We’re Not in Stars Hollow Anymore! Kelly Bishop Talks BUNHEADS

June 25, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt 2 Comments

If 154 episiodes of the GILMORE GIRLS illustrated anything, it’s that Kelly Bishop knows a thing or two about playing a family matriarch. Which is why, it probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that when BUNHEADS creator Amy Sherman-Palladino was looking to cast another memorable mother, she looked to Bishop once again. But just what is it like re-teaming with Sherman-Palladino for another quasi-mother/daughter series and how does BUNHEADS differentiate from her time spent in Stars Hollow? We recently had the pleasure of catching up with Bishop on a recent conference call to find out just that. [Read more…]

Not Another Teen TV Star: Connor Jessup on Playing the Conflicted and Tormented Ben Mason on FALLING SKIES

June 24, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

An alien series would not be as spine-tinglingly intense and captivating if not for the one human survivor who has to fight against his own nature, and perhaps the enemy within, to survive. In the first season of FALLING SKIES, desperate father Tom Mason was driven to rescue and help his teenage son, Ben, who was one of the harnessed children abducted by the aliens. In portraying one of the harnessed abductees, stuck in captivity for months, young star Connor Jessup had a lot of heavy and complicated emotions to wrestle with and convey.

Yet, like Tom and Connor’s brothers Hal and Matt, as fans we became obsessed with how the rescue would be accomplished and whether it was really entirely possible for any of the harnessed children to return to some semblance of normalcy. Would they be able to fight off the powerful mind-control and compulsion instilled by the metal spikes driven into their spines? When it became apparent that Ben’s time in captivity and affixed to the harness had left residual physical effects, his father did the unthinkable and accepted the aliens’ invitation to come aboard and perhaps discover whether there was any hope for Ben. As seen in the second season premiere, Tom’s blind hopefulness was short-sighted and it made him a captive for a time aboard the mothership. Like father, like son, Tom and Ben’s time spent subject to alien torment has not left either unscathed. In an exclusive interview, Connor Jessup talked about the tough journey of Ben Mason and the emotional scars it has left the character with as he continues to retain his humanity. [Read more…]

TV Outside the Box: FALLING SKIES is More Than Just an Alien Invasion Show, It’s a Mystery!

June 22, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Like any master illusionist, the writers of FALLING SKIES have managed to catch our attention with a whole host of eerie aliens inhabiting a brand new apocalyptic world that barely resembles the world we know.  They scared us silly with the unstoppable machine-like Mechs that trample all in their path in a hail of bullets and firepower.  They terrified us with the introduction of the Skitters, the creepy bug crawlers that lurk in the darkness and who posses an uncanny intelligence that rivals our own.  Then, at the end of the first season, they beguiled us and teased us with the introduction of the Overlords, mysterious beings that beckoned with their long fingers and silently promised to reveal the answers that Tom Mason desperately sought to save his son.  But that promise was more an invitation to see why resistance was futile — and for a little personal payback for the recent attack which the survivors and 2nd Mass had struck against the aliens.  So while Tom’s hopeful mission to find a cure for his son Ben did yield answers, they were not the ones he was searching for.  [Read more…]

Meet the New Guy! SUITS Star Max Topplin Dishes on His Expanded Second Season Role at Pearson Hardman

June 21, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Television is never about just one or two characters; it is about the ensemble they work amongst to bring the stories to life each week and to give their fictional worlds a depth in their reality.  Recognizing that an established law firm like Pearson Hardman in SUITS would not have a rotating staff of young attorneys, the show brought on as a recurring actor, Max Topplin, who plays the long-suffering, yet hilarious new associate Harold. During a recent visit to the Toronto-based set of SUITS, Max described who Harold is and how he fits into the Pearson Hardman hierarchy. [Read more…]

Colin Cunningham Takes Us Inside the Mind of FALLING SKIES’ Morally Ambiguous John Pope

June 20, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt 1 Comment

The key to success to a great television show is creating a villain that you love to hate.  In the case of FALLING SKIES, it has provided us with the aliens and John Pope.  But the interesting thing about Pope is we are never really sure he is a villain.  He may not always play nice or fair with his fellow survivors, but he is just as passionate in his hatred of the aliens.  It’s kind of plays in to the old adage, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”  To help illuminate how Pope really sees himself in the fight against the aliens and his relationship with the rest of mankind, star Colin Cunningham provided his insight into the murky and conflicted mind of John Pope. SUITS Scoop: Meghan Markle and Rick Hoffman Dish on the Second Season Secrets Rocking the World of Pearson Hardman

June 19, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

One is the love interest to a dashing leading man, the other is the nemesis. Meghan Markle (Love interest Rachel Zane) and Rick Hoffman (Nemesis Louis Litt) may not see eye-to-eye very often, but one thing they can agree on is that when it comes to gigs, it certainly doesn’t get very much sweeter than SUITS. Or at least that was our takeaway during a recent visit to the Toronto-based set that saw Markle and Hoffman take a few minutes from shooting to share some juicy tidbits about the challenges looming on the horizon with regards to their respective characters.
