REIGN “Consummation” Preview: Will the Queen Choose Her Heart or Her Duty?

March 6, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

reign consummation

In the upcoming REIGN episode “The Consummation,” the biggest decision of Mary’s (Adelaide Kane) life is before her: will she marry Bash (Torrance Coombs) in anticipation of him being legitimized as the next heir of France, or will she follow her heart and marry Francis (Toby Regbo)? Yet therein lies the crux of the problem: Mary has realized that her heart now belongs to two men — as she loves both Francis and Bash.

But a queen’s heart means nothing. Her duty is to her country and ensuring French protection of her people to stave off the advances of the English and to lay claim to the English throne, if she can. [Read more…]

ARROW Preview: Slade’s Trap Is Sprung and Oliver Queen’s Family Must Pay The Ultimate Price

March 5, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

arrow stephen amell the promise

On the heels of last week’s shocking surprise, where Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) found Slade Wilson (Manu Bennett) standing in the Queen Mansion living room, this week’s episode “The Promise” reawakens Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) memories of that fateful day after which nothing was ever the same again — the day that Slade found out about Oliver’s choice to save Sara (Caity Lotz) over Shado (Celina Jade) on the island.

So what exactly happened on Ivo’s boat? Did Oliver and Sara rescue the other prisoners? Was the mirraku serum all destroyed? How did Slade find out the truth about Shado’s death? And did they all make it off that boat? That tale is finally told and it does not go exactly as planned, as heroes and villains take on different roles when faced with greater fears and greater motivation. There is also an unexpected visit from a familiar friend that also does not go as expected.

Back at the Queen Mansion, with Moira Queen (Susanna Thompson) and possibly Thea’s (Willa Holland) lives on the line, Oliver must find a way to save them before Slade’s angry wrath is unleashed upon them all. But who can stop Slade whose mind has been warped and festering in a mirraku-infested haze for 5 years? Alone and unable to leave for one second with Slade in the house, Oliver must stand his ground to protect his family — weaponless and without the protection of his anonymous hood. It is a rare day that Oliver finds himself so defenseless and utterly naked before such a threat. Can Slade be reasoned with? Will anything less than total annihilation of the Queens satisfy his blood-lust?

Who amongst Oliver’s team will be the first to realize the danger that Oliver is trapped in? Will it be Diggle, Roy, Sarah or Felicity to the rescue, or will they be oblivious of the threat ’til the dire end? [Read more…]

THOSE WHO KILL Preview: Introducing the A&E Drama Series Starring Chloe Sevigny and James D’Arcy (feat. Video Interview with the Cast)

March 3, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

those who kill poster

Shows about hunting diabolical killers and serial killers is not a new concept, but what makes A&E’s chilling drama THOSE WHO KILL stand out is the fact that its two leads seem close to becoming killers as much the criminals they pursue. THOSE WHO KILL stars Chloe Sevigny and James D’Arcy, who portray a homicide detective and a forensic psychologist respectively, and the real dance of the show is between Detective Catherine Jensen and Dr. Thomas Schaeffer, who seamlessly slip in to the minds of various killers. Such an ability foreshadows that they may pose their own danger to others, as well as each other. Just how far will they go to close a case, catch a killer, or even to get inside a killer’s mind? Rather than be repulsed by the crimes they become involved with, both seem entranced — like they are seeing another piece to a puzzle that only they can see.

Coming from damaged, dark pasts of their own, Catherine and Thomas present a unique crime-fighting pair. They are relentless and uncontrollably drawn to the killers they track.

At last week’s special premiere event for THOSE THAT KILL, stars Chloe Segivny and James D’Arcy along with their co-stars Kerry O’Malley, Bruce Davison, and Ryan O’Nan took a few minutes to talk about their characters: [Read more…]

BATES MOTEL Scoop: Season 2 Returns With Murder, Romance and Threats from All Sides (feat. interviews with Vera Farmiga, Max Thieriot, Michael Vartan, Nestor Carbonell and More!)

