Previewing THE VAMPIRE DIARIES’ Very Special Prom Episode “Pictures of You”
Ever since Elena was turned into a vampire, the race has been on to find out if there was a cure to restore her humanity. Alas, that deadly search cost her the life of her brother Jeremy, and introduced a whole new big bad villain Silas, who will stop at nothing to get the cure for himself for his own nefarious purposes. So it is only too fitting that this week’s episode is themed around the song of the same name “Pictures of You by the music group The Cure. Clever.
The whole goal of this special prom episode was reminding Elena of her human life and finding a way to convince her to turn back on her emotions, for vampire without emotions is a threat to everyone. But Elena is bound and determined to preserve her carefree, emotionless vampire life. She does not see the need to be cured or to have human emotions back. She is having too much fun running around killing to her heart’s content, without regret.
Prom would normally be the epitome of all things great during high school. A girl attends with the boy of her dreams and wears a dress that memorializes that crowning moment for the rest of her life. It is a night literally worth remembering. If only Elena cared. Even attending with two dreamy guys and wearing the best dress holds no real pleasure for her. Elena is merely going through the motions in order to achieve her own twisted goals. So what is Elena dreaming of on prom night? You’ll have to see it to believe it. [Read more…]

Shining the Spotlight on Kavan Smith of ROGUE
Ever hear of the phrase “in too deep”? That is the entire premise of the new drama series ROGUE. When undercover cop Grace Travis (Thandie Newton) gets too close to local mobster Jimmy Lazslo (Marton Csokas) all hell breaks loose. Grace’s son was shot in a seemingly unrelated drive-by, but after Jimmy’s bookkeeper ends up dead by the same bullets used to kill Grace’s son, the kaleidoscope shifts and suddenly Grace and Jimmy have a lot in common in tracking the murderous perpetrator down – particularly as he may have made off with $50 million of Jimmy’s money. Unaware of the swirling danger and how volatile his wife’s undercover identity has suddenly become is Tom Travis, a man grieving the loss of his son and yet trying to keep his family together through the tragedy for the sake of Tom and Grace’s teenage daughter. In an exclusive interview, co-star Kavan Smith talked about the challenges of portraying Tom Travis and the joy of working on such a gritty, intense show. [Read more…]

Inside HEMLOCK GROVE: Scoop from executive producers Eli Roth, Mark Verheiden, Lee Shipman, director Deran Sarafian, and author Brian McGreevy
Creating a horror television show is a tricky feat. It requires balancing the right amount of shock-and-gore along with compelling characters to keep fans clamoring for more – and Netflix’s HEMLOCK GROVE delivers on both. Helmed by horror master Eli Roth and based on the terrifying world created in Brian McGreevly’s book, HEMLOCK GROVE weaves together characters that raise the hair on the back of your neck yet draw you in deeper and deeper into a supernatural mystery story.
When a young teenage girl is found mauled to death, fear and suspicions abound as a gypsy boy (Landon Liboiron) is rumored to be a werewolf. Peter and his mother (Lili Taylor) had recently moved to Hemlock Grove in hopes of settling there after his uncle’s death; but their heritage makes them unwelcome in a community that seeks to keep its deep, dark secrets buried. Reigning over the town is the ultra rich Godfrey family, who prey on the unsuspecting populace. Everyone feels a slight unease with the Godfrey family, who despite their glamor remain aloof; not to mention they own a medical facility that is thought to house untold scientific experiments.
Just who or what is stalking their youth, and how do the Godfreys and the gypsies figure into the lurking sense of unnaturalness surrounding them, those are the mysteries that slowly unfold throughout the 13-episode horror series.
During press interviews at WonderCon in Anaheim, executive producers Eli Roth, Mark Verheiden, Lee Shipman, along with director Deran Sarafian and author Brian McGreevy provided some insight into murder, mystery and intrigue that layer HEMLOCK GROVE. [Read more…]
