Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Lessons other Showrunners can learn from the awesomeness that is THE VAMPIRE DIARIES
The stakes are life and death, literally!
From the we-hardly-knew-ye Vicki (Kayla Ewell) and Jeremy’s dearly departed Anna (Malese Jow) to last night’s most recent victim that on the off chance you have yet to seen the episode we aren’t about to spoil here, if there is one thing we continue to marvel at when it comes to THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is the often expeditious way in which the creative team kills off characters — no matter how much of a fan favorite they’ve become, or how they look shirtless. Suffice to say, television is that much more exciting when you know that at any given moment, any one of the show’s plethora of supporting and guest starring characters are at a real risk of turning the common kitchen knife they were just moments ago using to help prepare dinner, and stabbing themselves in the stomach (again, go watch last night’s episode!)
Story moves faster than a locomotive.
And speaking of last night’s episode, as Elena, Bonnie and Caroline peered down the vervain-filled well that was rumored to have housed the moonstone that Katherine so desperately wanted, we couldn’t help but chuckle for a moment. Why? Well, if this were any other show, the episode might have quickly faded to black in an effort to tease yet another plot-line (cough*LOST**cough*cough). Thankfully, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES isn’t any other show and rather than continually stretch out the arrival of Katherine, the introduction of wolves to Mystic Falls and virtually every other plot twists that continues to be thrown at fans a mile-a-minute, co-creators Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec aren’t holding back anything. Including…

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: People Most Definitely Not Smarter Than a 5th Grader
The Parents Television Council (PTC)
In response to an upcoming issue of GQ which features a very revealing spread of GLEE stars Dianna Agron and Lea Michele in various states of undress, the PTC released a statement chastising the magazine for what they’re characterizing as “a disturbing spread… bordering on pedophilia.” Why they’re not smarter than a 5th grader: Because in the grand tradition of primetime television shows that take place in high school (see: Gabrielle Carteris, Ian Ziering and Luke Perry to name a few), the kids from GLEE aren’t actually teenagers! Memo to the PTC: It’s called acting! And in the same way in which Kevin McHale’s Artie isn’t really confined to a wheelchair and Cory Monteith sounds like a rock star with a little help from his friend called auto-tune, 24 year-olds Dianna Agron and Lea Michele are only pretending to play high school students.
Did the CW Just Green Light a VERONICA MARS Spin-off?
Of course not! But curiously enough, what the perennial fifth place network did do was hand out a script order to a series that sounds eerily familiar to the non-existent fourth season of VERONICA MARS that could have been. According to Deadline Hollywood, GOSSIP GIRL creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage have signed on to produce an untitled drama based on the idea by [and starring] Michelle Trachtenberg about a young criminology student with a gift for profiling and a dark past. According to us, now would be your cue to hit the comments below to express your outrage.

SURVIVOR NICARAGUA Recap: Two Boots, One Episode
By: Josh Wigler
Last Week: I missed last week’s recap, so here’s a brief rundown on everything that went down: the young and old tribes are no more thanks to a tribal reshuffling. Marty is on La Flor now and still thinks he’s in control, despite the fact that everyone on his new tribe thinks he’s fishy. Over at the new Espada, Tyrone disagrees with his tribe’s decision to slaughter and eat one of their chickens so soon, then turns around and eats the whole frickin’ thing on his own. After losing immunity, Espada cries fowl and Tyrone is out of the game, wearing egg on his face all the way home. Which brings us to this week’s episode…
Double Execution: Ah, the double boot. I love these episodes, particularly given the recent trend for SURVIVOR to include 20 contestants as opposed to the traditional 16. There are simply too many players for us to get to know everybody, and as a result, there’s weeding to be done. But the double boot is a double-edged sword; on the one hand, you get rid of unmemorable contestants like Yve. On the flip side, you lose the more interesting players like Kelly B. I suppose you can’t win ’em all.
One Foot in the Grave: I’ve made no secret about the fact that I’m not a Marty fan. He’s arrogant, borderline delusional, and nowhere near the player that he thinks he is. You could argue that Marty’s ability to manipulate Fabio this week was a sign of his genius, but I view it as more of a testament to Fabio’s obliviousness than Marty’s brilliance. In summary: Marty’s no mastermind, a B-grade SURVIVOR player at best.