March 3, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

bates-motel-season-2-poster

When we last visited BATES MOTEL at the end of Season 1, it ended with the brutal murder of Ms. Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy). Season 2 picks up right afterwards as Norman (Freddie Highmore) and his mother Norma (Vera Farmiga) find out about her death, and their subsequent fears about who may ultimately be responsible. Norma has that uneasy feeling that her son may somehow be involved and yet wants to believe him incapable of that kind of violence – again. It was one thing for Norman to have killed his own father in a fugue state, but what could have compelled Norman to kill one of his favorite teachers? It seems unfathomable.

Fortunately, as the mystery surrounding Ms. Watson’s death unfolds, more than one suspect emerges when it is discovered that Ms. Watson had a private life that may have exposed her to greater danger than one would think for a mere high school teacher.

Then in Dylan’s (Max Thieriot) seemingly unconnected world of the underground marijuana industry in White Pine Bay, there is a power shift afoot that makes things a lot more uncertain and risky for him as well. Two new vying power brokers make a play for control of the weed industry and Dylan seems caught-up in the crosshairs.

As if murder, rampant crime and a rising drug industry were not enough to preoccupy the entire Bates family, a few other surprises arrive on their doorstep. There are new love interests for everyone. In fact, love is in the air.

Season 2 maybe about the heightened danger swirling all around, but it also about the need for human connection and the craving to be a part of a family. While people seem to sense that something is not entirely right with Norma and Norman, they cannot help but be drawn into their world; for there is an innate seductiveness about them that draws them in. For example, Emma and Sheriff Romero know all to well that it is wiser to keep the Bates at arms’ length, but the illusion of normalcy and love that Norma and Norman exude brings them closer. Like leaning in to feel the heat of a flame – it feels warm and inviting, until you get to close and get burned. Even Dylan seems in denial about the oddity of his own family.

So caught up in the Bates’ irresistible lure for Season 2 are newcomers: Caleb Calhoun (Norma’s estranged brother, portrayed by Kenny Johnson), George Heldens (Norma’s new love interest, portrayed by Michael Vartan), Cody Brennan (Norman’s new wild-child friend, portrayed by Paloma Kwiatowski), and Jodi Wilson (a business woman with an agenda, portrayed by Kathleen Robertson).

At last week’s premiere event, the cast took a few minutes to preview what Season 2 holds for their characters: [Read more…]

BATES MOTEL Scoop: Vera Farmiga and EP Kerry Ehrin Preview The Painful Journey of Norma in Season 2

February 28, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

Bates-Motel-Freddie-Highmore-Vera-Farmiga1

The first season of BATES MOTEL introduced viewers to the double-layered world of Norman (Freddie Highmore) and Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga). On the surface it looked normal, but just below the surface was a layer of uncertainty and insanity. The mother-son duo, to the casual eye, were all normal and just fine. But as we got to know them better, they were not quite as normal as they appeared. Something was off. Their perspective warped by their life experiences and perhaps a few genetic proclivities as well. Fighting the non-normal impulses, Norma was the more self-aware of the two; but with each episode viewers fell under the self-delusional spell of Normal and Norman. Seeing the world through their eyes heightened the prevailing sense of fear, paranoia and irrational belief of love when perhaps none was truly there.

A spasm of reality crept in in the Season 1 finale with the murder of Ms. Watson (Keegan Connor Tracy), leaving both Norman and Norma to wonder if Norman was capable of killing again, albeit in a fugue state so that he could not remember it.

