Two Heads Are Better Than One! Cherry Jones and BD Wong Discuss Their Pivotal Roles in AWAKE

March 1, 2012 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Just because someone may be imagining a world where their wife or son has not died, does that make the person mentally unfit?  In the new thought-provoking series AWAKE, Cherry Jones and BD Wong play the psychiatrists in each world (one real and one imaginary) that Detective Michael Britten lives.  They are the voice of reason as Det. Britten tries to sustain a simultaneous existence in two very different worlds.  Due to the impact such a revelation could have on his job, they are literally the only people who he can trust and rely upon to figure out what is real or not real – or how to keep both realities alive.  Taking a few minutes to talk with press in a recent conference call, Cherry and BD candidly shared what the characters are doing to help Det. Britten navigate his very complicated psyche. [Read more…]

Summer Scoop:  A few candid insights from writer/producer Jeff Davis and director Russell Mulcahy on MTV’s TEEN WOLF

May 29, 2011 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

In MTV’s new supernatural series TEEN WOLF, the typical coming-of-age story is given a new twist — a teenage boy must not only navigate through high school, he must figure out the challenges of being a werewolf in the midst of the most heightened years of his life.  Writer and executive producer Jeff Davis and director Russell Mulcahy talked about what drew them to the TEEN WOLF series and teased a bit about what to expect as the show debuts.

Jeff Davis (Executive Producer/Writer)

How was the tone for the show established in choosing between campy vs. dark?
Jeff:  The tone was set right off-the-bat from the first meeting with MTV.  It was their idea to do the show.  I had a meeting with MTV . .. . [MTV] said they were attached to TEEN WOLF the series and asked would I be interested in writing it.  So I asked MTV at the meeting, I said, ‘How do you guys see adapting this for a TV series because the original is very much a comedy and, to me, it’s actually a basketball movie.’ . . . . So they said, ‘We want to do it a little different — a little darker, sexier’ and I said, ‘Well, what if we did it kind of like The Lost Boys?’  Which was an ’80’s movie that I still love to this day.  I mean, I love Teen Wolf very much.  But The Lost Boys just stuck in my head ’cause it is scary, it’s sexy, and it’s still funny — really funny, like Corey Feldman, the Frog Brothers. I mean, you always remember them.  So that’s really the paradigm we chose.  It’s The Lost Boys with a little bit of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer thrown in.  . . It’s funny.  We talk about this being a remake or reboot, and after talking with MTV a little while ago, I said, ‘Since it’s MTV, maybe we should call it a remix.’  We’ve taken an old classic and kind of given it a new beat.  How’s that for a sound bite?

90210 cast live blog

6:13PM: True or False. The most anticipated event in the history of television commences in less than two hours!

7:20PM: T-Minus thirty-nine minutes and counting. In case you’re wondering, this TV Addict’s passing the time plowing through one of last season’s best new dramas, ELI STONE on DVD.

7:54PM: With last night’s second season premiere of GOSSIP GIRL debuting to its second best numbers ever [3.4 million viewers] it’s time to place your bets. How many eyeballs will tonight’s premiere of 90210 snag? Did I mention there’s six minutes until the premiere!

8:10PM: LOVED IT! Now for the hard part. I’ve got a mere two minute commercial break to rant and rave. So a few points if I may: Shenae Grimes, adorable and so definitely not in Degrassi Kansas anymore! “What is that girl, like 30” OMFG! Did Gabrielle Carteris just get mocked, awkward. The capitol of Kansas is Topeka? Who knew. And finally, I certainly hope the CW is getting some serious coinage from the producers of SPRING AWAKENING for the most ingenious product placement in the history of Television. SMALLVILLE take notes will you.

The TV Addict Meets Jennie Garth

May 16, 2008 By theTVaddict 1 Comment

jennie garth kelly taylor 90210

As exciting as it was to meet the cast of GOSSIP GIRL and ONE TREE HILL at Tuesday’s CW UpFront Party, the biggest thrill of the night was hands down getting the opportunity to actually talk to my teenage obsession and the actress that for better or worse got this TV Addict hooked on television — Jennie Garth [Kelly Taylor]

Not surprisingly, the original BEVERLY HILLS 90210 star couldn’t have been cooler, revealing that she was incredibly excited to return to the show that made her career.

Needless to say, not wanting to completely freak her out, I refrained from reminiscing about her classic pool scene with Dylan and whether or not there’s a chance she… err I mean Kelly ended up with Dylan or Brandon!
