Snap Judgments: THE MINDY PROJECT, THE FOLLOWING, THE MOB DOCTOR, BEN & KATE and THE GOODWIN GAMES
THE MINDY PROJECT
According to the Official FOX Description: Created by Emmy-nominated writer/producer and New York Times best-selling author Mindy Kaling (THE OFFICE) and starring Kaling, Chris Messina (DAMAGES), Anna Camp (THE GOOD WIFE) and newcomer Ed Weeks, THE MINDY PROJECT features Kaling as a skilled OB/GYN navigating the tricky waters of both her personal and professional life, as she pursues her dreams of becoming the perfect woman, finding the perfect man and getting her perfect romantic comedy ending.
Why We’re Excited: Having already devoured her Tina Fey-esque book (“Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?”), not to mention relished every moment Kelly Kapoor’s talking head popped up in THE OFFICE, we’re quite confident that Mindy Kaling’s unique voice will translate quite well to her very own self-titled project.
Why We Probably Shouldn’t Let Our Excitement Get the Better of Us: The three minute and thirty seven second trailer doesn’t so much highlight Mindy Kaling’s unique voice as it does her infatuation with Bridget Jones and Bridesmaids. [Read more…]

Trailerpalooza: Your First Look at Fox’s Fall Offerings including THE MINDY PROJECT, THE FOLLOWING, THE MOB DOCTOR & More!
Is Mindy Kaling the new Zoey Deschanel? Is THE FOLLOWING’s Kevin Bacon the new Jack Bauer? Can THE MOB DOCTOR’s Jordana Spiro possibly fill the sizeable stethoscope left by the departing Hugh Laurie? In announcing their new slate of shows at their annual Upfront this week in New York City, Fox certainly hopes so. But hey, don’t take our word for it, see for yourself, after the jump. [Read more…]
Snap Judgments: REVOLUTION, GO ON, THE NEW NORMAL, ANIMAL PRACTICE, GUYS WITH KIDS and CHICAGO FIRE
REVOLUTION
According to the Official NBC Description: Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why?
Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down, the lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it?
On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman’s life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously – and unbeknownst to her – had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.
From director Jon Favreau (Iron Man) and the fertile imaginations of J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke (SUPERNATURAL), comes a surprising “what if” action-adventure series, where an unlikely hero will lead the world out of the dark. Literally.
Why We’re Excited: Umm… did you see that trailer?
Why We Probably Shouldn’t Let Our Excitement Get the Better of Us: FLASHFORWARD, THE EVENT, SURFACE, THRESHOLD, INVASION, THE NINE, and V are just a few of the shows in a long line of LOST wannabes that failed to live up to both their trailer and the hype. Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice… [Read more…]

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES’ Finale: All Whimper, No Bang
If when you arrive at the office this morning, you hear the word “lame” being bandied about, fear not, gentle reader. It’s likely that the water cooler talk is not about you, but about last night’s finale of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.
Now, I’ll admit: I went into the last-ever outing with low expectations. After all, since airing one of the most brilliant pilots in recent television history, this show has rarely — if ever — managed to recreate the very elements that originally drew me in. Over the years, the series devolved into uninspired, overly-long “mysteries” (Betty Applewhite, anyone?) and the type of humor that one would expect to find in a Saturday morning cartoon as opposed to a Sunday night sudser. The childish bickering that ensued after Julie’s water broke on the way to Renee’s wedding was everything wrong with HOUSEWIVES. Time and again, we sat through scenes in which supposedly-grown women acted like children. [Read more…]