In a recent press conference call, star Vera Farmiga and executive producer Kerry Ehrin talked about Norma’s painful journey of self-discovery and self-realization in Season 2 of BATES MOTEL: [Read more…]

REVOLUTION Scoop: Bringing the Sci-Fi Back Into The Apocalyptic AfterMath (feat. video interviews with David Lyons, Billy Burke, Elizabeth Mitchell, JD Pardo, Tracy Spiridakos)

IMG_2988.JPG

When NBC’s REVOLUTION first debuted, it was premised on the idea of turning the power back on. It had been 15 years since the power went out one day without explanation; and by the end of Season 1, they did turn the power back on — just long enough for the world to try to destroy itself and launched every nuclear weapon at its disposal. Unfortunately, turning the power back on was not the wisest thing to have done when nearly two decades of warmongering and warlord tyranny had become the norm. With the push of a button, Randall Flynn (Colm Feore) nearly annihilated the entire East Coast of the United States. So Season 2 of REVOLUTION took us back to the dark ages, or the norm in the world they had grown used to living in without power and electricity. Everything looked bleak since now they had vast geographical areas obliterated by nuclear bombs and an even larger number of their dwindling population eradicated in seconds. [Read more…]

Today’s TV Addict Top 5: Reasons to Check out the New NBC Comedy GROWING UP FISHER

February 25, 2014 By Tiffany Vogt Leave a Comment

growing up fisher cast

Comedy is always much more fun when done with heart. GROWING UP FISHER is a loving look at family where they successfully hid the fact that the father had been blind for years, until the day he got a service dog and moved out. Carefully playing for love and laughter, GROWING UP FISHER handles the father’s blindness and parents’ divorce with delicate aplomb.

During the Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour, the cast and producers of GROWING UP FISHER provided their perspective on their poignant new show. Here are five reasons to check out GROWING UP FISHER:

Based On True Story
Creator and executive producer DJ Nash happily shared that he created the show based on his real life experiences with his own father. He revealed, “It’s based on my childhood. My dad went blind when he was 11 years old and he hid his blindness from pretty much everyone outside the family for a long time. Then when my parents were getting divorced, he got a guide dog so he could be the dad he wanted to be.”

Jason Bateman Is the Narrator
It always helps to capture the imagination of viewers with a voice that they recognize and smile with recognition each time they hear it. Beloved for all his film and television work, especially in comedy, Jason Bateman is a natural fit as narrator.

Seeing Divorce As A Positive
Society likes to condemn divorce as the evil tearing families apart, but in GROWING UP FISHER, they recognize and celebrate that for some families, divorce brings them closer together. It allows parents to live separately and still appreciate each other in raising a family. Creator/executive producer DJ Nash explained, “This couple was in a bad place, and now that they are getting divorced, they realize that they can exist on a better level. . . What is true of these parents is that they never let the fact that they’re getting divorced keep them from being amazing parents.”

Stars J.K. Simmons and Jenna Elfman
Bringing their A-game, it is a pleasure watching both J.K. Simmons and Jenna Elfman bring characters, as amicably divorcing parents, to life. Life is always more fun when seen through a lens of rose-colored glasses, and their characters seem to be perpetually looking for the bright side of life and embracing all the charm and joy life has to offer. That positive attitude as portrayed by two experienced comedians is pure gold. As Jenna Elfman shared, “I love that she has these two things [divorce and law school] happening at the same time . . . but genuinely and devotedly loves her children.”

Adorable Guide Dog
More shows would benefit from using pets more in their comedy. If the recent Puppy Bowl and Kitten Bowl are any indication, people love watching pets on television. In this case, GROWING UP FISHER created a role just for a dog. With J.K. Simmons’ character blind, the need for a guide dog really expands the appeal and comedy in the series. People are going to love Elvis (isn’t that the greatest name for a dog?!). For those wondering, Elvis is not a real guide-dog, as the producers did not want to take away a trained dog from a person who really needs one. So Elvis is just on the show to entertain and what an entertainer he is!

GROWING UP FISHER premieres right after the closing ceremony of the Olympics on Sunday, February 23rd, and then airs in its regular timeslot on Tuesday, February 25th at 9:30 p.m. on NBC.

dallas cast

All the things fans love are coming back with a vengeance in Season 3 of DALLAS. Those wily Ewings and their many nemeses are back with blood feuds, scandalous sex, and big money deals. The world of DALLAS has never shied away from going big. It’s go big or go home. That’s their style and they feel perfectly at home amongst the vast prairies and oil fields of Texas, as well as the high-powered boardrooms and lascivious bedrooms.
