball have to do with Stranger Things? Not much, aside from the league’s hold on creating memorabilia bobbleheads. However, the project was a big success when launched in 2019. It featured various characters and franchises from the MLB, including the aforementioned Demogorgon.
